Can you review Arya's plot armor?
@Casanova Frankenstein simp bitch
Casanova Frankenstein stfu, just because someone doesn’t want to take the shit the writers of the show are shoving in their faces instead of a well-developed and cohesive story doesn’t make them sexist
What the hell happened in this comment section?
My problem with this review is that you ended the review of the Stark family sword with "The Rains of Castamere" playing in the background.
+NaarghultheShadow
I like you.
lmao
Dragon Wolf Ned dies by the hands of the Baratheons. Although Joffrey is only legally a Baratheon
because he's a sadist and prob will get Robbed soon :D
Ali he died by the Lannisters.
Ice looked a lot bigger in the show...
Tbh i also dont really see it as being Usefull in an actual fight, its really more of an executioner Sword.
Only reason it's useable in the books not in the show is because in the books valyrian steel is lighter
Na it’s the same hight
Bro it was 6 ft in book
Good to see RUclips finally allowed porn.
Lolwut
Kaiser Wilhelm II, the first was a gas, but like the god father, the sequel kicks ass
Der Kaiser!? Sind sie es?!?
Oscar Lorde Got clowns to the west of me and jokers to the east but Austria-Hungary is my mate
i'm gonna buy this and melt it down into two separate swords.
Do it
You'd ruin the steel.
and u become "sword of the morning"
Fuck oath keeper
@@sumanc27 ha ha ha
I like this one more than the other from the books, looks more Northern and simple the other looks more royal.
True, however do remember it was forged in Valyria, not the north so a more elegant design would not be unrealistic
John Maton
You are right dude, but you see on the guard it says Winter is Coming,i think the Starks re made it just like Jon Snow Long Claw has a Wolf on the pommel re made.
That makes a lot of sense actually. I suppose it's quite possible that they only ever got the blade from Valyria in the first place.
John Maton
Yeah remade the hilt is nothing, the blade is that matters,so if lets say someone got that sword he could change the hilt to his liking i guess.
hilts can be swapped.
Ned Stark does use Ice in battle at the siege of pyke
Love the fact you go through the history of the blade
If we go by real life historical specifications, Jon Snow's Longclaw is actually a bastard sword because of it's hand and a half hilt and Ned Stark's Ice is actually a longsword for it's exclusive usage for two hands. Greatswords in real life are about as tall as the user, if not taller, and have a hilt measuring up to about the same size as length of their backs.
I thought of Ice as an executioners sword, because it's too short to be a greatsword but longer than a longsword
It’s been 4 years and I continue to check beck on this channel at least once or twice a year to see if there ever is an update on this scabbard lol
Great Video. You did an Excellent & Honest assessment of the sword. It's nice to see a video from a collector who knows what they are talking about. I'm looking forward to your other videos. Thanks
And to think Tywin melted that beautiful down
J Double C the disrespect right?lol
The original weapon was absurdly large. Plenty of steel for two swords.
You can't use that sword in battle. Too large and too heavy obviously. It's more of a ceremonial sword than a fighting one.
Melting it in 2 served a better purpose for it.
@@ethan9841 those were used in battle
@@ethan9841 true,but still its a shame.
And how small house such as Bear island could possed valerian steel? They buy it on valeria must be costly right?
This is a great ,very professional and very well researched video and its great to finally see a review with a experienced reviewer.Well done!
experienced reviewer meaning knows what the fuck he is talking about and is
experienced in videos
Mlgmrcatinthehat Thank you! I appreciate the feedback, positive or negative. I always try my best to talk about the relevance of the prop to its wider universe and the pros/cons of the items for collectors interested in owning them. Haha But mostly this started out as an interest for me to learn how to use Final Cut Pro and I'm really enjoying the process so far.
What's the length of the guard? I recently bought Longclaw and I wanted to get Ice too but I'm not sure if I have enough room to hang them both up as I have limited wall space. Oddly enough I can't find the measurement of the guard anywhere not even on the Valyrian Steel site.
should i wait for oathkeeper ( show version preorder this fall but shipping early 2015, book version about next fall) or buy ice instead?
ModernCollector, Nice collection!!! Btw, I heard from a Valyrian Steel rep that the limited edition swords might be re-released after the show ends in case you missed out on some swords. Where did u get the Raiders' gold fertility idol?
You mentioned you were getting Oathkeeper. Is that from Valyrian Steel too? Because I don't see it on their website at the moment.
Also is it a bit wobbly? I've read other comments say that the sword is a bit wobbly because of it's size.
Where did you buy the wolf scabbard any advice where I can buy one? Please help me
Boromir always wielded a heavy sword haha
if longclaw is 4.4 pounds and Ice is 9 then it's twice as heavy. (100% more) not 50% more?
