Marcus plays with young artists, same as Miles Davis did when he was his age (58 year old). When Marcus was 27, he was producer of Miles' Tutu. Giving such opportunities to young people shows real selflessness and character of these two artists.
This is sooooooo beautiful!!!! Marcus is one of the few that TRULY understands what music is all about. No disrespect to others at all. Was listening to his work with George Benson and Earl Klugh on 1987's (86?) "Collaboration". Sublime. "Groove Setter" indeed!
Marcus Miller is such a legend!! I saw him live at Lincoln Center in 2019 where he did a set filled with cuts from Miles Davis's electric jazz fusion period. That show was 🔥
Marcus is a musicans study tool . The guys knows music all styles . Great guy in person and does not have a big head . Hats off to you Marcus Miller . Blessings!
In Africa, music is actually meant for everyone and to be inclusive. Ain't that cool in comparison to all the marketing giants in the music industry treating musicians like race horses instead of learning to sit back and appreciate real art.
@@LOOMING_WRAITH_OF_BAD_OMEN We all have something to do with it. If you treat other countries as source of raw materials, cheap labour force and as a waste land, it becomes "a massive shithole", as you said.
This video not only looks good, but the sound is killer. I can hear a lot more midrange from Marcus' bass than usual. I want to hear him play that Musicman, that's new.
When the trumpeter first started his solo, I wasn't looking at the screen and thought for a second it was Roy Hargrove. Whoever he is, that guy is good.
This is such a great video for both the amazing musicianship and the cool historical context that he shares. Great work to the whole band. Nice playing from everyone especially Marcus!
Usually I just want to listen to Marcus Miller and be in awe of his bass playing, but this stuff is fantastic jazz no matter who's playing it. The drumming and sax-playing are phenomenal and the sound is right on...the grit of that Jazzmaster six-string is a wonderful touch. I could listen to this all day. Thanks, Marcus.
+George Christiansen Ain't that the truth. CD recordings generally blow. Totally compressed nonsense that kills the dynamics and thus the music. Studios could learn a lot from RUclips and folks like Boyce Avenue who put out some freaking incredible mixes.
+Utha Man You mean as opposed to vinyl? CD has a way higher dynamic range than vinyl, you can get amazing mixes on CD. It all depends on who's mixing/mastering.
Guided here by Scott Devine. Now I've listened to this vid, oh, 20 times in a few days. This is really terrific stuff. Now ordered a couple of Marcus's CDs. Looking forward to getting them. :-)
a tiny video editing mistake @ 3:59 The Drummer is playin' a rim click but in de vid its a normal beat on the snare, only 5 seconds, no problem, but very jocular ;)
point of correction marcus, highlife originated from Ghana not Nigeria they came to Ghana to learn "western music" also known as Highlife. thank you guys for inculcating our culture into your music
Un mélange de couleurs africaine et de slap USA, toujours aussi performant il va de plus en plus vers un niveau difficile à atteindre. Take care Marcus
Son of Macbeth is pure delight Miller's Fender Jazz bass, 2x Ebs proline 4x10", Marcus reknown taste and technique: how ever could you just go wrong? Cheers, Claudio
To describe Marcus Miller's musicianship precisely would require the addition of a new word that extends beyond excellence! I must carefully and humbly say that he and Nathan East are my sources of inspiration. Not that I have heard all Marcus has to offer, but really! Why is there so much left in the tank each time I encounter Miller's music? Thanks Dunlop!
I always liked watching Marcus on stage in Rotterdam, but this is another highlight of his career and a really outstanding performance of these talented guys. It has got as much fascinating rhythmic power as it has got beautiful melodic elements. Excellent music. Thanks so much for uploading.
It's not my thing. A few things I like but some of its a bit weird. I have that feeling about alot of Jazz type stuff though. I like to play it though.
Everyone has his own taste in music. You cant just say the emotional value someone gets from this music is non-existant, for evey genre of music someone will just love it no matter what.
SOMEHOW this music relaxes me at the same time as grabbing ALL my attention unlike a LOT of other music: think that says enough for it! And I LOVE metal but it DOES NOT RELAX! NOWAY man!
+Martin chacon ..and like a GREAT as opposed to GOOD cook, chef or whatever he's judicious in his arrangements to not OVERDO the singing (e.g.) or anything else so the music, like a good recipe, is balanced & never cloying, BORING, or too repetative in a department. It all comes together in new ways throughout the composition the way a wine or appetizer go with or compliment a main course.
Great live session. Marcus, the drummer and keys are so locked in. The guitarist, however, looks and sounds like he is very nervous. What do you guys think?
***** Not necessariy nervous, but a bit tense. That might just be his style of playing, guessing by the way he does vibrato for instance. Also: it must be extremely hard to play guitar in a band with lead bass, brass and keys.
No, sadly I don't have the answer to that, but why exactly do you want to know considering your channel name is "OrgSolutionscom Marketing Digital Consulting"?
So, Marcus went to bits of here and bits of there and then went back home where he 'didn't wanna do something that could be done so much better by original and authentic musicians but take that feeling." W...? Thanks a bundle.
Marcus plays with young artists, same as Miles Davis did when he was his age (58 year old). When Marcus was 27, he was producer of Miles' Tutu. Giving such opportunities to young people shows real selflessness and character of these two artists.
And he played for Miles Davis when he was 19...
and Marcus doesn't beat his wife and peer pressure everyone around him to do heroin
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

