But in recent years apparently not in the same backyard. China has been of the opinion that the US should mind its own business at home and let China do what it wants wherever it wants, and definitely not anywhere close to a shipping lane anywhere in Asia.
China today unlike in previous decades and between 1978-2012 is suddenly distrustful of the very world order that enabled China's prosperity because under Xi China wants to lay claims that existed historically prior to post WWII which is the arbitrary line current international law is based. The world order should be accepted because otherwise practically anyone can lay claim to anything. It's even been pointed out that Italy could lay claim to all of China based on Marco Polo's travels.

What is left unsaid is that early progress improving the lives of numerous Chinese was due to the residual effect of decades of policies before Xi. In 10 years, Xi has nearly completed dismantling those economic reforms that enabled China's economic rise to #2 in the world measured in GDP and today is a broken economy where 2023 can be considered a lost year and 2024 is shaping up to be the year of realization and utter collapse as currency reserves dry up and no longer is available as "rainy day funds" and export manufacturing's collapse hits new lows harkening back to pre-1978 levels.
Xi's rule is not a success and is threatening to be a collapse of epic and historic proportion.

When I used the social media as you mentioned above, more than once, I have seen some vulgar or pornographic personal videos, as well as extreme racial discrimination or bloody and violent remarks in some news (especially during the Palestinian-Israeli conflict). These are prohibited in China. If in China If you post pornographic and violent remarks on social media, you will be reported by netizens and may be sentenced to a fine or a more severe sentence.
But please don’t directly deny this “speech restriction” yet. Can you imagine that if your child receives pornographic and violent information prematurely, will it be beneficial to the child's development? If society is filled with racial discrimination, can society maintain stable development? Moreover, in the United States, if you make racist remarks, you will immediately receive death threats. Is this the so-called freedom of speech?

President Xi has delivered a heartwarming speech which focuses on PEOPLE instead of politics or economics ! No other world leaders have ever stressed the importance of PEOPLE! This is the basis the PRC is founded on! This is the ultimate responsibility of all world leaders: to better the lives of their people ! China is doing just that, successfully! It's never meddled in other countries. I hope American leaders could take some lessons from Mr. Xi's speech: care more about their own people instead of promoting hatred n division in all parts of the world which no doubt is only a lose lose situation! May our two peoples live in peace n prosperity with a shared future !❤❤❤❤

President Xi loved to take his entourage in an old bus to visit villages & towns around China during her early development. I saw these as a student in Beijing in 2004 & was a teacher there for 15 more years. He rarely gave advance notice as he wanted to see how local officials did their jobs & how they treated the people under them. He spent time talking to villagers and visited their homes wherever he went.
If none of you have ever visited or been to China, I highly recommend that you do. The more I hear of negative comments that are untrue , the more disgusted I feel. Most of our journalists have shallow or no knowledge of either China or Asian cultures & thinking.
Xi has been quite transparent with Biden during this & Bali’s APEC discussions. As to venues, they were all mutually agreed upon. Many of our politicians and journalists are really talking rubbish about optics. Their ignorance of diplomatic etiquette & true friendship are appalling. Their condescending comments are unqualified & utterly nitwitted !
I’m an American who has lived and worked in multiple cities in China over 15 years. Visited 170 cities in total. When I first arrived as a student in 2004, Beijing had many villages like Singapore where I grew up. Within a decade all villages were gone and high rise better quality housing, infrastructure were built & greatly improved. When I was there there were 3 subway lines. When I left a decade later for southern China, there are 23 subway lines. High speed rails were & still are built all across China, better than those in Japan & Europe where I too have lived. Everything is clean and things are managed better and better. People’s lives greatly improve each passing year. Most Chinese people are hardworking, willing to make sacrifices, & try hard to work efficiently to advance their country.
Under Xi, I saw the continual crackdown of corruptions. Gov officials are always held at a higher standard than ordinary people. If one is found to be corrupt or even have an inkling of any extra marital affairs, they are finished and jailed!! Poverty are greatly reduced. China is divided into Tier 1 to Tier 5 cities. By the time I left last year, China has begun developing and improving Tier 4 cities. The speed and determination of President Xi’s gov to develop & improve the entire country and his citizens lives are truly amazing.
China is now a capitalist-communist country. It is not a dictatorship. We have our Congress of 541 and they have their National People Congress of 2980. The difference between our system and China is that The People and The Country comes first. In ours, the politicians and their financial supporters come first. Too much infighting and bickering, our crime rates & homelessness have gone up while in China it’s low. When a country’s citizens live better lives, they become stronger, more creative and more willing to help others.

