Thanks for sharing this. We tried fix-it-grammar at the beginning of this school year for my 8th grade daughter and after less than 6 weeks had to put it down. She is a bright girl but I couldn’t believe how many errors she had. We switched to Easy Grammar grade 6. I think after really covering the basics now we will try fix-it again this coming school year.

Fix it Grammar does better and makes more sense when you pair it with Structure and Style.

Thank you for sharing! We are trying to figure out what to do for english for next school year and are going to use HOD Revival to Revolution next year as well. What lead you to use Fixit grammar vs Rod and Staff recommend by HOD with your boys instead? Thanks!

We tried Rod and Staff at the beginning of the year. It is a solid curriculum but not what we are use to. I felt like we were getting more review and it is easier to follow with Fix It. 😉

This was helpful. Thank you! My middle school boys will be using Fix It Grammar for the first time next year (8th grade). Somehow, I missed the cards. Do you think they're necessary?

I am very glad I have them and have pulled them out to help review, but not all the time. 😉

Do your boys write down the vocab words & definitions? Where do they write it?

We actually don’t, it is just something else I have to keep up with. My teen has dictionary on phone and for my younger the words have seemed like ones he know😉

We are doing FixIt Grammar for the first time and boy oh boy, when IEW suggests to start *any* student at Level 1 regardless of age, they mean it! OurHOMESchoolPlan just talked about this and I sat there beet red, embarrassed, and super guilty. It progresses much quicker between lessons in the higher levels than the lower ones so if your child doesn't have a good grasp on the basics, they may easily founder when confronted with the deeper aspects. Your child might do OK, but others don't.
Just a friendly piggyback on this for anyone interested 😊

Yes it is true, I mentioned that I know middles schoolers who started in book 1. My son had done grammar and was comfortable with it, but at the same time i may repeat the book because I don’t know if he is ready to jump up to the next level😉. I am sorry you went through this!! My second son struggled with grammar even up into Highschool, and it took some trial and error to figure out what would work. Each child will be different.
