Hungover & Rude Bookstore Clerk ASMR Roleplay
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 24 янв 2025
- In this bookstore assistant roleplay, you visit a local shop to find a book to help you sleep. However, the clerk working there is a little… under the weather. As such, perhaps he’s not as helpful as he usually is - but maybe he’ll warm up to you? There are some page turning sounds, whispered hungover ramblings, and a little bit of tapping. Plus, bonus annoyingly loud seagull and people bashing about next door. Enjoy!

🎙 What is ASMR? 🎧
ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) is synaesthesia of the soul. It’s a relaxing feeling, it’s a tingling down the spine, or it’s simply a sleep aid. Whether it’s being ‘held’ by someone you have confidence in, or ‘looked after’ by someone with authority, or just feeling ‘safe’ with someone you trust, it uses audio-visual triggers to enable you to let go of your worries and stresses - even just for a bit.
📽 What is FPC? 🎞
FPC (first person cinema) takes all the relaxing elements of ASMR but has much more of a focus on immersion and the suspension of disbelief. It’s kinda like being the main character in your own short movie, with popular figures you know and love, or entirely created worlds - just for you. There won’t be any visible mics or traditional triggers in these videos, and they will seem more unintentional than the usual ASMR videos - but they are unique and relaxing experiences designed to transport you to different places, worlds, and times.
Disclaimer: This video is intended for relaxation. Any views, opinions, or advice expressed is purely for the purpose of entertainment, and to induce tingles through ASMR. These videos are not a substitute for traditional medicine, therapy, or any other professional medium, and should not be treated as such! Take all the advice with a pinch of salt, and certainly don’t take it to heart. That being said, please enjoy them, benefit from them, and hopefully get those warm, tingly feelings. Oh, and it’s not for kids.
Working amongst books in silence and don't need to deal with people with too much care- this is my DREAM JOB
You can just go for it. Its not like it require degree or excessive experience.
I used to face books at a library (pull them to the edge of the shelf so they look pretty) and reorganize the shelves. Hours spent with books and no other obligations. Brilliant.
gives me major "Black books" vibes, literally just a drunk , rude book shop owner, its glorious
"Have you got the little book of calm?!!"
"Oh, do you mean this one? " *holds up bumper book of screaming*
was about to say myself, and i only read the title! ;))
@@bectoons fricking loved the entire series
The 3:05 exaggerated, long drawn out, pointed stare and " Shhhhhhhhut..up." bit.
Love it! These type of cranky, quietly rabid people with the gift for comic, harmless sarcasm, give me the shakes. As in, my shoulders shaking while barely containing my silent giggles. As long as I am just observing them honing in on someonelse.
Omg the "hair of the dog" bit was so good. And the seagull was doing a spot-on cat impression, I thought.
I thought it was a cat as well. And the "dog", I don't think I'd want to meet it in a dark alley 😅.
@@riambratelarn1718 I’m not unconvinced it was one of Jim’s cats, yelling for pets
@@DeathnoteBB or a squirrel doing a cat doing a seagull impression. Seriously the squirrels where I live, sound just like cats.
Since it's a bookshop roleplay, thought I might share.
I found neat little second d hand bookshop in my town the other day that I'd somehow never noticed before, and I scored a copy of Treasure Island from 1947, apparently a first Australian edition. How rad?
DID HE BOOKMARK HIS BOOK BY STAMPING IT????
what a power move
BDE. BBE? (big book energy)
Second time watching, and I love the book/paper sounds, the biting humor, and the whispered readings [and it ain't just the whiskey talking]. Thanks so much for this!
been listening to this one a lot lately. i very much appreciate the quiet atmosphere of it all, and as i've been very overstimulated lately, have had a lot of meltdowns due to stress between college and being a teacher. it's a nice and quiet atmosphere and i appreciate how the book clerk warms up to us in the end. wouldn't mind seeing this character return later.
edit: i also like at the end how his voice gets softer as if we're dozing off at his desk
"You might as well be wearing spectacles!"
*Pushes up my glasses in confusion*
Yep! 🤓
“Look at the giiiiirth of this bad boy.”

One of the things I missed most during 2020 was visiting dusty old bookshops. My favorite has friendly cats-in-residence as well. This was a lovely visit, and I think the clerk's spirits were improved a bit as well. Welcome addition to the ongoing troupe of gruff-turned-amiable characters.
