I don’t think you can reuse pieces used during finishing touches. You were right about not getting the bonus pieces but you also leave those pieces in the puzzles, that way they can’t be used again to complete other puzzles.

I got the base game and want to pre-order finesse but I'm worried the finesse expansion will be missing the instructions for the new pieces as they aren't in the base manual...

I think I only had a prototype but it was a separate thing that was made after the base game so I'd imagine Finesse would have its own manual

Its listed as a 1-4 player expansion on BGG. You can officially play it solo.
