I was surprised to see FN come out with the redesigned High Power. I wonder if the knew Springfield Armory was introducing one too. It will be interesting to see how the market dynamics develop.
I like it, but if they were gonna go full update, where’s the 1913 accessory rail and optics mount cut? Also the hole in the front of the slide for the guide rod seems unnecessary. Should’ve left it sealed there.
Interesting handgun that has surely passed the test of time. Wanted one since I was a kid and finally bought one before Browning quit offering it. Hopefully the new offerings will correct some minor complaints with the design. I wish it success and would love to shoot the new FN. Thank you and take care!
Bad idea. The standard Hi power, with the thinnest grips available, was/is ~1.10” wide. That’s Glock 48 width. Not worth turning it into a 2x4 for +2 rounds.
First off, thankyou for a very informative, simple and short video. I love the Hi Power. I have an original Browning that I shot and carried for years. Fact is the HP cannot do it better than many other guns but that doesn't make it irrelevant. It's cool, it's neat, it's all those things. This one, IDK. A 21st century upgrade without two key features for the 21st century shooter - a light rail and optics cut. If you want the piece of history for you collection and safe; buy an original (sounds like same price) or the SA. If you're looking to defend your family or shoot competition, this gun can* do it but you can probably do it better with something else. Hopefully this will get more HP's on the market and maybe help bring down the costs of the originals and SA's.
Bad idea. The standard Hi power, with the thinnest grips available, was/is ~1.10” wide. That’s Glock 48 width. Not worth turning it into a 2x4 for +2 rounds. One of its biggest advantages was being a very small full sized handgun. That’s like turning a 15 round factory G48 into a G19. Why?
The light rail isn't an issue for me...I understand and respect their utility, but on a handgun, I refuse to use them for a variety of reasons. The optics cut likewise isn't an issue for me...just as it isn't for most people. Yes, it is the "cool new thing", but the reality of spending $500-$1000+ on a pistol and then dropping another $500+ on an optic is a bit much. Maybe if I had a job that required that I carry or was some sort of operator (for real or only to LARP) I might have a different opinion. As for your comment about defending your family...there are a lot of people who have been put in boxes by the original Hi-Power and countless others that don't have the current "must have" dinguses.
This won’t affect original Hi Power collectibility. 1911s are a perfect example. Everyone makes them but yet Collector/ Historic 1911s still bring top dollar. I’m glad to see FN starting production and I think it’s a great idea to modernize it.
I was initially really excited about it, but the more I learn about it, the more my enthusiasm wanes. If they ever hit sub $1K street price, I'll think about it, but I think I'm going to try to snag a cheap used SA-35 from the inevitable wave of gun owners that want to "upgrade" to the FN.
Bad idea. The standard Hi power, with the thinnest grips available, was/is ~1.10” wide. That’s Glock 48 width. It’s actually slightly thinner. Why they would turn it into a 2x4 for +2 rounds is beyond me. One of its biggest advantages was being a very small full sized 9mm - both for shooters with smaller hands and to be carried.
The High Power Mk IV shouldn't impact prices of the older classics but it is an evolution of an old master. 17=1 and a take down lever gives you a gun that competes with the cz75 p01. This is a very interesting new pistol; I will probably get one in stainless
Thank you for your informative video. I hope this new FN High Power is successful but I'm planning to buy the Springfield SA-35 since I already have an Argentine FM 'Hi-Power' and a classic FN P-35. The Springfield will be able to use standard magazines I already have plus most standard P-35 parts that are widely available. Its improved trigger and sights are icing on the cake.
I do like the HP and have one from back in the early 1980's. The feel of the gun is great and the accuracy is mediocre at best and consequently has been rarely shot over the years. Going forward I may consider another one, but only if it is offered in an optic ready version. Personally, I would lean more toward SA rather than FN because of the more traditional design, safety, and price point. However, in the final analysis both makes need to get more widely distributed and reviewed before a conclusion can be reached.
If the year was 2600 an original High Point, a clone, and this one would make a nice historical collection. But in the life of anyone alive, or even their great grandchildren, this new one will be something some people buy but most don't and irrelevant to the original.
It is NOT a Hi Power. It's a whole new gun, way wider. FN is just riding the Name HI Power. The Girsan is the way to go, since it actually works, as opposed to the Springfield.
Bad idea. The standard Hi power, with the thinnest grips available, was/is ~1.10” wide. That’s Glock 48 width. Actually, thinner. The frame is only 1” wide. Not worth turning it into a 2x4 for +2 rounds. One of its biggest advantages was being a very small full sized handgun.
Non compatible magazines with the original Hi Power, non compatible magazines with the FN509, no light rail, no optics cutand a cost of $1200-1359. No thanks. This is NOT a “Hi Power” to say the least. This is an entirely different creature. FN, you failed.
It really seem like availability for these new guns are impossible. No Springfield SA-35 anywhere and no FN? Things in the gun industry has gotten as stupid as the present administration!!
The Springfield looks better and, if the last FN HP's are any gauge in fit and finish, of higher quality. Sorry FN, you've been bested in your own game.
If you’ve actually shot one of the new Springfields…it’s just…OK. Also the extractors have been giving out after around 800 rounds. The finish is also garbage. Springfield hasn’t done anything good aside from their range officer 1911s.
Where is the ammo? Guns do not hit targets. Ammo does. Where is the ammo in the SHOT show?Where is the ammo? Guns do not hit targets. Ammo does. Where is the ammo in the SHOT show?
IT IS TOO BAD THAT FN HAD TO HAD 8 OZ TO THE WEIGHT OF THIS PISTOL FROM BROWNING'S WEIGHT OF 32 OZ. I WILL WAIT UNTIL SA 35 IS MOVE AVAILABLE IN A FEW MONTHS. DON'T THINK AMERICA NEEDS A 40 OZ PISTOL. NO THANKS.

