- Everything you need for a Smart Home with my own house as the example. Anyone can do this one or a similar setup.
I don't go over setting it up as that would take a long time. Maybe in another video.
Enjoy! Наука

How much was the garage door smart switch? What model/brand is it? What was install like for it? Thanks
+Alex Masi It was the GoControl one on Amazon ~$80. Install was easy. Just two wires that sit on top of the existing wires from the open/close button. Just make sure you have an extra power outlet.
Excellent video! Thanks so much! What made you choose smartthings hub vs wink? Do you have to have a hub or not?
+z grubble You don't really need Smartthings or Wink depending on what products you're buying and what you want your setup to do. For example, the Amazon Echo works well as a hub if all you want is voice control. You can also create automation rules using internet/mobile apps like IFTTT and Stringify. Using Smartthings or Wink is definitely easier to make things work together though.
I chose Smartthings because it's very customizable. Their community is very good at getting things to work. I was even able to add several items that aren't officially supported through workarounds. Wink is a user friendly and easy to use hub with no frills. I like to think that if they were both phones Smartthings would be like an Android phone while Wink would be like an iPhone.
Thanks for the comment!
do you run a central hub programmed to control devices from a central location or you control each individual device as 'alexa' discovered them?
+Vlad Puha Hi Vlad, I just use the Alexa skills to control the devices since I use voice only for simple operations (turn on/off lights and my TV). For more complex operations and automation I mainly use an app called Stringify. It's free and can tie together many different products. Much more powerful than the popular IFTTT.
You bend the tabs on the switches to snap them off so they will fit together
I figured that out after I bought a couple more after this video. The first ones I got just won’t break off when I went back to them though. On the new ones the tab breaks off easily.
could you make a video about ioBroker in english?
I haven’t used that before, but I’ll look into it and see if it’s good for my setup.
Great, thank you!
That is the Alexa the echo is smaller and neater
Nope. Alexa is the name of the voice assistant. Echo is the name of the products. There are a lot of different Echos in various form factors.
Phillips hue is a rip-off! Also smartthings is very safe but alexa can be used as a more cost saving hub
Hue is a lot more expensive compared to other light bulb brands but it does have high compatibility with any hub. Alexa is turning out to be a great hub, but making rules for advanced users isn’t available yet.
"and this is my Hard drive... which doeesn't belong in this video" don't insult your hardware, Karma will bite you and storage devices hit you the hardest
"this lightbulb, the most expensive ongoing cost in my home has lasted me 10 years, it's an old incandescent that just keeps going and going, it's absolutely power hungry..." it then died a day later and was replaced by a 6w LED bulb "these HDD's there are my backup drives... they take hours to backup, 1TB each, not very good and it does the job" a week later, they both die and take all my data with them, all copies... the HDD's have been replaced but the data never recovered.
So, don't let karma bite you
Haha good point. Always keep a backup of a backup and you should be good though.