This was giving me the library clerk from the Neverending story vibes 😍
I like big books and I cannot lie
You other readers can't deny
When a book walks in with a debossed face
And a bookmark in its place you get
SPRUNG
OMG! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'd forgotten about that song!
@@riambratelarn1718 It was stuck in my head this morning, apropos of nothing 😆
@@kristinLastName it suits very well here. 😁
Honestly, I would burst out In tears With the first Interaction
Yes, it's very important how the book sounds! People who don't read just don't get it - but you do :)
I really enjoy it whenever there gets something read to us.
I chuckled quite a bit at the part with the Seagull.😆
Fully agreed, Bokka. His voice is our personal brand of Valium. 🥰🥰🥰
Had my first hangover recently and it was terrible, I still had to wake up early and go to work so I understand how this clerk feels
You would absolutely slay it at Agent Smith in the interrogation scene in the first Matrix. Hope you try it sometime down the line, cheers!
I subscribed just recently and this is my first new video! So exciting 😍 love it already!
Welcome to the family, but on another level, where have you been all this time? lol (no offence).
Yes, welcome to our family! You're in for a real treat with every video!! Happy viewing!!
“Cuba means…Cuba, and libre means book.” That’s some A+ Spanish right there! 🤣 For real, though, I’ve watched this like five times already and loved every second of it. Leo is my new favorite!
I headcanon this guy is related to Bernard from Black Books. before I even hit play I *knew* I'd enjoy this!
Brilliant! I love Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone's game book too!! They created absolutely fantastic books.
This video really channels a distinct James Lee energy throughout
Просто лучший, повезло же наткнуться на этот канал. Спасибо!
I always love that Jim's videos are so well put together and the production quality is absolutely mesmerising! 😊❤ Great job, as always, Jim!!
Wonderful video! I'm loving the atmosphere, the book sounds and the sarcasm, hope to see this character again!
By the way, I find your way of smoking oddly charming, it keep distracting me from listening what you were saying! 🤣
the clerk: "might as well be a detective."
me, in bed in the dark when I should be sleeping: "more like a fuckin prick, mate. just show me the books."
clerk: "never wake up! book wouldn't be so good then, huh? bad book... my recommendation for you-"
me, still arguing with a fictional character: "no no, listen, my recommendation for YOU is some therapy, you twit, you look like a washed out grad student that gave up on your major. take some Tylenol and drink some water, fookin ay..."
the point is you did a good job with this one and I kept watching because I was invested in this depressive arse.
I heard the seagull and thought it was my cat outside wanting to get into my room and I pulled out my headphones and thought I was tripping... also as soon as you started reading Shakespeare I started to nod off...
the bernard black is strong in this one
happy to see this comment here already, first thought that came to me too 😄
@@JuneW99 yeah, it's definitely giving black books lmao
My brain went to that conclusion immediately all he needs is a Wine Lolli
i wish i could visit this store, it's so quaint and comfortably dim 😌
Definitely got “Black books” vibe
Great as always!
Although still hoping for Crown Prince Part 2 👀
What a coincidence, I was watching some Black Books yesterday!
Even the seagulls clamor to be in Jim's videos every chance they can! They're just winging it too 🤭
Puns.... everywhere I look, PUNS! (Love it!)
@@riambratelarn1718 I have been known to pelt and pummel people with fresh and/ or stale puns😁. Did it frequently when I first subbed to Jim's channel two years ago....ah! Memories!!
@@cathyskywalker77 pelt and pummel away! I always enjoy people with a good sense of humor. Most don't get my humor and usually move as far away as possible, or call the police 😅
@@riambratelarn1718 oh jeez!! 🤣 It runs in my family! I had read somewhere that when a person is cremated there's enough carbon for 200 pencils and I know my late brother would have found that quite amusing. So maybe I should have turned him into a bunch of pencils!
"Do you have a pencil I could use?" Some unsuspecting person inquires.
"Why yes, I do! Here, meet my brother Harry! Or part of him," I reply with a chuckle.
@@riambratelarn1718 We would get along very well!!!! That's why I absolutely LOVE this channel. Actually, Jim's is the only ASMR channel that I sub to.
I feel this guy, I really do. Been there, done that! Lol. Also, fricken hysterical! Love this! I’d love to see more of this guy! ❤
I always love to see a new Jim video. And I got the pun, very clever.
