Fun fact, if you played this game on the gameboy advance and you rage turn off the game it deletes your progress and you have to start over. Little me took a long time to beat this game.
Yeah that's why I charge it while it's Idle & I'm not using it it's really the only other way to complete it in more than 1 day I think what took me the longest was collecting stars for stuff like the boo house etc but the boss that really ticked me off was probably the pyramid section & blooper just difficult & same with the ice section fun fact: if you hit the penguins twice each they die I used that to help going to the other screens is irritating I wish they had an item to extend the pipe I beat this game a few times it's fun when you achieve it but irritating to play throughout I feel accomplished but think if a game over made you lose your star count!
Mario didn’t have to become a ball in this game. He’s not cursed, this isn’t a strange land that he needs to be a ball to maneuver through, he’s just choosing to make this harder for himself.
He’s had so many adventures to stop Bowser, he was just like “Y’know what? Let’s make this more interesting.” And then just casually becomes s p h e r i c a l
It’s funny that he says “tilting” so much, seeing as Pinball is where the term came from. “Getting Tilted,” “Hitting Full Tilt,” and “Tilting” all came from the term Pinball machines used when there was too much movement on the machine. It was an anti-cheating measure to make sure no one was shaking the machine or tilting it to maneuver the ball, and when it detected too much tilt, the machine would shut off and display “TILT” on the light up screen, indicating that it caught you cheating and would eat your money. Much like Vending Machines, people would get mad they were losing and try to shake or tilt the machine, only for it to fully cut off and they would be forced to rage quit and walk away mad. That’s why we have the term.
Its funny that tilting is now such an essential part of playing pinball games. Its like they knew its bs when you lose on a real machine to factors outside your control, so they just throw you a bone and let you save what would be a guaranteed loss.
@@Emberson-9000 Not to be an "um actually" kind of guy but tilting in pinball terms is just when you get too many warnings and end up losing the ball. The term for slapping the machine is called nudging, but you're absolutely right, it's an essential part of competitive pinball! The fun thing is how modern pinball machines are now fully aware and of this concept and are actually using it in some rulesets, such as rewarding you at points with extra tilt warnings for instance. A bit of a tangent and not related but I still find it really interesting!
In the climbing games, you learn how to control the character and get better. Here, you bang your head against the wall until it works. That is why this is the kids game.
Hell yeah, Shin Megami Tensei Pinball: Judgment!! The 2006 pinball spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner for flip phones that is currently lost media! 🥴
@@ArshadZahid_nohandleideas Unironically, I’ve accidentally never heard about that till now. This sounds really cool though, so thank you for teaching me something new today!! I can’t believe Atlus had not one, but two different phone games based on one of their franchises that came out in the 2000s and is now considered lost media.
The Pinball sub game in Kirby Mass Attack was unironically superior to the actual Kirby’s Pinball Land game from the 90’s on the Game Boy. I’m actually sad they never made a Deluxe version like they did with the Sub Games of Triple Deluxe.
watching someone else play this after the quite literal years of my childhood trying to beat this game is hilarious, and after finally beating it I don't have a single memory of ever going back to it afterwards that being said this video makes me want to play it again lol
Sonic Pinball? Yeah that makes sense. Kirby Pinball? Yeah, that makes sense. Pokémon Pinball? Yeah, that makes sense. Mario Pinball? What were they thinking?
this is what happens when a pinball developer refuses to use scrolling-screen playfields on a portable game. thankfully their DS efforts (Metroid Prime Pinball / DSiware The Ancients Beckon) could take advantage of a great screen format for the genre
This is one of the only Mario games I’ve actually played and more importantly completed. I don’t think I’ve ever heard another person even mention this game before which is sad because I played so much of it as a kid. Notably, I actually did not understand the mechanics at all, I made it through with pure dedication to the art of ballin’
same, I actually remember beating this game while I was supposed to be going to sleep but was hiding under my blanket as a kid, I think I spend about a hour just trying to beat bowser till I got to the final phase and just the moment you realize its not over yet you just kind of panic and try to figure out what the game wants lol
This seems like the kind of game where you constantly feel like you must be missing some sort of important mechanic, but eventually you realize even if there was it wouldn't help because it's just that janky
This game honestly feels even more tilting than games like Getting Over It just because it's fucking Mario. This is not a game made to get you made. This is Mario. A game series meant for kids. And it's beating your ass. That's mentally destroying.
I decided to race this game with a friend after watching Jo play. I gained a significant lead through most of the game... but then I hit Bowser. I could not do it. I blew a thirty minute lead because that final boss is the most tilting thing I have ever experienced.
Jo is watching and cackling to himself in pleasure that you have to deal with this god forsaken game as well. I sat though all the Plus/Deluxe/Gold videos just for him to give up on the finally boss and I respect him for it.
I will never forget finding my old cartridge after a long absence, loading it up and pressing continue. ...and finding myself infront of the final boss room. And watching helplessly as Mario immediately falls. Straight down. Room after room, after room, after room. All the way back to the start. I threw my Gameboy to the side and put my head in my hands and cried. It had undone so much progress my child self had accomplished. It happened so fast.
I can’t in good conscience call this game bad. The presentation is slick as hell with AMAZING art and 3D work on GBA, almost every song is a banger (the boss themes are great, Under The Ice is a classic, and it’s helped by the songs that sample Hooked On A Feeling and Culex’s theme, and even the Yoshi bonus theme that sounds like Darkness Of The Unknown?!), and once you ARE able to land your shots, everything you do feels like a dopamine shot straight into the brainstem. That said, this IS a ragegame. I played it as a kid, and although I did eventually beat it, it put me through HELL. Beware.
If I had a nickel for every time a world leading video game mascot starred in a brutally difficult pinball based video game, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice
After watching this game on Good, I also thought “oh this looks fun. Why is Jo stressing?”. I played it all the way through and I would like to apologize to Jo for thinking he was anything other than a gamer with Ghandi like patience
I remember beating this game ONLY because a long road trip became longer when my parents found out every hotel in the town we were going to stay in was booked, so we ended up driving for another HOUR. How I ever beat this cursed game at age 10 feels like a fever dream
Remember in Mario 64 where star 1 made you kill a bunch of guys, and then star 2 had you kill a bunch of guys, and then for star 3 you had to go into a different room and then kill a bunch of guys?
Kinda interesting how this game seems to be themed after Mario 64 dispite releasing in 2004 the coins have stars in them some tree assets are from Mario 64 and the font used is the same as Mario 64

Yeah, but imagine that, but it can stun you in the air... huh, I wonder how that would play like...
yeah, I guess the better analogy would be if Bowser broke Mario's kneecaps with a crowbar every 20 seconds
Looks like you can stop him from doing the stun move by hitting him, at least... not that that makes it all that much better.
