I think he wanted to sing without rasp on tripod to sound different. I never found any other explanation because he never lost his false chord voice. He sang higher and smooth with dead pan effects on tripod. Basically the opposet of facelift vocals.
Damn. I would have loved to be his friend. Just to be in the same room. What an amazing voice. A great set of lungs. Man.... I just cant get enough of his voice. Such a strong voice..... Such emotion. POWER HOUSE. DAMN. THEY WOULDNT HAVE SOLD SHIT WITHOUT THAT VOICE. ITS THE TRUTH. JERRY HAS A GOOD VOICE.... NOT THAT POWERFUL... LETS JUST CUT THE CRAP. LAYNES VOICE IS THE BEST IN MUSIC HISTORY. THAT MAN SCREAMED EFFORTLESSLY.... NO STRAINING... NO CRACKING. WISH I COULD HAVE SEEN THEM.
Same here brother! An IF Layne's voice was cracking or breaking up in some shows, it's cause he sang so fuckin hard and wouldn't let up even if his shit was hurting!
Exactly the same man. 03 child here as well. It’s unfortunate how he left us, but I’ll be damned if he didn’t leave us with some of the most amazing music from the 90s
@@stratsteveo106 C'mon you're not old you're like what 31 at most 32, and it's crazy to think Layne died around your age it just shows how short his life really was.
Their self titled live setlist had few performances with makes it rare as fuck, it was their ultimate live set, Facelift, Dirt, AiC in one live performance wow, plus goosebumps from ''this is called Sludge Factory''
not to mention that layne was in form despite his addictions and him losing teeth and timbre due to heroin. some of his best singing form was in here imo
I was so young when alice took off but if i knew what i know now about addiction i would of tried to help layne. I. Am spiritually drawn towards layne he moves me
he had actually played this song a little over 2 months prior to this at the mtv unplugged session but yeah as a recovering heroin addict my memory is shot
metallica and alice in chains were cool by this point. they played eachothers riffs on stage. they take all this in sarcastically. metallica were front seats at the alice in chains unplugged show. 'where the wild things are' and 'human' by metallica have a really heavy alice in chains feel to them..
Half-dead, hungover and high. Still blew kiss out of the water. 🔥🔥🔥
Layne, the best singer ever.
between him and chris cornell
kurt cobain was a much better song writer. layne had the vocals
kieran mitchelle meh
@@kieranmitchelle7948 cobains lyrics sound like they were penciled in last minute or something
@@grayebarb6022 A lot of them were, but he was still an amazing songwriter
i was there that night. it changed my perspective on music. i went from a rabid kiss fan to a AIC junkhead
Was there a lot of aic fans there
I was there & we only went to see Alice in Chains, it was great, the audio doesn’t do it justice
Tell us more about the experience please :)
KISS wS nothing compared
The growl in the beggining is epic, so much power.
R.I.P Layne.
LAYNE STALEY ❤ 5:09
Wish it was a studio version with the intensity of lives. Such a underrated song.
Undersrated band all together ❤️ ♥️ 💕 💓

@@MRSludgedudehe was a huge industrial fan at the time, so he could've been experimenting with different styles similar to it

Yeah but if you ran in his circles you'd likely be dead by now.
Underrated
That would been awesome be his friend! I love be able play music with him have sings some songs now.
The greatest part about being 55 is I seen them live.
I was born in '03 so I never got to seen Layne live, but I'm glad his music will never die so future generations can hear his voice.

Omg I was 14 when you were born. Now I feel old
I remember that mtv news report about Layne. Believe it or not mtv was my life back in the day
@@stratsteveo106 C'mon you're not old you're like what 31 at most 32, and it's crazy to think Layne died around your age it just shows how short his life really was.
Being only a year younger than Layne, this makes me happy that kids from 2000 onward know and love AiC, and appreciate Layne's voice.❤️
Sludge Factory must be the song Layne forgot the lyrics the most times
Shame because these are some of his best lyrics.

GENIUS. 🤣
Call me up, congratulations aint the real why.
You have always...me.... *Fuck*
Day 9!
you got that part in reverse lol
Heavy as hell
That first growl! Dude is a beast
So sad he died, He had a great powerful voice.
Who cares he forgot some lyrics, that joke about Metallica😂 the chorus's.. hes there, still Killin it
Its his song, he can do whatever he wants with it. Plus the point is to keep going and don't stop!
Jerry's guitar couldn't sound heavier!
Sounds like bass to me ?

I love how he says this is called "Sludge factory" And the quirky insult on Metallica is priceless😄

I feel like laynelegitimately did not know this song as well he always messed this one up haha
What a huge fucking sound
I love you Layne

So good
Mascarica!!!! :D
I always thought he said cartoon size 🤦🏼♀️🤣
The last honest band
Absolutely true
Great quality!
He forgot again
He forgot alot of the lyrics back in 96' probably cause of his addiction and/or that they hadn't played in two and a half years.
DMVinylz thats unfortunately what heroin does to a person
he had actually played this song a little over 2 months prior to this at the mtv unplugged session but yeah as a recovering heroin addict my memory is shot
at the Unplugged show he had the lyrics on paper right in front of him and still got it wrong, multiple times. Fuckin H
Lol - in fairness, they probably only performed this song maybe half a dozen times live.
whyd he call Metalica, Mascerica?
they wore makeup
David Larson i like Metallica.
Kojimapromeatspin It's 1996, that means Load = Makeup and Haircuts for Metallica.
they mocked layne on stage.

He looks pretty healthy here
He definitely wasn’t bro. He was like 110 pounds during his last shows
1:50 and 3:27
Metallica got so big despite doing so much stupid ass shit..
I only really like that one song and the remake from Thin Lizzy!