I caught a glimpse of an amazing 1:1 ironman helmet in our of your early shots, might you be able to tell me where it was purchased? And how much it cost, if you don't mind?
hey, do you still make those wolf scabbards for the sword yourself?
Any updates on the wolf-pelt scabbard? how'd it turn out?
Oathkeeper review? That would be awesome
9lbs is more than double 4.3lbs, so it's more than 100% heavier, not 50% heavier
Artemis Logic he says at least 50 percent heavier so he ain’t wrong lol
those shouldnt be that heavy its impractical
Blaa Blaa big swords like that weren’t for fighting they were made for executions contrary to what movies and tv show like to show cutting a mans head off requires a large amount of force even with a razor sharp sword it’s why people were forced to kneel so the executors could put their weight into the swing
@@916Spectre bigger swords than that one were used in fighting and yet they were lighter than that one
As for executions it makes no sense to cast a bigass sword its expensive and the axe will do a finer job
Now as for the bigass swords used in battle they were used for charging and breaking pike formations not for fencing
It is a nice choice for a Damascus blade. Thanks for your help.
No prob!
Will this sword have or gain as much value as the Limited Edition of Longclaw (King of the North Edition) being that Ice is apparently not limited edition even though it comes with a certificate of authenticity?
Are you planning on getting the replica for Oathkeeper???
Please could you be so kind as to tell me the width of the handle and length of the crossguard?
How can I buy Damascus version of Longclaw or Oathkeeper
from which website did you order these ?? please share the link ??..
Can these be shipped to India by any chance ??
I like your room full of a stormtrooper helmet, the batman mask, a predator mask and a glass slipper. I need to get a hold of this sword if it never needs sharpening.
LMAO
It does
Are there any key superiorities between the Damascus and 1060 steel versions? Im looking to buy one but Im stumped on which one to get.
I am no expert but in the book describes it as a dark metal dark as smoke so youre getting a more authentic one with the Damascus.
Ditto to what Mlgmrcatinthehat said. The Damascus Steel one costs quite a bit more so that may factor into your purchase. I think for Ice, the Damascus Steel one looks better - but there's regular maintenance you'll need to perform on it; whereas the stainless one requires no maintenance.
Do you have needle from Aria stark?
where did you get the capt. america shield?!
Nice review bro. I'm happy you finally got ice. Sick idea for the scabbard. I would try doing it myself but I'm not as crafty as you. Would you be willing to make another if yours turns out good? I'm willing to pay you for your time and materials. Btw my longclaw and scabbard came in.
I don't know if this is a stupid question but is it real steal ??
Is it real Damascus or is it stainless steel with the pattern etched in?
the bamascus steel versions have full tangs ? or its based on the sword?
Full tang I think
Hello, I'm thinking about buying ice and I want something as close to the one seen on the tv show as possible, do you know if they did use Damascus steel on the show's ice?
I'm pretty sure they used a similar manufacturing process for the show swords. Although, they were made by a master swordsmith so those are of much higher quality than these Valyrian Steel swords. Also, if you take a look at the blade on the show, you can see that the edges of the Ice blade are sanded down to an almost "shiny" state. That being said, these are perhaps the best quality replicas you can get. Hope that helps!
Definetely does, thank you for your atetion
I just got my "Ice" replica today and I'm very much new to having something like this. My question is, is there anything in particular I should do to keep it clean?
+Nate Jenkins Buy oil or an oil cloth. Wipe it with oil every 2 weeks or so or after its been handled, especially if people touch the blade. Also wipe down the brass, otherwise it may tarnish. Avoid any moisture with the hardwood handle.
+Justin MacLeod thank you
Will you do a video on Oathkeeper and Jaime Lannister's Sword???
I would really like you to review them when they are released
Please Respond :)
What's the name of music in the beginning
Would you recommend the Damascus steel version or a high carbon steel replica instead? The price difference is drastic that's why I'm wondering whether or not it's a better buy
+Stewart Fletcher I would honestly recommend just buying the regular stainless steel version but that's just me personally I really don't see a need in spending so much more money for a Damascus blade especially when it's just meant to be a wall hanger.
-Hoped that helped.
Actually damascus don't bring much into a blade anymore, since our steel nowadays is really great.
I would think in reverse, having damascus, for a thing that only have one purpose : To be pretty.
Where you buy the swords
How did the scabbard turn out?
Can you use them in a swordfight ?
Parabéns pela sua coleção!
Nice vid, I was wondering, does Valyrian steel sell the swords that Tywin made using Ice... the ones that Jofferey and Brienne were given with the Lannister Gold handles?
