I have watched this Jan Svankmajer's "Alice in wonderland"=Czech Animation in Japan,certainly,about 30 years ago.....Now,in Japan,There are few Japanese who know this "J Svankmajer's Alice in wonderland"....It's very regrettable for me...but that is generation gaps,perhaps.....

Japanese people do not know about their own great film history, let alone masters like Svankmajer. Of course, this is no different from American, French, Russian, etc. We all forget about old masterpieces in every society.

They’re my cousins-they’re dad was my grandfather’s brother. All of us Quays are a bit morbid. They’re doing what they love and I don’t think any similarities bother them-but, yeah, they are the kings of nightmare stop motion 🥰

@Allison Chains I'm so thrilled to hear that! I like such morbid vision! I'm a bit fascinated by Robert Morgan works, but never heard about Brothers Quay. I'll check their movies definitely.

Jan Švankmajer kinda set the bar for this brand of animation, and yes the Quay's are highly influenced by his style. They made a short in 1984 giving tribute to Švankmajer's mastery of the artform called "The Cabinet of Jan Svankmajer"
