Super badass! The band, Waylon - in their prime! One of Billy Joe's greatest songs. Can't beat this, man. Waylon makes singing like he does look so so easy, but man I swear he is as sophisticated and masterful a vocalist as Sinatra, which is a high compliment for sure. It's through attempting to sing and deliver a song the way Waylon does that one really learns just how nuanced and sensitive a musician he was. And of course for all the skill and experience, ultimately it's his ability to convey emotions that sound authentic and integral to the song that make what he does a high art. You feel the characters' emotions and become captivated by the stories contained in the songs when Waylon sings them, and equally well when singing other's songs as his own. That's the mark of a true artist. And he sure as heck knowed how to pick em - his repetoire was damn near flawless. Damn what I'd give to have seen him live like we see here, but alas I was still a year shy of being born. :(

Perfect comment on an imperfect man who happened to be perfectly what we needed and still do to this day. His ability is unmatched in any genre and any generation. He brought skills, passion, grit, determination, integrity to a business that everyone had some of those things but only Waylon had all of them in unlimited supply.

kicko61 Ralph Mooney lived not far from Burleson (where I live) and I did a feature story on him for the newspaper I edited. I made several subsequent visits to his house. He was a really nice guy as well as a heck of a steel player. He also wrote several memorable country songs, Crazy Arms being one of them.

Song really hits me. I've made a career out of bringing Michelin grade food to local bars. Much like waylon brought top notch music to little known honky tonks and local bars. There's something to be said about those big fish who hang around the small ponds. They bring more to their community that way I feel. Thanks waylon for inspiring me to strive for exceptionalism no matter what im trying to do.

I couldn't sing half as good stone cold sober, so I'd have to say that this just highlights the man's unbelievable talent. To sing and play like that, drunk, high, or a mixture of both just means you don't know your songs, you ARE your songs. It's a whole other deal when you're that damn genuine.

    Low down leaving sun
Done, did everything that needs done
Woe is me, why can't I see?
I'd best be leaving well enough alone
Where do it go? The good Lord only knows
Seems like it was just the other day
I was down at Green Gables, hakwing them tables
And generally blowing all my hard earned pay
Piano rolled blues, danced holes in my shoes
There weren't another other way to be
For lovable losers, no account boozers
And honky tonk heroes like me

Billy Joe Shaver and his outlaw poems
    He wrote this one and
Many of Waylon’s (this one’s a true story about his a mama as a bar hop)
Green Gables is a actual Bar and Grill
    Billy Joe Said
You tell Waylon that I can write a better song that he can but he’s prettier than I am 😂😂 so it will sell more records if he plays them
As kid Billy Joe idolized Waylon and many more he wrote for but he never could get past the honky Tonks in his career
He said because I ain’t letting no walking (male
Appendage ) with a hangman’s noose around his neck tell me how to sang and play my own D$& music