Sax man is killing it! :)
The Master of All Trades
Hipster Keanu Reeves on the guitar is such a good player.
Lol
in god we thrust!!::))0
George Moss That's disturbing, do you happen to mean trust, because thrusting is something entirely different.
I love how Marcus is putting young musicians in his band.
Very talented young musicians. In that way Marcus is like Frank Zappa whose band (school?) launched many a career.
Marcus is a musicans study tool . The guys knows music all styles . Great guy in person and does not have a big head .
Hats off to you Marcus Miller . Blessings!

TheBassGojira it's probably the strings playing a part too... a lot of DR strings to me have like absolutely no midrange, that's why I don't like them
sc45470 What kind o strings do you prefer sc??
TheBassGojira True, he sounds particularly good and less scooped than usual. Pure awesomeness in that tone.
Miguel Alejandro Vergara
That's it. I'm gettin some Dunlops for my Jazz.
Michael Fairbanks I'll do the same for my Warwick :)
White Jay-Z killing it on keys
+nZymes LOL White Jay-Z
Hahhahahaha!
Lmbo!!
Funny! Everyone in the band is in a t-shirt or rolled up sleeves, guitarist is dressed like he's about to climb Kilamanjaro.
Maybe he had a fever or something.
Who is the hell would dislike this video? SMDH . . .
I love Marcus Miller's legacy.
This is like a user guide: How to Make Love with the Music?
Maja Redzic Brilliant observation!!!!!!!!!
Fantastique Marcus Miller ! Miles Davis et lui,ce n'est pas un hasard ! Bravo !!
Alex Han for President!!! Louis Cato for Minister of Riddim! Brett for Minister of Cool!
Marcus - Emperor Groove Setter for Life!
5 people are currently repurposing their basses into coffee tables. :P
Just found Marcus Miller tonight. Holy smokes! Is ALL his stuff this good?!
+Ian Devlin Yes.
Not only that - he's also killer on bass clarinet.
All his stuff...
YES! He is a true musician his talent comes through in what ever he plays.
No. Most of it is BETTER. :-/
listening to this piece over and over again, keeps my heart pumping.
No Marcus!!!!! Don't "unswing the bridge"!!! Miles would say "let it swing " (raspy voice).
only marcus could take a wooden box with sheepskin and a broom handle, and try play slap bass on it
I didn't know Jesus played guitar
+Andres Mollejas They say that about every guitar player with long hair and a beard.
If you want to see a real Jesus playing guitar, you should go check Guthrie Govan out! :D
+Bertram Hasselager Besides the fact that Jesus was the color of Chocolate Milk, Luther Beckett is absolutely right
Andres Mollejas.
i needed that laugh right there
When the trumpeter first started his solo, I wasn't looking at the screen and thought for a second it was Roy Hargrove. Whoever he is, that guy is good.
Lee Hogan… I agree he’s mad!
Isn't the production crew overdoing the lens flare a little bit? At some moments there's like a good 10-15 seconds of staring into a lightbulb.
This is such a great video for both the amazing musicianship and the cool historical context that he shares. Great work to the whole band. Nice playing from everyone especially Marcus!

