    Often personal finance youtubers (including myself), will show an example of investing combined with compound interest, about how if you invest a certain amount into an index fund (such as one that tracks the s&p 500) over a long period of time, you will be able to retire a millionaire. However, usually we do not account for inflation. Once we account for inflation, it becomes apparent that $1 million will not be worth all that much in 40 years time. In this video i show example of ho much we should really be investing to be able to enjoy a comfortable retirement in the future.

    Good video. One thing I wish you talked about is if the money invested is what you will be drawing from or if you are going to be living off of dividends. I feel like there is a difference between the two methods.

    Not big on the whole inflation issue because it all depends what you buy, not all things go up the same rate. Plus more than likely you'll have no mortgage and less expenses when you retire. The bigger issue most people need to think about is taxes. A million tax free is awesome (Roth 401k/IRA) but so many people have traditional 401ks and the taxes will eat some of that away.

    Great video! But according with the Fisher formula the "real" return is (1+i) / (1+inflation) - 1 --> So a 10% percent return you substracted a 3% inflation equals 1,1 / 1,03 - 1 = 6,8% real return, so in 35 years you'll have $804k.
    However, I consider a 4% inflation more likely to occur in the future, so a 10% return decrease to 1,1 / 1,04 - 1 = 5,77% real return --> In 35 years equals to 647k in buy power of now in the future.

    Great video! Is this the same as determining the present value of one million dollars in x number of years using a wacc/discount factor? is inflation incorporated in the wacc formula or discount factor?

    Nice video! 😁 Many people don't factor in inflation and how it erodes the purchasing power of a currency while making investments. Really nice that you touched this topic!

    What if the stock market is just the opposite the next 40 years as it was the last 40 years? Dont worry though. The world will end by the 2060s anyway most likely.

      I bet Jesus is coming back in 2060. Quite possible given how all world leaders are behaving. Hope Trump will be there to receive Jesus in 2060. Together they can do wonders.