I want those! (or one of them)
Also, you mentioned them having dull rounded edges.. is it possible to sharpen the Damascus steel so that it can be sharp as a real sword... (not that im planning on killing anyone or anything lol ;) )
About sharpening, I think Valyrian Steel strongly recommends against it and I haven't see anyone else attempt to do so; so I don't really know what will happen if the sword is sharpened. Also, I don't think Valyrian Steel uses the type of metal that fighting swords are made with and would cause the blade to dull quite easily.
I do hear that they're going to make Oathkeeper, the sword Jamie gives to Brienne, later this fall - I'm planning on getting that one too. :)
Where can i get the wolf scabbard
Why was it stuck at the post office?
I want to know about the exact width of sword and guard.
Update on the scabbard????
Did you complete the scabbard ?
Anyone know what the piece of music at the beginning is called?
The initial theme I used is an excerpt from the Game of Thrones Season 2 Soundtrack - Winterfell (Track 6). Hope that helps!
amazing so are u gonna get the replica oathkeeper?
I hope he does
Beautiful sword
Where does Valyrian Steel have their blades made?
Where did he get this sword?
Where you bougth a scabbard ? O.o Answer please.
Could you use this as an actual sword if you wanted to (if it would break ect)
Dylan porter It's made of proper carbon steel so I think so yes. If the hilt and guard hold together.
the edge is sharp?
I really like your shirt great video by the way
Ola soy de Perú, donde puedo comprar una igual y cuanto está ??
Thanks. Love your videos by the way.
No problem! Thanks! :)
Are you closer to deciding on one you'd prefer?
where do you buy these items . I would to get myself one and not a cheap knockoff
Valyrian steel
I absolutely love the T-shirt
The red one with 'Damn it feels good to be A lannister
The kink in Ice's wood grip is intentional, and was mirrored from the prop, which also has it.
are these swords sharp?
Ice looks huge when he chops off the deserter head ...witch sword was he using fighting Jamie and the sword of the morning
Just a regular sword.. Nothing special about it... Although it is referred that he used Ice in the siege of pyke, it would be very difficult for an actor to execute the fight choreographies with a sword weighing 9 pounds
Can you still sharpen Jon's snow sword even if its rounded and smoothed?
I wouldnt bother. Longclaw, being made of stainless steel, is really just a sword shaped object. Completely unsuitable for test cutting or practical use at all.
Imagine ice with the wolf pommel and black handle and a cross guard in the style of Anduril from LOTR , that would be a elegant looking sword
whats the song at 0:40
great vid any tips for the scabbard
What tips are you looking for? Lemme know and I'll see if I can help. ;)
lmao
How could you buy all that stufs
Hey bro I know you like star wars. Did you hear the actress the plays Bri of Tarth in g.o.t is going to have a role in the upcoming star wars film.
I heard!!! With her sense of humour, I can see her being a great Jedi character. I'm also super excited about Lupita Nyong'o being cast as well. I wonder how JJ's gonna utilize her? She'd make a very convincing Asajj Ventress.
You think I can sharpen longclaw myself?
Have they made an Oathkeeper replica? That sword is immaculate I would love to own one.
+Ghiscari Yep. You can find it on the internet for about 500 bucks!
Blegh Wow! That's expensive but I get why. Thanks!
+Ghiscari Its not 500 bucks its only 270 the damascus steel version is 700 bucks
I had a stroke from trying to keep up with the swords you were talking about
where did you get your pelt and how much did it run you?
I got my pelt from a local furs shop, although I'm sure you'll be able to find a bunch online as well. If you can though, I'd suggest shopping locally to find a pelt that will match the appropriate length for Ice - might be hard to determine online. Also, you'll be able to feel the different qualities of the furs and the select between subtleties in coloration. As for price, with taxes and everything, it came out to just over $200; these pelts can get quite expensive. Hope that helps!
yea i figured, because the one you found is fantastic, just am not sure where to go locally to find one just yet
how do you properly oil the blade?
You can oil it, but I'd recommended that you wax it instead. It'll hold up better long term and to handling. The wax I use is called Renaissance Wax and it's really good! You should look it up, it's used by museums worldwide to protect their artifacts. Hope that helps!
what's the difference between Damascus and stainless? At least, in terms of cutting performance, and the like.
"damascus" is usually made by forge welding high carbon and lower carbon steels to make a blade hard enough to keep and edge, but soft enough to not shatter when used. Stainless steel is usless for actual use, its to soft and can bend under the force of its own weight on impact, and break very easily making it dangerous to mess about with. anything made of stainless is a decoration only. but as far as this sword goes, that really does not matter. this is decoration only. the sword is too heavy to be fuctional, a historically accurate sword of that size is usually between 3-5 lbs, with anything over 4.5 lbs considered rather heavy. being as heavy as it is this sword would be almost uncontrolable in the cut, and its momentum would carry it much further than you want it to, putting you at risk of injuring yourself. i know 9lbs does not sound like alot, but remember that most of that mass is forward of the hilt, wich makes it feel and act like it is MUCH heavier.
