What is ASMR? #ASMR Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR), sometimes auto sensory meridian response is a tingling sensation that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. It is often driven by soft-spoken scripts, audio triggers and whispering. ASMR is also a major genre in itself where ASMRtists use triggers, storytelling and world-building asmr roleplays to help people experience relaxation and tingles! Disclaimer - These videos are for relaxation purposes. Any commentary is purely for the purpose of entertainment and to give you ASMR tingles! "active" phrenology to "change the bumps" feels very much like a threat. In any other situation, changing the shape of your head is most certainly something to avoid 😂
I can't not think of the Terry Pratchett character who was a "retrophrenologist" lol
One minor detail that I appreciate is the fact that you look away while you're assessing the "bumps" on the head. I used to work as a massage therapist, so I know that looking away while I assess the tissues with my hands really helps me zero in on trouble spots. I'm not sure if that was a conscious choice you made, or something you just did instinctively, but I found it strangely validating. :)

I’ve been going down a bit of a rabbit hole lately about Victorian occultism and phrenology, and just happened to have this show up on my recommendations today. Absolutely flawless timing.

This has some of my favorite things in it - but my favorite part was the gag about "pointing" to the palmistry chart by just randomly smacking it.

And despite all of this new-fangled, science-based, medical mumbo jumbo, I really feel like we didn’t give them enough of a chance!! 😂 This Doctor Cosmos is a fantastic character. As noted by others, I enjoy how the doctor gradually gives up on pointing to specific points of the hand, and just gestures at the entire diagram. Especially for the bracelets.

So i am brave enough to try alternative medicine, anxious enough to be interested, gullible enough to believe in it and have the financial means to do so. Oh, and i won't see you running away with the money if you are far enough. No, but my doctor is so elegant and entertaining and knows so many famous people, i enjoy being low-key conned. For such a marvellous production, who wouldn't volunteer?

Ah yes, Dr Leonard Cosmos. A fellow of the Medical and Chirurgical Society I believe. Good to see him again. I was particularly impressed with his palmology knowledge, notably his pointing out of the life line, something that has often been left unclear among other, perhaps less renowned palmologists. I wonder whether we'll hear from his Tudorian ancestor again.

As an American I always chuckle when ppl not from here try to do an American accent bc they always do a southern drawl for some reason. That's ok though bc I love your natural accent and voice. It's so calming and soothing!🥰

I really don't know what it is about quackery and pseudo-science, but it relaxes the heck out of me.
For those who don't know, phrenology was a made-up field by old white racist men to prove the "superiority" of their race over others. There is nothing scientific about it (nor chiropractics, which was made up by someone with no degree, education, or training in medicine or any scientific field, and who was an anti-vaxxer even back in the day!).
All that aside, I find it remarkably soothing in an ASMR format! And I absolutely love Dr. Cosmos. ♥
