    After you catch the pinfish, how do you hook them to use as bait?

    • @NAUTILYFE
      @NAUTILYFE  4 месяца назад

      Great question! We do this a number of ways.
      One of our favorite ways is to use as cut bait in the hot Summer months when the fish are lazy - cut the head and tail off and trim the fins off top and bottom so it’s one streamline piece. Hook it through the back end where the tail was through both sides of skin and it’s good to go. Use a knocker rig with weight so it sits on bottom in one place so fish can find it.
      If we are using as live bait, there’s a couple different ways depending on fishing conditions. Fish will usually swim a certain way, depending on where they are hooked if you are casting and want to fish to swim down stream through a spot where predator fish are sitting facing the current, you want to hook them through the lips on the head. This will cause them to swim back towards the boat or shore and is a natural position for swimming with the current. If there isn’t a lot of moving water and you want the fish to swim under some structure like mangoes or a bridge hook them in the top of the back near the tail and that will cause them to swim down and away from you. If you want them to stay on the surface, usually on the bottom side of the tail will cause them to stay up in the water column and swim away.

    Those are Lane Snappers. 8 inches to keep. Mutton Snapper look similar with a little bit of blue striping on the head. 18 inches to keep those in Florida

      Yes figured that out later on, knew that about the blue for mutton and these had some under the eye so I was thrown off. Thanks for watching and the comment! Tight lines 🤙🏼🎣

    If that’s an 8 or larger biki, let it sit for a minute after you hook one! Those flys are big enough that when you have one hooked and thrashing, the other flys will dance and increase your chances of additional hook ups. Some of the lighter rigs will knot up, i use the larger ones for that reason.
    Great video! Thank you for sharing

      Good tip! Yes I like the longer Sabiki as well, this was one of the shorter ones. With these I’ve learned that the cat fish like them too and will destroy them haha. I will give that a shot next time I have one of the long ones! Thanks for watching 👍🏼🤙🏼

    Thanks for the recipe for the chum. I'm going to be trying it very soon in my pinfish trap. I can't help but to put in my .02 cents though. I think if you tried the sabiki where you had the chum going it would've been much better to catch bait. The snappers were lanes, you can tell by the yellow lines running down their bodies. I have one more observation/comment and it's about throwing the net. I use the same throwing style and I noticed you were throwing over the motors which makes it that much harder. That's where I would throw from considering I load my net on my left shoulder, so my idea is try putting the chum bag on the port side and throw from there. Hope you don't mind my comments and thanks again for the chum recipe!

      All good comments thanks for feedback! Yes on cast net I typically throw off front casting platform, tons of room but current was strong current that day and that’s where the chum was from the trap. Always want to throw it out where the chum has been. Works better with the dry chum. Will be doing another video on that soon. Thanks for watching and commenting, hope you will subscribe and chat again soon! Tigh lines 🤙🏼🎣

    New sub here, great idea on that chum. Have you ever tried it with the menhaden oil? Just curious.

      @@NAUTILYFE I’ve been researching ‘homemade chum’ and your video popped up, and I have a gallon on the menhaden oil already. I’m in the process of building traps and looking for a good bait recipe.
      Your channel content is awesome. Look forward to more. Stay on ‘em.

      @@slappinyachettv1094 appreciate the kind words! Definitely freeze the batches you make with the menhaden oil it’ll disperse more slowly and allow for better results IMO - go get em’!

      Appreciate it! It’s weird because it’s tail is all pink like a lane snapper but the dorsal fin, spot and blue under the eye/head shape are all mutton features. Maybe a mix of both? We have a screen grab on our instagram that shows it really good.

      That was the plan lol everything but the bait was biting the sabiki! Well till the end!