Damascus Steel was an invention of Middle Eastern, and later, Mediterranean Master Swordsmiths who used a particular type of Iron Ore imported from the Indian subcontinent that imbued the steel with both a hardness (without the accompanying brittleness) and sharpness not found other swords. They were much sought after - though not as rare as Valeryian Steel in Westeros - and commanded high prices.
The secret to making Damascus Steel was lost however, and although various people have claimed to have rediscovered the process, it is only very recently that analysis has revealed the true nature of the original and the ability to recreate it. Stainless Steel is of course a 20th century invention.
Was debating on getting this or Longclaw and I'm glad I'm going with Long Claw.
The Ice is an amazing replica, but for some reason, i don't know why, maybe I'm crazy or my eyes don't work... but it doesn't look as wide as it is in the Show, nor as Long.
Long claw looks like someone snuck into Kit's prop room and stole it xD
I wanted Damascus but sadly they are sold out :( But Stainless fits more of the "Never needing maintenance" idea of Valyrian steel so i guess thats a bonus :)
" it doesn't look as wide as it is in the Show, nor as Long"
Bear in mind that when directors want to make an impressive prop look even more impressive, they can employ a number of filming techniques that add drama, making them look larger than they are in life.
how much did you pay for it?
Would Ice have been practical in battle? Or is its size too much?
I think its weight will be too much, even though valyrian steel is really light, in real life a sword that big wouldnt be light and useful
The Coffee Nut There have been many swords used in battles that were larger. Though if he's correct about the weight, there wouldn't have been many heavier. The sword is needlessly broad, but the length isn't an issue.
The Coffee Nut like Mortusdominus said there are historical examples of longer bladed swords like the claymore or the german greatsword, the weight is on the heavy side because of it's thickness but it's not that big of a deal since, for a greatsword, it's on the short side.
I have to say this would have been more practical if the handle wasn't cilindrical, a better design for it is either oval, or rounded rectangular, since the cilindrical shape doesn't give you the sense of blade alignment, grabbing it near or pressing against the crossguard would help a great deal with blade alignment.
I love your videos they are very professional keep up the good work
very nice replica ! The blade is sharpened ? (i'm french)
Merci d'avoir posé. The blade itself is not sharpened; but the tip of the sword is quite sharp.
Thank you for your answer !
Pierre Cavalli You're welcome! :)
Great Vid!!
Where did you order ice?
I think valyrian steel
Yes. I think Im going to go with the 1060. Ive heard good things about the steel in usability, and the Damascus is sadly a bit too far out of my budget.
The Damascus one's are super expensive! I don't know how many I'd want to get either. My thinking was, that if I were to have a Damascus blade, it'd be awesome to have a Damascus greatsword. And I LOVE my stainless Longclaw. It's also a beautiful blade.
ModernCollector Ha, every time you say how much you like your stainless steel Longclaw, the more excited I am to order mine. :) I can't wait to get it.
Eugene Johnson *thumbs up* Let me know when you get it! ;)
@@genefactor007 usability? Are u gonna be sword fighting or something man
Disrespecting Women Huh? Did I say something about usability? You are replying to something discussed years ago. Haha!
Beautiful collection, sir.
I wish they’d make a Crown of Winter replica
Direwolf...like wolves...but dire...Great video...maybe the odd shape on the grip was just for comfort? I know modern day knives the grip is slightly bulged to fit the hand better...BTW making the fox thing...that's amazing!
the fox thing??? it is a wolf!!!!
Mlgmrcatinthehat Relax...he knows what I meant
Haha Yeah, it's a Black Wolf - a fox would be quite a bit smaller. I'm glad you like it... I just hope it turns out well!
And I was wondering the same thing about the grip, but I don't think the sword is meant to be handed. I'm curious why the grip isn't symmetrical, b/c I assume the block of wood was machine lathed; which should create consistency.
modern collector were have you buy the sccabard
Made it himself
They are both relatively simple in design and overly heavy.
@BeastOf TheField That's not the point. Even 9 pounds is relatively easy for any adult, but the point is, a sword is more functional if it's not heavy.
Update on the wolf pet scabbard? common man its been 9 months! please!
Boba Fett's EE3 there too I noticed, nice 😁
What is the width of the blade at its widest point?
It is about 7.8-7.9 cm at it's widest point at the base of the guard.
ModernCollector thanks
Niall I was drunk and used it to chop the corner of my wall, and it bent a little but needless to say the wall was fucked.
If you know the story of the house stark, you should know that ice was a sword that existed since the age of heroes and the first men and the starks have used it generation after generation. Then unfortunatly it was melt by tywin lannister
