@@hoppercar much appreciated thanks. My dream is to restore the locomotive to operation. If the Union Pacific can restore a big boy, maybe can I don’t know. All we can do is dream
It’s a shame 610 isn’t in working order. A former excursion star deserves better. At least she still is in a somewhat good condition even if she isn’t moving under her own power.
Is it possible that I can use this video for my documentary about the Southern Railway Steam Program? I will credit you in the description. Thanks in advance~Joseph
This is from an old reel to reel film my father showed me as a child. I’m not sure who made it. My father transferred it to VHS and then I transferred it to DVD and digital. Not sure who you should credit. I can’t take credit.
Why am.I.hearing a whistle, and seeing no steam ??.....god I hate this crappy dubbed in stuff...then.just the opposite, I see steam, and hear no whistle...but worst of all, the exhaust beats dont.match.the wheel rotation
The 610 was and is a magnificent engine. I love her whistle!
I love steam double heading
Ok but like can we talk about this dope a** music playing in the back? 😂
I know, it takes me back to 70s porn movies! 😂
I used to have a copy of this film on super 8, .I don't remember who it was that was selling the copies. Cool to see it again.
0:18 610 almost sounds like SSW 819 in 1988.
No joke, and 11 years before the Cotton Belt returned to steam no less!
I hope that she will run again. 610 is my favorite steam locomotive
I don't see that happening
Not very likely

I believe she was the only Texas type in excursion service right?
Yes. She however wasn’t a speed locomotive. Her top speed was 35 mph because her pilot wheel had numerous problems

Dude, you didn’t have to post the title from one of my videos!
I love 610, but Jesus Southern Railway was rough on her whistle.
The whistle sounds squeaky in several spots. Or maybe that’s just me
Bill must have had the 610 up to 45 mph at least
You mean W. Graham Claytor Jr. right
@@rogerlollar4325 I thought Bill was engineer that day. I’ll have to check out the excursion book for more info
I wonder if they would have let the 610 go up Saluda mountain
I'm digging the porno vibes from this background music. Really underscores that it was 1977.

They had to make do with the limitations back then.
