This series, it's striking a balance between the original Frank books, the Brian books, and the Villeneuve films. A very difficult task and so far they're kind of pulling it off. As usual we have weirdo book purists nitpicking details but that's expected for any book series adapted into the screen
Ironic, since most of the books this is based on had almost no Frank Herbert influence. General consensus is that they diverged massively from his original ideas.
@@brilobox2 When I say "weird purists," I'm referring to people like you. Are you seriously suggesting that the concepts, settings, characters, and ideas from Frank Herbert's original books have no influence on Brian Herbert's works at all? How does that even make sense? Are Brian Herbert's books supposed to be a completely separate universe that just coincidentally includes Dune, the Atreides, the Harkonnens, and so on?
This is a surprisingly good balance between what the Original Series Only fans want, and what the fans of the prequel books were hoping for. I’m shocked that they pulled this off (so far).
Agreed. It's the first and only adaptation of anything Dune related that directly referenced the God Emperor. Huge kudos for the show for doing that in the first episode.
The sisters began as helpers, but foresaw a Tyrant who would endanger them. In response they developed ways to combat the Tyrant. So when Paul rolls around (in large part due to their actions), they are already pre positioned to be a threat to him that he now has to deal with. It could have gone an entirely different way, and had them foresee him Uniting everyone with them at his side, and they would have worked towards that... But there's a sense that Paul's... Future? is so necessary that it is pushing events.
@@MrFredstt Dune is kind of about cyclical things, everything Rhymes if you are George Lucas who "was inspired" by it. I think youre missing one important thing about Kasha and that is she situated herself as the Mom/Wife without actually being so....the sisters use EVERY method to control the men at their posts, including satisfying ALL their needs and making themselves indispensable in EVERY way. So Kasha is emotional BECAUSE shes taken over the role the Mom/Wife HAD and its made her attached to them and the mom/wife character very bitter.
Watch Vikings, or at least the first 4 seasons of Vikings. That's Travis Fimmels most iconic role as Ragnar lothbrok. Amazing character and actor. He was also in another great sci fi series called Raised by Wolves on Max but it unfortunately got canceled after the 2nd season.
IKR?! 🤣 I was waiting for Mark Strong's character to ask him "Have you ever heard of a man called Ragnar Lothbrok? You remind me of him from my history studies about the Sagas from ancient Scandinavia."
Dune and Terminator show us how sentient machines are a threat to humanity, whereas WALL·E and The Wild Robot show us that, maybe that wouldn’t be so bad for the rest of the universe. If you want a franchise that can balance both, play Horizon: Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West.
You have no idea how many easter eggs this series has for me, who has been a Dune reader since I was 20 years old. By the way, Jaby, I've been watching your videos for 10 years.
It was an okay opening i do wish the music and visuals were more attention catching. After arcane and penguin being 10/10. I need a little more drom the show.

@@lokithecat7225 yeah, but this ain't Giedi Prime. They're showing Lankiveil. That's where they farm the whales. In the Dune books they still have it but given to the cadet Harkonnen Branch, the Rabbans.
The Sisterhoods breeding program was later taken away from them and continued by God Emperor Leto Atreides. The Truth is a three sided blade, your side, there side and the truth of what is realy happening.
Love seeing Travis Fimmel on the screen again. One of my favourite actors since Vikings. He just has this special way of acting and aura on screen.

I love the actor they chose for desmond hart and he’s playing the role awesome already.
He was in raised by wolves which was an interesting show but he plays i think a similar role
He plays Ragnar Lothbrok in Vikings.
Actors name is Travis Fimmel.😀🤩

If I was Mark Strong's character I would've made sure Kasha would've fulfilled the wife role. In the bedroom.
Wait......she was.....you know with the Emperor?

I took the mirror images as false reflections of truth among truth sayers. As though it’s saying they can’t see the lies all around them.
Travis Fimmel just be Ragnar in every role he plays... and I'm here for it.
IKR?! 🤣 I was waiting for Mark Strong's character to ask him "Have you ever heard of a man called Ragnar Lothbrok? You remind me of him from my history studies about the Sagas from ancient Scandinavia."
Now we just need Katherine Winnick to play one of the queens of one of the houses.
Hopefully after watching Travis Fimmel in this show they’ll watch Vikings.🤞🤞
It is awesome they are using this show to address the rift between the Atreides and Harkonnen that started during the Butlerian Jihad.
PAUL IS NOT A HERO!!! HE'S THE VILLIAN OF THE STORY! UGGGH!

In the books the machine war is called the Butlerian JIHAD. You can see why the show wasn’t gonna call it that.
Yeah lamo
That’s epic when she made that noise

I love Travis Fimmel's work, but I felt like he was repeating the same character he played in raised by wolves.
My question is where are the Mentats? They were established right after the war with the Thinking Machines to replace them.
Good point, was this established in the original books or prequels, I’m not sure
I’m thinking Desmond Hart is one and/or a Ghola Hayt. The way he was twitching and his crazy eyes.
Dune reminds me of Star Wars 😂😂
Cobra kai season 6 episode 10👍👍...so epic !!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Apparently we've Retconned the Harkonenns to be diverse, instead of Pale Pasty people from a wonky "Black sun" planet.
During this time they only own a snow planet. They get giedi prime much later

Please give the Star Trek franchise a chance on your channel.
Star Trek is on the calendar for year 2040 just be patient
Travis Fimmel plays the same role in another SUPERB scifi epic series- RAISED BY WOLVES season One and Season Two are out!
You should check out Travis in Vikings. (Probably not for the channel but in your own time) Lol He is outstanding.
I liked the "struggle", maybe thats not the right word, or lack of mastery of the voice that is shown in dune 10000 years later
