Awesome! Just what I needed today, working on table topper with hexagon centers. Your instructions were so clear and easy to understand! Now on to more hexes! Plus a hexagon star quilt in my future! Thanks for this video!
This pattern is perfect for LARGE SCALE fabrics, that you don't want to cut up too small as you would lose the print! I have some Lei fabrics from Hawaii, that would be perfect to use with this pattern! thanks so much!
Okay, this one's a winner for me! I love the fact that you cut the lighter/contrast fabric bigger than the template so it makes it easier to square up the blocks before joining them. AND I love that you don't have to match seams between the rows. It is a great hexagon pattern for showing off the fabric one's very best prints and colors because the hexagon isn't joined in the middle like many patterns call for. Additionally, I don't have to go crazy lining them up with opposing halves. And as always, you show us the hints like giving us the measurements from the flat to flat edges (6 and 1/2 inches) and from point to point (7 and 1/2 inches) and how to easily cut the corner pieces of the contrast fabric; etc. Nice! I got a kick how at the beginning when you showed the folded fabrics - running your hand across them and visually "caressing" them - ha! Yes, it made me want to touch them too; I'll bet we're not the only ones who admire our quality quilting fabric in this way. Many years ago I worked at a fabric shop part-time while going to college part-time. For a number of years after that (into the 1970's) when talking to people, I'd sometimes touch their arm to make a point (I'm pretty demonstrative) and then I'd be distracted trying to guess what the fabric content of their clothing was. I'd forget where I was in the conversation .. and then have to ask them, "Where was I?" It was only when I came across other people who sewed that I'd confess my secret thoughts. :-) Is this abnormal behavior? Probably. ;-) But I and the other gals in the store would "challenge" each other when new bolts came in and the customer flow was sluggish and really enjoyed the game.
I haven't done much with hexagons because I always worried how to piece them together; not anymore, thanks Laura. You have such a clear and concise way of explaining cutting instructions, sewing instructions, etc. When you post a video I do a little happy dance.
I found the pattern before your video. Thank goodness I found this before cutting. You have saved me a ton of time. Thank you for the wonderful tutorial.
What a great and thorough tutorial. Beautiful fabric. Thank you for the free pattern and, your tutorial. I could see doing this in a number of patriotic fabrics.
I love your explanation of how to quickly cut out all the hexagons and the triangle corners. So simple once someone else figures it out! Thanks for saving us all the headache. :)
You always have the best tips for construction! I probably wouldn't even consider making this quilt (not enough patience), but your insight is a game changer. Thank you for the video 😊👍💕
This Is hands down the best tutorial video I have ever watched! Your instructions are extremely clear and I love the fact that you didn't waste time showing us you sewing on the machine. Thank you so much, this is exactly what I was looking for to make my next project!
Laura, just finished a Hexagon Star Quilt, using a layer cake (2) in pinks, not as exotic as the darks you used but is for a gift for a young girl that wanted a "pink" quilt. Love this quilt and may need to do another in the darks. Thanks again for a wonderful tutorial.
why not just 'snowball' the corners rather then cutting & sewing back on ?....Good question:) I thought the same thing however because of the shape needing 6 equal sides a square or a rectangle corner like a snow ball will not work. It doesn't flip over correctly. I tried:) Thanks for asking and thanks for watching
Thank you!!! As a new quilter I could not imagine how this was going to play out. But your tutorial and explanation was so easy to follow that I’m going to try this pattern soon. Thank you thank you thank you❤
I am delighted to find this! I have a concept for a quilt that will be a mix of squares, and I wanted to include some hexagons. Have been trying to figure out how to do what I want. This very clearly showed me what I need to know. I am a long time seamstress, but new quilter. Thank you.
I found your channel recently, watched all your earlier videos and liked I Spy quilt (video on labels). Thanks to today's video, I can make I Spy quilt for children very easy. I would like to thank you for your great ideas throughout all videos I have seen. Always organized and nicely prepared. I can easily understand every step of making new blocks etc. (I have already used some ideas - for example sewing the batting scraps by machine with a zig-zag stitch and made two quilts with otherwise "leftover batting",). When you post new video, the first thing is to watch it along with my morning coffee :-)
Laura, It took me just 5 minutes to subscribe to your channel. That is the quickest I have ever subbed to a new channel! Thanks for explaining this tutorial the way you did!
Just saw this on facebook today and downloaded the pattern. LOVE IT! I am thinking of making it smaller for Quilts 4 Kids. Maybe 5 across and 7 down for an approximately 40 x 52 size. Thank you!
Your video was AWESOME!!! I am so glad that I saw it. I was intimidated with the thought of making a hexagon quilt. You have empowered me. Thank you!!!
I love your tutorial but have a question. If I were making a 2-1/2" or 4-12" hexagon, what size rectangle would I cut to obtain triangles for these 2 sizes?
Hey Laura I love your work Teaching is precise/concise n calculated You're a great teacher n love the efforts you put into your work Thanks for sharing 😊 By the way I'm crazy about shapes
I tried to get the pattern but I guess I was too late. I hope I can remember it but I probably won't even remember where I saw it! I love this. You are a good teacher.
Hi, I've recently started watching your videos. I wondered if you have any advice or know where I can find a chart to easily work out the dimensions needed to do the corner triangles for different sizes of hexagons? I keep trying it with bits of paper, and not getting what I need. I'm currently trying with a 4" hexagon, but I could easily need other sizes in the future. The last maths class I went to was probably in 1979! Thank you 🙂
Love this pattern, and Thanks for the Link. I do quilts for Kids in hospital organization. They gave me so many 6 1/2 squares to do something with. this would be great. I wish I knew how to down size to be able to do this block for that size of square
Hi Trudy I was thinking of all your 6 1/2" squares...here's a quick quilt that you can do starting with any size square. ruclips.net/video/fy6sd8DbzQc/видео.html
Just before I seen your reply. I had just finished watching that on your u tube . and I thought the same thing, because you just add more lenght to the strips to fit the square. Question do I use a border or just bind it Thank you so much !
Thank you for a clear understanding of handling the "dreaded" hexagon. I fear it no longer. I love the quilt hanging behind you. May I ask what is the pattern name? It would be perfect for my scrap stash. Love your work!!
I too love the pattern on the quilt behind Laura. I have made a couple of small pieces with this pattern. It is so quick and easy to put together. I planned the colours and patterns before I sewed but I want to try the next one with just a box of random pieces and see how it comes out. Good luck if you do try it. Julia
Laura, somebody needs to give you your own TV show! Your explanations and demonstrations are so clear and easy to follow.
+NightKitchenQueen lol thank you for such a great compliment:)
