    I really think the shots are perfectly fine. Sure the whites are blown out on a bright sunny day but when you compare it to that Burger King Polaroid the shadows are totally underexposed. So what’s the point in complaining about overexposed whites but underexposed blacks are fine? Really can’t understand that harsh verdict 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @GuillaumeB7
      @GuillaumeB7 Год назад +2

      The main problem is that you should not have to underexpose by 1 stop to get the image right. At the same time, I have almost the same problem on my Instax SQ6 on bright sunny days (and the Instax Square film has the disadvantage of having higher contrast), so it's not just a Polaroid Now+ problem.

    • @stevejohnson4951
      @stevejohnson4951 Год назад +4

      @@GuillaumeB7 thing is, it is a high ISO film, so you have to have that in mind. Not only when shooting Polaroid, but when shooting any type of film. I really don’t have those issues with my cam. I never use the exposure compensation dail and it looks fine. But I know when it’s bright sunny day, I should not shoot white walls, but that goes even for the SX70. And when shooting film you always go for overexposure instead of underexposure. In the end it’s a matter of taste. When you prefer images where there are no informations in the darks, that’s ok, but judging a camera, when it really comes to personal taste, is really the same thing that the other guy did with the Lomo Square Glass. That is really not an unbaised review

      I agree. It’s a bit of a “lomographic” preference. Some people actually want a bit of difficulty and inconsistency. The viewfinder doesn’t even have a parallax grid. It’s like Polaroid wants these to be imperfect. It’s kind of like buying a lensbaby and complaining that it’s not good enough to capture landscapes. It’s just a wrong use case.

    I’m so glad you made this video, I’ve been wondering if it was fixed!!! I have camera acquisition syndrome (clinical diagnoses 😉😂) and every time I pick one up in the store or even a thrift store I stop myself because about half the people say it over exposes! I have a Polaroid Now (nonplus) and so far, it’s been a great camera. I’m only a beginner as far as film cameras go, but I feel like I’m learning how to get solid photos. My mom has the 632cl she had back in high school, and she’s been walking me through some of the common mistakes, like lighting and focus. I was tempted to get the now plus, because of the app and such, but seeing how those photos came out… just no.

    I think it's all about the light meter of these cameras and the fact that these films have a very little dynamic range (someone says 6 stops).
    In high contrast scenes it's very easy to clip highlights or shadows.
    Plus, the consistency between film batches is still not there, that some batches are way more contrasty and I some I also notice different exposure latitude plus shifts in color (that's quite common for us from the Impossible days)
    I make Tours with Polaroid cameras in Italy and I see the results that hundreds of Polaroid films deliver in a bunch of different conditions. We use Polaroid 600 cameras. What I can say from my experience is that films are always a variable (right now I'm using the 05/2022 film batch and it's insanely contrasty, very little dynamic range) and light meters of these cameras are everything but precise, usually the more even the light in the scene the better and smaller informations (like the text on the facade of the building) are very hard to render.
    Great channel Chris!
    Keep rocking!

      Ciao Francesco, presumo tu sia italiano e che ne sappia sicuramente più di me, quindi posso chiederti un consiglio? Volevo prendere per Natale a mia mamma una istante camera dato che si lamenta che purtroppo non sviluppiamo più foto da anni (e ha ragione). Mi serviva quindi qualcosa sui 150-180 euro, di facile utilizzo e con un carattere vintage. Sto quindi pensando a Polaroid Now, Now+ o Fujifilm Instax 300 o Square... Cosa mi consigli? Ti ringrazio 🙏🏼
      P.s: la mia idea originale era di prendere la Now+, ma c'è il discorso dell'esposizione a volte eccessiva...

      @@matteobusatto9758 la risposta è sempre, dipende.
      Probabilmente prenderei Fujifilm Square, tipo SQ6.
      La mini è troppo piccola, la Wide è una camera gigantesca.
      Polaroid la eviterei. Molto costose le pellicole e con un sacco di menate che con Fuji non hai.
      Fuji fa anche pellicole in bw quindi puoi anche sperimentare con quelle.

    I can see why you’re disappointed in the camera, although Polaroid also branded it was made for “experimentation” (interpret that how you will). For me, It’s more of a tripod + fiddle-with-the-settings camera than the standard Now. Indoors it’s worked fine for me too, but outside and in Point & Shoot conditions, I would go for a different camera purely because the Now + wasn’t really made for those situations. Cool video, keep up the good work 👍

I really wanted to get into Polaroid because my parents had one and I remember the photos being pretty good, and who doesn't like instant gratification. I now have 3 older Polaroid cameras, and have not gotten a decently exposed or focused photo out of any of them. I've gotten tack sharp and perfectly exposed shots out of the 1917 camera and my Lubitel 2 cameras, but never the Polaroids. I have half a pack in 2 of them, and that's probably where they'll stay. Polaroid film in general is pretty terrible when it comes to getting proper exposure. The Burger King photo that you used as reference you point out how the image isn't overexposed and the whites aren't blown out but you're completely ignoring the fact that your face and jacket that isn't directly in the sunlight is way underexposed. The entire side of your face is completely black and your jacket is so black that your arm isn't even visible. The Image only works because you knew to stand facing the sunlight, had you been facing the camera like most inexperienced people would have it would have looked terrible. At the end of the day I think it really all boils down to Polaroid needs to improve the quality of their film. The dynamic range of Polaroid is terrible compared to Instax and you should have to constantly be battling with the exposure to get a usable image.