All these senseless regulations we board ourselves that we are a super power but heavily rely on other nations to build our nation. We do not accept the truth that what made our nation lazy buns that ask other nations to prepare our supplies. We confuse our pride that we work hard as our nation struggles to maintain. That's the reason why we should befriend other super powers to naturalize tension with stereotypical issues. Unless you want war and poverty if that's really on your preferences. Everything is expensive into what extent until super powers nation kills each other for wealth? It is better to draw lines to end those stereotypical ideology that neighboring countries are wolfs in sheep clothing. Are we all tired of comparing and competing? I think you need to take off your rose colored glasses and take a look at reality.
Chinese unemployment and particularly youth unemployment are at astounding highs... likely well over 50%. Export manufacturing is down approximately 20% which is probably the nation's primary source of national income supporting everything else. Real Estate Development which comprises an estimated 1/3 of total national GDP is stagnant. Retailers both brick and mortar as well as online have disappeared or are taking heavy losses. Foreign capital inflow is practically zero and practically all foreign owned business has long left and the only ones left are the ones that can't leave. Domestic discretionary consumption is practically zero which means that practically anything that's optional like buying cars is now dependent heavily on subsidies and discounts making every item sold a net loss to the economy.
There is no prosperity in China today and peace may be the next casualty. Already there is stirring unrest which has to make the CCP uneasy.

@@tonysu8860 Chinese are not motivated by profit. Americans need to see the bigger picture. All the solutions Americans focus mostly on are usually short term profts. The Chinese look at the long term outlook. They sacrificed for the last 50 years for the future to put their economy in a better position to be more influential at the international level.
Much is the same for their development of Green Technology. It doesn't generate profit immediately, but it is technology that will be profitable later, it also is logical as it reduces carbon footprint. It's what will save the world. Who cares if it's American made or Chinese made. The reason why it is Chinese made is because the American fossil fuel industry has worked hard to suppress green tech from replacing them. The corporate lobbies are too powerful against the small entrepreneur from competing. This is the modern time's version of Galileo's battle of science vs religion. We have greed vs innovation.
If the Chinese economy did collapse and America remains dominant as many want to happen. How will the US deal with climate change? Their track record has been horrible. The fossil fuel industry has worked hard to discredit climate change, historically American businesses have a terrible track record of embracing new trends that benefit humanity. The Chinese will develop this technology faster than the US and it could save humanity. It's almost like the US has adopted the mindset that nothing can save humanity and we must focus on curbing global population to extend the life of humanity.
They have lost faith in humanity. Or is it more of the mega rich afraid their power is dwindling? Or is it because most of them are very old and fear death? Fear of God for all the selfishness they have done most of their lives?
It's a constant cycle of short term solutions that focus on profits. Quick results with a unwanted side effect. Then another solution with more side effects. Sugar industry get rich off fast food, soda and snacks? Pharmacutical solutions for more profit. Drug addicts occurring in society? Militarization of law enforcement. Too much defense spending? Export defense industry for other governments to use for payment for more profit.
This is why America feels like a police state, obsesity, disease, addiction, income inequality and a unhappy, divided public. When will the leaders wake up? San Francisco was ugly before these leaders held a event there. America needs real change. Learn some lessons from the Chinese. They don't have tent encampments and homeless addicts in their cities.
The consequence of this is the American public have no power in their government anymore, only the rich have the power. We have reached a point in society, where its obvious the US government doesn't care about their public. The Chinese government do care about their public. The comparison reveals the difference. Chinese public's lives improving, while American public's lives are deteriorating.

Without abandoning and rethinking on such aggressive and assertive guidelines, US-Chna relations will be difficult.Although Monroe doctrine was established centuries ago,.it was hold in dear hearts by Anglo-Saxonism elites, and supported by average American by default, although they didn't realize such fact and not even mention such thing in their day to day lives.

This is just absurd if one to start look at history dimension, one thing US politicians and refuse to do, average American public are not interested at all unless they are put into the situation like flying tigers and their descendants. If Communication can improve relations and reduce negativity and even hostility, US politicians and media have lots of things to work on to reverse their negative narratives on China.

The US has been pushing hard for a detente this past year and sent a parade of envoys to China starting with the Blinken trip which was so ill received and viewed by China as a US attempt to scold China.
This speech by Xi was well crafted but the last minutes revealed that China may not wish to change its foreign policy regarding territorial disputes. China will have some time to think about whether and what might change. The US will be prepared for whatever decisions China makes.

So what is the long-term goal ? Decoupling trade with China, or build up a more favorable environment for business between US and China as what this video is trying to achieve ? Seems to me the message is very conflicting even to us, let alone China trying to read between the lines.

China lifted 800 million of its population out poverty, it doesn't happened in history. The Chinese people are enjoying their life very well, but look at the west now people are fighting each other, gun violence, racial discrimination, injustice everywhere. China has now the power to resist the west. It's both economically and militarily powerful to safeguard it's interest.