The same reaction my old man had. He loved the thin grips of the Hi-Power.
Yes!!!! The old legend still lives! XD

there is also a british company looking to make a slightly updated, boutique version of the hp called the "defiance" i believe

@@kfeltenberger So, are you going to get one? That's the question FN wants to know and think they've answered with this offering.
@@rolotomase1440 I plan on at least one.

I think this one will take the same path as the FN HP-DA.
I'd like to see a comparison with the Springfield SA-35.

For the price, the SA-35 can't be beat. I've enjoyed shooting that one.
The real question is can we use the new fn mags in the SA-35
If I had to guess, I'd say no.
@@HighCaliberHistoryLLC thats unfortunate 😕

Need a practical version. Can’t beat that two tone finish. Miss the 40s&w too.

Thanks for watching the video. I've got an SA-35 and am very happy with it.
Unique barrel, mags and slide with likely unique "improved" internals. It's a hi power in the sense that a PT92 is a beretta 92
Some things are better left alone.
Is this a "dig" at the "fn hi power" or a compliment
@@treynichols1654 It depends on how you feel about this new version.
@@HighCaliberHistoryLLC this is not high power pistol , this is single anction New bda pistol , buy SA 35
I really want to try a girsan and if I could the fn and see how they compare. Love the capacity though
It’s a totally new pistol they put the Hi Power name on for marketing purposes. It won’t affect the older models at all.
Its nice but for that price and platform I 'd prefer a CZ 85 da/sa ambi for a step further up.
Planning on buying one

They’ve done this before with 2 different models in the 80s and 90s
Not quite. This is a radical departure even from those models.
$1,200, ouch, I'll get a Springfield.
I have to agreed 100% in everything that you mentioned here and for some reason the Colt Double Eagle came to my mind. Well done and great video.
Thanks for watching!
I'll take the Girsan.
I can tell you how this member of the public will respond. I'm calling my dealer and telling him to get me one in stainless.
This is the FN answer to Beretta's 92x. IMO, CZ needs to catch up fast.
It may be their answer, but I don't think anyone asked this specific question.

It looks a little like a Hi-Power...but it's not a Hi-Power. Big miscue by FN, IMO.
Put that money on a real Browning High Power.
My thoughts exactly.
looking this is the biggest market faliure tha FN ever had

I kinda of love it but kinda hate it
The FN is not competitive price to the SA-35
I really don't think FN is trying to compete with the SA-35.
Too expensive for most folks. And it probably does not take original Hi Power magazines or grips. I'll go with the Springfield.
check out girsans iteration too, honest outlaw has a vid on it
It also doesn't take hi power barrels or slides and likely won't take standard internals
Something about it just doesnt look right.
Yeah it looks off to me too.
Ugly pistol not for me. I love the classic hi power. What a shit lookinh.
