Rod I can remember that sea wall being fully intacted when I was a little boy use to go there a lot with mum and dad.I haven't fished there for about 50yrs or so must give it a go soon.Tight lines fella.
Yes - like many sea defences elsewhere, its just allowed to deteriorate and erode. I've not fished Grays for a while, so plan to go back to the area when the soles arrive.

Great day out, love the rig building vids, hope you have time to do another one this summer. Can you explain what is the purpose of the diff length of booms please, what is happening in the water as your fishing them, cheers mate!
Thanks Johnny. There will be a boom rig video sometime in the not too distant future - just need to choose the right fishing session for the context! There are subtle differences that would need a video to explain - effect on casting range, nailing to sea bed, general bait presentation, bite registration etc. My next video with rig making incorporated covers the Pulley dropper / Pulley drop-down rig - out soon!

Nor, perhaps, the most picturesque of locations and lacking the sound of waves "crashing" on a shingle beach but hey, if the fish are there...and they clearly were...who cares? Great video, as ever, and nice to see flounders this side of the Thames. I've tried pre-baiting a rig with worm baits and hanging it on my tripod but almost inevitably I end up with little more than empty skins! What's your secret? Like your comment about your tackle still being there after you got back from releasing the last flounder! Cheers. Ken

Yes - if you leave a rig pre-baited hanging for too long your blow lug may drain fluids and ragworm dries out - most of the time I think anglers are often more concerned about their bait than the fish are! OK, so match anglers need their bait to be top quality - but I have caught a lot on bait that others would throw away - sometimes the fish just aren't fussy!
The same thing happened to me at Hole in the Wall on the River Crouch many years ago. The tide came up so high we were stuck on a strand !! Caught some nice Whiting that night as I remember

The length of snoods on a flapper would depend on what you are fishing for and current strength. You could consider putting a small (say size 10) retainer hook (pennell style) above your main hook, if your bait keeps coming off. I like to do this on sole rigs to keep the ragworm from sliding down over the bend of small hooks. With boom rigs, most of my hooklengths are about 5in in length.

If you want a sole, fish between the pub and the flats at low water. You can walk out on hard ground and fish for about 2 hours over low. My PB was 3 1/2 lb from there, used to live in one of the flats.

Good question! Spring tides here, if you don't mind getting your feet wet - I have been caught out a few times at the top of the tide with the wake of passing boat traffic!
Thanks Tony - no, thankfully I've not had too many scary moments. I have fished the Bristol Channel a lot and some places are dangerous with the tide coming in so fast and you can sink in to the mud in places.
Great video. Personally I always change my snoods/traces after every session. I've seen to many good fish lost through not renewing the snoods or trace..
