  • I bought this iPhone 8 plus to run the dji drone app and found that it had so much more to offer with its high quality camera for photos and 4k videos. It's a cheap way to get into 4k video making. Very useful for new RUclipsrs.
I use it as a controller for my dji mini se drone and it's a very capable iphone. It's one of the best iphone versions ever. Second hand they are very affordable. I don't have a sim in it because I don't want to be distracted by notifications or phone calls while I'm flying my dji mini se drone.
    Drone specifics
The dji fly app needs a phone with a 64 bit computer chip and a 64 bit operating system to fly the DJI mini se drone and the iPhone 8 plus works fine with it.
The number of smartphones that can run the DJI fly app is very limited.
I wonder how many people have bought a dji drone and can't fly it because they have the wrong phone?
Finding this iPhone 8 plus solved the problem and it was a cheap quick fix. Not the best solution but at least I'm not sitting with an expensive drone that won't work! See video below

Should you buy the latest Apple iPhone or go with this very capable and powerful iPhone 8 Plus? The main question is price.
Costing a fraction of a new iPhone the iPhone 8 Plus has more than enough power for even the dji fly app. Running a drone is incredibly dependent on a reliable signal and the fly app uses a lot of processing power.
There is always going to be a newer and faster iPhone coming along any time soon but what I needed was something that's not going to break the bank and will give smooth 4K video for next to no money?
iPhone 8 Plus on Amazon helps support the channel. The price you pay will not change.
I've seen them for as little as $267 which is amazing for a fully refurbished, unlocked and guaranteed iPhone 8 Plus.

I’ve owned them all, but I always go back to the 8+. I watched this video and typing this comment on my trusty 8+. You can’t beat the last large screen iPhone with Touch ID! Congrats on your first iPhone…you chose the right one! What a steal!!

Hi 8bitDNA, and thanks for your comment.
You are right about the iPhone 8 plus being the best.
It marked a turning point for Apple design as we can see in the latest iPhone SE.
It has exactly the same chassis and elements as the 8+ just with the latest bionic chip.
I'm late to adopt Apple but my kids are all apple fans. Lol
It's a fantastic phone and even better at that price. 🤯😂👍

Thank you for your comment Robert. Yep I'm impressed with this iPhone 8+. It's literally my first apple product. I only bought it to fly the drone. Now I'm using it to film almost every time I do anything 🤯🎶🎸😂👍🏼

I have just bought the 8 plus today for use with my DJI Mavic pro 2 and Mini 2....steep learning curve as I have always used Android phones, they got to be a PİTA with always charging when connected to the controller, always had to go into settings and swap charging to file transfer....see how iphone works once I get some decent flying weather ..

Hi David, I've found the iPhone 8 great for flying my DJI mini with very little drain on the phone's battery.
I've got the three battery combo from dji and I've used all three on the same day and still had 80% phone battery.
I know that the phone takes a charge from the controller but it isn't significant. I still had 4 bars on the controller after flying.
Looking forward to seeing some better weather soon lol 😂👍🏼

Yep it's a bit of a nightmare as dji fly app only works on a very few phones. It works great with the iPhone 8 plus.
I don't know if I would have bought the drone if I knew the hassle it would be?
I didn't expect to have to get a specific phone to fly this drone but that's what happened.
Pain in the neck and the pocket but at least now I'm getting good aerial footage with the mini se. I posted a video on a place called Rothbury if you want to see how the drone footage looks.
      2.7k is plenty good enough.