what is the title of the third song ?? Its very fun and make me sway!!
It might be Son of MacBeth? Look at the listing below the video and check out the songs.
Sorry to hear his affiliation with UNESCO.
The beginning of the first one, Hylife, reminds me of Under The Bridge by RHCP
I wish the album mix was this good.
+George Christiansen
Ain't that the truth. CD recordings generally blow. Totally compressed nonsense that kills the dynamics and thus the music. Studios could learn a lot from RUclips and folks like Boyce Avenue who put out some freaking incredible mixes.
Utha Man it's not necessarily that it is compressed too much, but it sounds like smooth jazz production, which I hate.
+Utha Man You mean as opposed to vinyl? CD has a way higher dynamic range than vinyl, you can get amazing mixes on CD. It all depends on who's mixing/mastering.
+samcooke343 Agree. Most heavily compress the CD mix and squeeze the life out of the music.
Way to talk to your keyboards Brettt!!!!!
6:12 "The Lick" spotted!!
hahahaha
Also at 4:44-46, not exactly but really similar
everything sounds so perfect... yes once again Marcus drop a awesome new album... Feel so excited to see him live next week at Brussels !
അതി മനോഹരം.................!
Wow a I hear about is Wooten but this is my first time hearing Marcus and I'm must say he sounds better. Not as flashy but the music moves me more.
Agree. My uncle turned me on to Marcus Miller, I’ve heard some Victor Wooten, he’s great but I prefer Marcus.
I wish to hear Stairway to Heaven played by Jazz people...It would go over 3 days...
Guided here by Scott Devine. Now I've listened to this vid, oh, 20 times in a few days. This is really terrific stuff. Now ordered a couple of Marcus's CDs. Looking forward to getting them. :-)

Hilife is originaly from Ghana not Nigeria,we introduced it to them thanks
other musicians should continue this concept to be an instrument of peace
point of correction marcus, highlife originated from Ghana not Nigeria they came to Ghana to learn "western music" also known as Highlife. thank you guys for inculcating our culture into your music
I swear, the sound and mix is better at this session than on the album. I always have to come here to listen to these songs.
Hi life is Ghanaian music Marcus
It’s not from Nigeria
Un mélange de couleurs africaine et de slap USA, toujours aussi performant il va de plus en plus vers un niveau difficile à atteindre.

Dunlop does two things very well:

Son of Macbeth is pure delight

This is a killer video great musicians great sound and Marcus gave us a tour with the story on every song. Awesome.
The Instrument he is playing is called a Guembri
William D. Epting this instrument is like the bass guitar but sound like the

Id love to hear Derek Trucks on a Marcus Album!
Marcus Miller 2015. Absolutely amazing ioi
Also sounded nice on the new drummer "Louis Cato".
Simply Awesome. One of my all time favorite bass players!!!
The tone of the bass guitar is quite amazing and cool. kmd_bassman

Everything about this is absolutely fantastic.

I've been playing Dunlop strings for the last 3 years and they've been nothing short of absolutely amazing.
Marcus Miller. The man....The legend!! Awesome awesome stuff as usual! LOVE IY GUYS!!
Impressive! That Marcus Miller is a bit special! Awesome stuff!
I always liked watching Marcus on stage in Rotterdam, but this is another highlight of his career and a really outstanding performance of these talented guys. It has got as much fascinating rhythmic power as it has got beautiful melodic elements. Excellent music. Thanks so much for uploading.
Wow, that was awesome! Imho also the guitar player has improved a lot since the first years with Marcus.
I keep having the feeling of listening to Alune Wade! 🎶🎵 Did Marcus wrotte this album before or after their enconter? 🤔
Great musician, terrible music.
Hmm

Marcus... Point of correction with all respect. Hi-Life Originated from Ghana.
Marcus!!!! Cameroon!!!! Victoria!!!!
Looks like Marcus is using flat wound strings. I always thought round wound was better for slap...
Anyone know what guitar the guitarist's using? Reminds me of a Fender Jazzmaster but I don't think that's what it is.
guys, do u know if him use the strings like 0.40, 0.60, 0.80 and 0.100 ?
No, sadly I don't have the answer to that, but why exactly do you want to know considering your channel name is "OrgSolutionscom Marketing Digital Consulting"?
Where can I find that Jazzmaster guitar to buy?
+Regan Cornell It's a Fano guitar. I think you can order them from the company. www.fanoguitars.com/models/alt-de-facto-jm6/#specs
Thanks man :)
Toujours aussi exceptionnel! Bravo!

T'sé quand t'as trop de talent pis que t'as juste besoin d'une bûche avec des trippes de mouton dessus... @9:00min

Pure class.
Thank you.
I love this!!!! Two thumbs up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Behold! Aliens live amongst us....
And they've hypnotised us with their music!
This kind of makes me think of Spyro Gyra catching the Sun album… Not exactly the same for us… Just kind of has some similar vibes
E chi è sto chitarrista che non conoscevo? Marcus sei un grande, haaa, the same answear like Bollacks, the drummer?????
So, Marcus went to bits of here and bits of there and then went back home where he 'didn't wanna do something that could be done so much better by original and authentic musicians but take that feeling."
W...? Thanks a bundle.
THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE MUSIC WORK, THIS IS WHAT MUSIC IS ABOUT. BUT WHERE ARE THE LYRYCS??!!!! I CAN'T FIND THEM. HELP PLEASE!!