I also LOVE the fact that we got the Milton Book in the end, Milton being my favourite poet. (And Shakespeare of course). It is so weird because I was talking about Milton just yesterday! Coincidence? Or can Jim read my mind... like a book!?!?
He's so dramatic I love it 😂😂😂
Love hearing you read Shakespeare,
Don’t mind any crankiness either, ha!!
In the end you asked me back and it could be the start of a beautiful friendship😎❤️📚
Jim: "You people..."
Me: "RACISM-"
Jim: "No- no, not like that-"
bookish, spicy megane in a comfy cardigan???? im all in sir
When you go to the bookstore to buy a good book, and all you want to do is flirt with the handsome clerk. 😍
Ha Ha reminds me of Black Books. Incredible 😉
today's chapter of moon knight destroyed my stability
thanks for giving us a video today :')
Black Books asmr? o.O little vid of calm, indeed :)
just got the scene in my head where Bernard pays the customer £40 to not give him his books :)))
I really liked your video it gave me a lot to reflect on the subject I was happy to see you and showing you what you know and have saved.🤪
Another great video! And thanks for the smoke, Jimbo... I appreciate the company.
Love everything you make. Constantly engaging. Keep making, please. :)
"Karl Marx: Das Kapital"
me: starts looking over at my bookshelf, only to see the dusty spine of my copy of the capital, that I have been avoiding for about 2 years
I’ll take that Shakespeare off your hands too thanks 👍🏻 ahhh chuck in one of those ‘choose your own adventure’ ones too.
Loved this! These types of bookstores are a dream. Though I was (just quietly) going mad at the thought of those damn lit cigarettes so close to those beautiful hundred year old hard covers 😱 (yeah, I’m one of THOSE book people. Shush! Don’t judge me)
Такая прекрасная атмосфера и шикарная актерская игра❤
Обожаю этот канал
I'd be really *really* down for a Batman Begins style Jonathan Crane asmr video. A little fear toxin-induced craziness anyone?
Such a recent video , this will surely be amazing!
The interaction I think I'll have after daring to look in the direction of a bookstore:
Jim you are a true artist and thespian
Why, YES, I am looking for a copy of Robot Commando to complete my collection of Fighting Fantasy books!! It's funny, when I was a kid I devoured the "Choose Your Own Adventure" series, and I think there may be a US-UK divide in terms of what series were distributed where? As well as possibly younger folks not having them around? I will have to ask Millennial friends and teens to find out if they are familiar with either series.
I had a huge collection of Choose Your Own Adventure books when I was younger. Sadly, my ex got custody of those as well as my entire set of Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms novels.
@@riambratelarn1718 Booo. 🙁 At least new copies of those should not be too hard to obtain. And today I discovered they are still publishing the CYOA books!
Dare I say you're giving off Crowley vibes. After season 2, episode 6 of Good Omens, Crowley is sleazing around the bookshop back room, smoking and drinking, under the guise of helping Muriel mind the shop. But really Crowley is getting revenge and selling Aziraphale's precious books. Sequel please!
PS In grad school for my English degree, our Milton seminar professor's PHD dissertation was on the humor in Paradise Lost. She had a wry, subtle sense of humor and failed to instill her love of early modern English puns in her students.
Omg so wonderful work jim🥰
Reading about "muh surplus labour value" made me jolt.
JIM NOT LIKE THIS NO DAMN IT
There's a kid currently making a small fortune off RUclips short vids where tries to domesticate and thus regularly feeds a seagull. There's even merch. Whenever he pops up I think of this channel and how potentially rage inducing it might be to someone plagued by the song of his brothers.
Do you remember the channel's name?
@@kristinLastName 'Feeding Steven' - I follow because it's the sort of dumb shit I'd do and yet this kid is making money for a bit of tuna clean up.
@@jenivieve8273 Nice, I'll check it out.
Feeding Steven is the best!
@@onefordespair what I've learnt from Feeding Steven is that I can potentially make cash money from documenting my blossoming friendship with a woodlouse (the only thing that will approach me). Watch me one-up this guy.
