I've said it several times, the Sony rare camera is up there with the very best. Tired of people comparing digital art photos from Samsung and Apple to a natural looking photo from Sony.

P.S. Manufacturers not offering new original batteries for their devices, for say up to 10 years - I think it's just criminal. Battery getting worse is such an "incentive" to ditch a perfectly good phone and buy a new one.
@@bag2963 Yep. Well, nowadays many new phones do have that. But still, that's not nearly the same as what I wrote above, of clas course. Well, I found some websites, apparently one can often find original batteries, but certainly not from Amazon, and other popular website, or from the manufacturer's website. One has to dig a bit deeper in search engine, it seems. So that's good.
@@Serbofreak nice! Battery is something easy to replace, cheaper than display, so I think doesn't matter. Your reply encouraged me to actually check out it. Thank You Serbo
Great insight; I can't find any info about the gps signal strenght, coulmd you help please? How the signal is locked using apps like strava or runtastic ? it was an issue on older xperia . the signal was lost all the time; How does that works on the 5 ii ?
I am not sure if it is a China issue or a phone issue, but almost every non-China phone I've had here had GPS issues. In dense urban areas I would have no problems, but the signal would drop in random places where I do not have a 5G antenna nearby or if LTE coverage is weaker. This issue was consistent with my actual physical location, rather than random drops.
Hi Pitchwisse, thanks for the review of xperia 5ii. May I ask something about your xperia5ii, I notice that there is an icon of voLTE. What region did you flash or what version of xperia 5ii? I have an xperia 5 last year and flash it to SEA firmware and voLTE is enabled. But today, a bought xperia 5ii and flash it to SEA firmware to have a voLTE but no luck..
It’s caused by heat. Some adhesive on the display ribbon melts off (shitty samsung quality). Don’t leave the phone on hot places, if you update the android put it in a cold place, don’t use it while charging etc. If you can afford it, i’d say don’t use the phone case to let out more heat.
This is a very specific phone for a specific user. The cameras require a lot of manual tweaking and the battery might take a hit due it being a 3yo old phone. Other than that, performance should be perfectly fine and the display is stunning.
@@Serbofreak basically Im not into that kind of gamming in smartphone than a moderate user. Will the default camera apps are good enough to bring out the most of the camera setup?
Is it possible to force the 240hz option in the game mode globally, for every app you open? It's such a niche but extremely good feature to have in a display, especially in a OLED. It could help people that are struggling with low hertz strobing PWM too.
I think you've mixed up the refresh rate (120Hz), touch response (240Hz), and pwm (over 500). These are all conpletely different aspects of the display.
@@Serbofreak No, I have not. In-fact, they're related. The "touch response" being '240hz' just means they've applied motion blur reduction (MBR, single-strobe PWM, the good kind) every other frame, hiding the transition (blur trail behind object) behind a black frame (hence some TV's call it 'Black Frame Insertion'. The 'PWM' people call out all the time is called 'multi-strobe PWM, the bad kind) and is mostly used as dimming technique in OLED panels to preserve proper black levels and color. What I want is being able to globally enable the strobing mode (MBR) without applying it per app (how it is right now) so I can use this panel at lower brightness levels (5-10%) without destroying my eyes with lower Hz PWM (anything below 10kHz is a eye hazard tbh) Source: forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?t=6519
@@qbxcv An educated reply, I see. Alright, you cannot force 240Hz directly, but you can install an app called Twilight. It will allow the display to go even dimmer than what the system sets. This is the main reason why I hate Xiaomi phones and cannot explain to people that they're crap. Their pwm is so low that you can barely get any sleep at night.
@@Serbofreak Yeah, I feel you, it's crazy that in 2022 manifacturers are still shoving down low Hz PWM dimming upon our throat's thinking it's fine. I think this phone might be one of a few OLED smartphones that can work for some people that suffer from eye strain from multi-strobe PWM (provided MBR is something they can tolerate, not everyone can!) at lower brightness levels. Reviewers also seem to praise higher brightness levels and not mention how dim the display can get. No normal person uses max brightness in-doors or before going to sleep, way too many nits can also be a cause of headaches and eye strain. Twillight seems to somewhat work (not entirely sure if the transparent filter actually adjusts the nits & energy outputted by the phone itself) for displays that exhibit no PWM dimming at 100% brightness (there are some that strobe regardless of brightness setting, blame lazy manifacturers :/), not entirely sure if the 5 II has it at 100% brightness. Also, I have to correct myself, the touch response seems to be irrelevant of the motion blur reduction feature, they are separate things! The latter is just classified as "Max screen refresh rate: 240hz" Thank you for clarifying on whether MBR can be enabled globally, you were of great help! Oh, and I forgot to mention, great review! I like phone revisits after a year or more!
@@qbxcv Xperia phones are the only ones using display technology of their own. Everyone else is using low grade Samsung panels (in my opinion even the high grade ones are terrible), or even worse - Chinese TCL (rainbow banding for all). There's a reason why I use this one as my everyday phone.

