- Hey guys! We started using Fix It! Grammar this year for my 5th grader and we have really enjoyed this as part of our curriculum. In fact, we plan to continue using it next year and with future kiddos as well.
Today I am sharing a walk through of Fix It! Grammar: The Nose Tree, which is the first volume. Please let me know if you have any additional questions!

So helpful!

Awesome! You're welcome!
I really REALLY appreciated this review! I've been considering this curriculum after seeing recommendations from other reviews, however I wanted to know more details. You gave me all the details! Thank you, thank you SO much!
I'm so glad it was helpful. Sometimes being able to see the curriculum is huge!
thank you so very much, this was very helpful.
Thank you so much for sharing. :) We love the this program! However, we adapted it for our needs/time of course. We do all correction of grammar in the week's sentences in one day, but do not re-write it as a paragraph. Instead, we use that time for dictation of things that might have been misunderstood that day, etc. For example, if my son was confused about which number of a division problem was the divisor, I would have him write "The smaller number in a division problem is called the divisor"...with an example, labeled. We already utilize a handwriting curriculum as well.
I love your adaptation to this program. It's just another reason I love homeschooling. You made the curriculum work for you, not the other way around. And you're right - the 4 days of sentences could easily be done in one day if you wanted. We've done that a time or two! Or we've done 2 sentences a day and wrapped it up in two days. I also like the idea of using copy work for what is pertinent to each individual kid. That's a great idea!
Thank you for the video. I've heard you have to start at the first book. Do you think that's accurate? I would like to start with my almost 5th & 8th grader. Thank you, God bless.
I don't think there would be any harm starting with the first book and moving on from there especially if the kids have not had a lot of experience in identifying all the different parts of speech in sentences. I have found that it is easy to knock out a couple sentences a day, if necessary. (Sometimes even more!) So if your older kiddo found it easy and wanted to move at a faster speed, he or she could always do that too!
Is this level suitable for 4th grader who as used ABeka thru 2nd then Easy Grammar? It looks like her level. Language is not her strongest subject!
Honestly, I had a struggling 4th grade reader/writer/speller and we decided to wait until 5th grade to start Fix It! Grammar. It moves kind of fast. WIth that said, I have heard they have re-done Levels 1 & 2 for Fix It Grammar and added a level in between the old Levels 1 and 2. So maybe this will help with that!? I plan to try Fix-It with my son (5th grade) next year using the new books!
SO if they dont understand something do they get help from the program?
No, there is no instructional videos or online help center, as far as I know. The parent has an answer key and they can correct and answer any questions the child might have.
Hi! This was so helpful. We are starting the next week, and this gave me a great overview! Thank you.
I'm glad you found the video helpful. I hope the curriculum worked well for you and your family!
You have the best curriculum walk through that I have seen! Thank you
Wow, thank you! I really appreciate that compliment!
Great flip through! Doesn't look overwhelming, but thorough. 💕💕
Thank you! I agree with your assessment. It's not overwhelming but covers all aspects of grammar thoroughly through small bite size pieces.
This was sooooo helpful! Thank you! Mine is in the mail I can’t wait to get started!!!!
Glad you found it helpful! I hope you guys find it to be a good fit for your family!
This was such a helpful video. I have an upcoming 5th grader, 6th grader, and 9th grader. I was wondering where I should start with each child. Now I’m positive I will start with the first book for all three of my children. My oldest will just work through the book at a much quicker speed than everyone else. I just ordered the first 3 student books and teacher books in this series. This video was the icing on the cake for me. Thank you so much for sharing it.
I'm glad you found it to be helpful! I like the idea of doing them altogether but at different speeds. Might be a sanity saver for you, too, to only be doing one level at a time! :)
So how did Level 1 of Fix It Grammar go for your 9th grader? I am thinking of starting my 9th grader in level one since she is easily overwhelmed with the language of Grammar and struggles to understand and remember what everything means. Just curious how it went for you. @nikki9880
Can I ask what you were using before you started Fix It?
We were in a Classical Conversations co-op that used EEL - Essentials of the English Language.
What grade is book 1 good for?
According to IEW's website, the first level of Fix It! Grammar could be used anywhere from 3rd to 5th grade. I have not started my kids on it until 5th grade. Personally, I cannot imagine my 3rd graders being able to label the parts of speech for each word in each sentence! But if I"m honest, grammar probably is not our strongest subject, either. So I suppose that would ultimately depend on your child and their strengths!
Thank you for the review. Would this be suitable for a 3rd grader?
From what I've researched, I believe they have designed the curriculum to start in 4th grade.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Do you use this for your main Language Arts or a supplement?
My oldest uses Fix-It Grammar in conjunction with The IEW writing program, which we absolutely love!!!
Which IEW writing? There are Sooo many
@@therestoredmomabundantmoth4396 there’s a decision tree on their website
This was really helpful! Thank you!