15:16 - don't listen to this with your eyes closed O.o
🙉🙉🙉
Greatly appreciated💜😻
I've been wanting to say this and idk if anyone else has said it or he said something. Is the die society series going to continue?! Been on the lookout for any new vids but nothing yet. No pressure or rush, I'm just wondering. If he decided to not continue that's a shame but completely up to him. It is/was such an awesome series.
hello! one of Jim's mods here- he's taking a break from it at the moment but there are plans for it to be finished! not sure when there will be another instalment, but it is in the works x
At least you read and say thank you
I didn’t know Jim was capable of being rude
nearly spat out my coffee at praying to the porcelain god. Wee Lamb, get well soon hahaha
This feels like an encounter in Disco Elysium (which would be fantastic for a video by the way!). I would spend many hours discussing Kapital with this clerk, should he permit me to ramble.
He has made a Disco Elysium video!
I was only asking if you had any Mills and Boon! 😮😂
"So, customer.. you looking for a BOOK?"
me: "yes, a little book of calm" :)
People confuse snide with rude. The English are past masters in the high art of Snide. As a Welshman, with your lovely voice, you are now Bitingual.🥀Elizabeth
I *do* want the Ian livingston and Steve Jackson books tho
Anybody ever fall asleep with your finger in the book???😄
Yep, and then my finger fell asleep 😅

Awww, you're not grumpy, you're just hungover, gentle soul. I've never felt that feeling before, so I'll try to sympathise and browse the books in your bibliopolium in silence, and leave you be. Should I wake you if you start snoring? No? Ok, no problem. I'll just wish you pax et amor in aeternum, and will shut the door behind me. 😁😁😁
Listen... SHHHHHHHHHHHHut up!
"I need a ´Soldier of Fortune´ issue of July 89, please. And could you tell me the fastest way from here to the ´Congo bar´ ? "
I feel like this clerk would really hate the "junior classics for young readers" series, like literally despise it
Ok, so if I can't have the lights up how about an electric torch?🔦📖
😍 yay
Mmmh quite grumpy at first huh? It doesn't matter because I already knew that in the end you would warm up to me 😄😄😄 and anyway I don't want to keep the volume of my voice low dear "clerk" Jim oh absolutely not in fact I want to scream out loud "YOU ARE GREAT, I LOVE YOUR WORK, GREAT VIDEO"
Even if the seagulls continue to bother you... congrats. well done Jim as usual 💗💗💗
Hm. I am very comfortable here.
FINALLY! I have time to actually comment! Leo, Leo, Leo, (I call you Leo, right?) hair of the dog? Hot tea, honey, lemon, and a goodly dollop of brandy. Two of those and you will forget your hangover 😉. I actually am interested in the CYOA books, all you have. I need to rebuild my collection since the ex took custody of my original set 😢.
As for Das Kapital, I read that in 1981, not required reading, I was just interested. Shakespeare was introduced to me at the age of 8 by my grandmother. The first work that I read being Twelfth Night. Is it bad that you only had to read a few words for me to know exactly which work you were reading? Milton came into my sights around the age of 13. Now if you want to offer me a book to help me sleep, car repair might do the trick 😄
I think the shhhhhhhhut up is my new favorite phrase. And as for the seagull, maybe give Dan a call? 😉 All in all, I loved this. I don't mind cranky people so Leo is perfectly fine.
I apologize if my comment seems fragmented and all over the place, but life right now is utter chaos (not complaining mind you. I for chaos😁😁) so I am a bit fragmented and all over the place 😅 Thank you, Jim for sharing this with us and, as always, with permission, lots of hugs 🤗🤗🤗
Is this the bookshop owner from The Neverending Story in his younger years?
You can tell which literature is meant to be read aloud and which is not. Ugh Marx gives me grad school flashbacks
My reading of Marx was self-inflicted. What can I say, I guess I fall into the "literary masochistic" group after all. 😁
@@riambratelarn1718 Lol, just why? 😆 I think my worst act of literary masochism might have been reading the whole Twilight series for scholarly purposes 🙄…apologies if you (or you, Reader) are a Twihard.
@@kristinLastName Ok I apologize in advance to any who love the books, movies, etc. The twilight series does NOT exist in MY reality. Sorry, the only way a vampire will sparkle around me, is if they have been rolling in the glitter on my bed. 😆
@@riambratelarn1718 Well, good, you pass 😎 I still can’t get over Michael Sheen starring in two of the movies.

If our society has deteriorated to the extent that the great gift of literature, upon which an abundance of authors have labored for years to complete, is merely “appreciated” for soporific purposes, and the physical sound of the pages turning, then I vacillate between pitying it and desperately wanting to decimate it.
P. S.: Dear Jim 5 ASMR,
You are capable of so much better than this!
