    I can attest that this restaurant is straight fire! Amazing food, great drinks. And the owners are some of the nicest and community oriented people in San Diego!

    I went here after my wife and I got married and they customized the menu for us with a sweet congratulatory message. Such a heartfelt touch not to mention how good the food was. They didn't even show in the video how many other amazing options they have here!

      Using the same knife to open boxes and cut ducks is beyond reckless. Opening a box on your prep table with the same gloves you use to handle raw duck is downright dangerous. But hey, I guess it's fine because they're a overpriced “fancy restaurant."

    I've been lucky to go there 2 times while i was in san diego, they are on the Michelin Guide as well for must visits.

    Food looks amazing. For those saying it's French first, that fish is not French. Duck is eaten a lot in Vietnam, unlike in the US. Yes, there are elements of French and a bit of Chinese, but it's definitely Viet the way it's served and even in it's presentation of the noodles (French don't do noodles), fresh herbs (this is extremely Viet as herbs are king of the cuisine there), veggies, dips, etc.

      @@organizedchaos4559 Pretty sure you didn't grow up Viet. I did. We ate roast duck and boiled duck growing up. There's also various duck noodle soup dishes. None of those were French.

    That fried fish with ginger fish sauce need some shredded green mango to beat the greasiness, that’s how we Vietnamese eat fried fishes with ginger fish sauce

      I'm Viet. Generally a traditionalist when it comes to Viet restaurants. But I would drive down from LA, just to check it out. I make fusion stuff at home, out of necessity or sheer laziness, so it would be fun to see how I could push my home cooking in a new direction.

    As a local this place is so overrated. 78 dollars for the dry aged duck and 54 dollars for the whole fried fish. A whole rockfish costs 5 dollars at the docks btw and less than 20 at local Mexican restaurants. Oh also they add a 20% service charge on your check and then expect you to tip afterwards.

      You’re probably not their target clientele I’m not either, it’s for people who are not familiar with Vietnamese home cooked flavor, I would bet money none of their customers are Vietnamese. Whole fried fish with fish sauce that’s a weeknight meal at home for Vietnamese .

      Ive lived in little Saigon my whole life,going to Vietnamese friends houses as a kid eating the food their parents cooked, so it was pretty much second nature

    Food looks good, people seem nice and I'd give it a try if I was in the area.... but...
    As someone born in Vietnam, visits and travels back to Vietnam almost yearly and also on the flip side fishes rock fish (when in season) this restaurant is as Vietnamese as Olive garden. It is Californian, which is fine but it is so far from Vietnamese it's like saying spaghetti with meatballs and tomato sauce is chinese because noodles were made in China.
    Vegan fish sauce?????

    In Vietnam duck is a very popular ingredient? I’m not sure if that’s accurate. My girl is Vietnamese. Her mom drops off home cooked viet food to our apartment every weekend and I’ve never once had duck. It’s a lot of pork, shrimp, noodles, soup, pho, bun thit nong, spring rolls, etc.
    And also I noticed they use the red boat brand fish sauce. That’s a huge no no apparently in a Vietnamese household. Red boat brand fish sauce to a viet is like pineapple on pizza to an Italian apparently lol

      Yes, duck is popular in Vietnam. Not so much so in the US because it's harder and more expensive to come by these days. But it is eaten roasted, boiled, in noodle dishes, etc.
