He goes into finance by letting us know where it started with Hamilton and Jefferson to now, then recognizes the condition of the American people and our mindset, then go into how to fix the problem. Just simply wonderful. I am not a economical person, I thank you Senator for explaining it to me so I can understand it. Mr. President. God Bless America and the American people to do the right thing.

I am an investment banker and I can tell you that the specific policy positions that Obama advocates in this speech are both sound and wise given the context of the economic reality in which we live. Specifically the comments Re: mortgage regulation of banks vs third party mortgage lenders; capital reserve requirements surrounding complex derivative instruments e.g. mortgage backed securities; long term dependency of "wall street" on the economic prospertiy of "main street".

It is important to have this man in office cause he not only explains what he wants to do but educates you about it in a way that makes you want to learn the "Why's" and the "How's" of those things. You feel you are intelligent enough to understand cause he makes you feel you are. I imagine it has only been that way with exceptional politicians like Lincoln and FDR. He's just too "cool".

  • @Hotshortie

Great speech! Barack is suggesting that the best way to confront the special interests is to ally himself with powerful players whose investments are most affected by the "trickle-up" of pain from Main Street to Wall Street. This is a saavy way to use the sub-prime situation to his advantage, but is it enough? Does he really have a chance of taking on the special interests? If he does, what do his fellow Americans need to do to help him?

  • @ibeej

Come on America, don't screw this one up. Obama is the only candidate with hope written all over him, and I think he has proven by now that it only STARTS with hope. What he just said in this video goes beyond hope, with a comprehensive plan on all fronts to resolve the economy and major issues abroad.
He's right, it wont be easy. But we have to start somewhere.
And it starts with Mr. Barack Obama.

But the issue of bringing transparency to government as a way to plug the influence of corporate lobbies on law making, is I think, wrong. The problem is that the more transparent and «open doors» government becomes, the more easily lobbyists can monitor and influence law making.

They are definitely trying to ride on the fears of America and its troubled past. He had enough courage to do a speech, answered every talk show, radio show etc. They are still trying to pain him a militant man. If we let these people do this, it will be to America's detriment. He is truly a Patriot that speaks intelligently, honestly and bravely to the American people.

Obama is like finding a book with an intriguing synopsis, but the plot is filled with holes. This speech has a promising table of contents, but the chapters are just an outline and miss any specifics or real examples that show thought beyond the headlines. For all those admiring the speech, please explain what and why you think Obama is on the right track (economic). Military, medical and transportation costs and self-defeating loans (in that order) I feel are the economic ills to be conqured.