2. The Sony "1 handed use" feature, should you need it.
3. The camera is very nice.
When I got mine, it immediately started updating several times to the current version, so it "maxed out" to w/ever version it's supposed to have.
@@Kman. I just got the phone about 2-3 weeks ago. Mine is au sets (Japanese version of the phones) For the 4-year-old ex-flagship devices, I think it's still performed very well on this day.
Best phone i ever had but i unfortunately now have 4 green stripes in the screen :( almost unbarable.
the only major thing that i would like to see is videorecording to all lensnes including selfie lens in shot. would be amazing, the rest is like perfect
Do you still have the green lines? I wanted to buy this phone but then I heard people complain about the lines😢
P.S.
Manufacturers not offering new original batteries for their devices, for say up to 10 years - I think it's just criminal.
Battery getting worse is such an "incentive" to ditch a perfectly good phone and buy a new one.
Planned obsolescence of course.
But Sony's got some battery life saving tech.
@@bag2963
Yep.
@@MaximC Good to know, thanks. I hope that rainbow colors don't symbolise lgbt stuff, I mean having that as a pfp isn't that wise.
@@bag2963
Sorry, won't comment that.
may you tell me how you volte in sony xperia v II
Hi do You still use until today? Does green line problem occur like mark II?
@@WazapBlastah Believe it or not, I am still using it, typing from it right now. There is no green line for me, but the battery has absolutely died.
@@Serbofreak nice! Battery is something easy to replace, cheaper than display, so I think doesn't matter.
Your reply encouraged me to actually check out it. Thank You Serbo
Great insight; I can't find any info about the gps signal strenght, coulmd you help please?
How the signal is locked using apps like strava or runtastic ? it was an issue on older xperia . the signal was lost all the time;
How does that works on the 5 ii ?
I am not sure if it is a China issue or a phone issue, but almost every non-China phone I've had here had GPS issues. In dense urban areas I would have no problems, but the signal would drop in random places where I do not have a 5G antenna nearby or if LTE coverage is weaker. This issue was consistent with my actual physical location, rather than random drops.
Sony Xperia 5 Mark 2 docomo 5g te green line issue ase?
Have you experienced any shutterlag (when you take a photo but it lags a bit from when you press the button to when the photo is taken)?
It takes time if it takes a longer exposure shot, but there was no software related shutter lag.
pixel 6a vs xperia 5 ii?
Hi Pitchwisse, thanks for the review of xperia 5ii. May I ask something about your xperia5ii, I notice that there is an icon of voLTE. What region did you flash or what version of xperia 5ii? I have an xperia 5 last year and flash it to SEA firmware and voLTE is enabled. But today, a bought xperia 5ii and flash it to SEA firmware to have a voLTE but no luck..
Mine is the international version (Hong-Kong), and I live in China.
@@Serbofreak thank you so much, I will flash my xperia 5ii model XQ-AS72 to hongkong firmware to get voLTE..
I heard rumors that this phone easily gets a green line on the screen. Any idea on how to avoid it???
It’s caused by heat. Some adhesive on the display ribbon melts off (shitty samsung quality). Don’t leave the phone on hot places, if you update the android put it in a cold place, don’t use it while charging etc. If you can afford it, i’d say don’t use the phone case to let out more heat.
In my country, refurbished unit of this phone ar available around 250usd.Will it be a good option in this budget in 2022(almost 2023)
@@ahasanabidrazin2303 Compared to modern day phones, you might struggle with exposure. But the apps themselves, will allow for a very creative output.
What I want is being able to globally enable the strobing mode (MBR) without applying it per app (how it is right now) so I can use this panel at lower brightness levels (5-10%) without destroying my eyes with lower Hz PWM (anything below 10kHz is a eye hazard tbh)
Source: forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?t=6519
@@qbxcv An educated reply, I see. Alright, you cannot force 240Hz directly, but you can install an app called Twilight. It will allow the display to go even dimmer than what the system sets. This is the main reason why I hate Xiaomi phones and cannot explain to people that they're crap. Their pwm is so low that you can barely get any sleep at night.
@@Serbofreak
Yeah, I feel you, it's crazy that in 2022 manifacturers are still shoving down low Hz PWM dimming upon our throat's thinking it's fine.
The latter is just classified as "Max screen refresh rate: 240hz"
Thank you for clarifying on whether MBR can be enabled globally, you were of great help!
Does 8 GB RAM is enough for today's usages? In dilemma between 1 iii vs 5 ii
I mean it must be right logically my laptop has 8 GB my old Iphone 6 had 2 I think and ive been using it earlier this year without too much problems.
I using the Xperia 1ii 8gb ram. Everything is just fine, I'm playing the high-graphic game Yeager hunter legend and can still multitask just fine switching from app to app smoothly
@@RamlyJer Nice, sorry for the late. I've purchased other phone with 12 GB RAM and ended up still missing the Xperia. So I just purchased a 5 ii (8/128). Still looking good for today's standard.
How many Android updates will it get?
I'm pretty sure android 12 will be the last major update. After that, we should get security patches for more than a year.
i just update for android 12 and i hate that theme :(
Does green line issue happened to you
Still have the phone, have been using it daily, no issues so far.
Bro is it really that small or that too small cause I wanna 1ii but the display is too overkill
It's pleasant in the hand and smaller than most flagship behemoths. That's the best explanation I can give.
Does it heat up when using video recorder for a while
Yes every phone does heatup
Does it lag in 2023
The battery integrity is low, but it will never lag, not one bit.

How’s the battery life? I’m debating switching from an iPhone 13
I'd best describe it as unpredictable. On my heaviest day I'd get 5 hours sot with about 3 hours of music through ldac. On the other hand, I'd have days sitting at home, gaming at full throttle, and end up with 6 hours of sot. On lite usage with no gaming, it can go up to two days.
battery life is amazing. i almost always only charge the phone till 80% and almost always make it through the day with it. it depends what you value more. i got this phone from last summer and its amazing.
@@namelesssnitchy has it got any display failure? im afraid to buy it used because so many people report the display getting vertical lines on it

Whatever you say.. Sony must improve their softwares in the phone
its practically stock Android... what are you talking about???
@@KananNallainathan the same stock Android forever... That's what I'm talking about... Atleast they must let the users to flash custom roms.. they just want you to use the same software for years...
