No lalgola passenger from sealdah still hauled by wam 4 loco. I am not joking. Very good loco and safe loco. Cute loco. Yes old but yet functional in sealdah station. 3 loco yet docked there.
WAM4 IS so nostalgic for me 😢, Everytime I sit in station to watch trains at station when I was kid , around 2006, 7 ,I would spot WAM4 , That time i didn't know its called WAM4 ,but it looked so attractive 🥹
I saw WAM4 hauling trains until 2016. From 2018, WAM4 are only doing shunting operations and all WAPs doing mainline operations. Until 2010, WAM4s where equally and parallelly running with WAPs.
Trains which are not fully electrified and run with WDM in unelectrified routes, I feel the moment these trains change their traction from diesel to electric while changing locos from diesel to electric, they should always be given WAM4 only for their electrified counter part routes and they should never ever be given any WAPs, neither they should be upgraded to superfast by keeping them always mail/express category, also they must never be given LHB coaches keeping them always in ICF and WAP5/7 should not even be touched by those trains even in dreams. My personal feelings.
Same here ...most trains from Howrah to Odissa route were hauled by WAM 4 locomotives during 2010s... Specifically Puri express , Jagannath Express... Amazing locomotives..I love their colour and designs... 🙂

Ahmedabad Howrah express was initially during 1990s; until mid 2000s, was running by a Tata or SRC based WAM4 locomotive between Howrah to Nagpur until 1990s mid and until Howrah to Bhusaval between late 1990s and mid 2000s, and between Ahmedabad and Nagpur (during mid 1990s) as well between Ahmedabad and Bhusawal (between late 1990s until mid 2000s), ran with a VTA or BSL WDM locomotive. I have my child memory and experience of Ahmedabad Howrah express changing its locomotive from WDM to WAM4 at Nagpur earlier as well as Bhusawal later. After Surat Bhusawal line section was electrified by 2004, since 2004, Ahmedabad Howrah express was hauled end to end from Ahmedabad to Howrah and Howrah to Ahmedabad for the entire journey in both sides by a single WAP1/4 locomotive from SRC shed; along with its coaches being upgraded to AB blue livery, from the earlier conventional VB maroon livery and also at the same time, Ahmedabad Howrah express was upgraded to Superfast category from mail/express category; immediately after fully running with electric locomotive SRC WAP1/4 in its entire end to end journey along with its coaches being upgraded to AB blue livery as well as the train becoming an ICF Superfast train, with regular permanent SRC WAP1/4 loco link, which is its situation till date. Gitanjali was the first train to get SRC WAP1 in Mumbai Howrah line during 2000 and Gitanjali was the first superfast train in that entire Howrah Mumbai route from beginning. During 2010, this train like Rupashi bangla SF ICE, was getting alternatively both Tata WAM4 as well as SRC WAP4 locomotive in 50/50 share, slowly by mid 2010s, the locomotive link of this train permanently became SRC WAP4 by 2015/16 and from 2018, this barbil Janshatabi got chaircar LHB coaches along with SRC/Tata WAP7 being it's permanent regular loco link and it's same for trains like Ispat (Ispat used to get both Tata WAM4 as well as SRC WAP4 until it was having ICF coaches and partial electrification until jharsuguda; being running in diesel loco WDM between jharsuguda and titlagar via sambhalpur, the moment jharsuguda to titlagar via sambhalpur line got electrified, this train Ispat from 2019 got LHB chaircar coaches and a permanent regular Tata or SRC WAP7 loco link, hauling this train end to end for its entire journey from Howrah to titlagar; having no locomotive change from electric to diesel), coaldfield, dhauli, Malda town Howrah ICE SF, Black diamond SF and all Janshatabis from Howrah getting LHB chaircar coaches and regular permanent WAP7 loco link from SRC/Tata shed.
WAM4 should be preserved for all the mail/express trains which won't be upgraded to superfast and those trains should never be given LHB coaches. Yes sir, I have seen this locomotive.I live in Bolpur Santiniketan.In 2016, when the electrification works have been completed in this route,some WAM-4 locomotives from ELS Asansol hauled some express trains.Its acceleration power was great.But I can't see it now.

I have travelled extensively in Bhopal express regularly through 2003-2006 and the rake was used to be hauled by a WAM4 series locomotive during that period/time.
Untill 2010, many mail/express train were always and regularly getting WAM4 as it's loco link. Between 2010 and 2016, fewer trains got Tata WAM4 or from whatever loco shed like Ranchi Howrah intercity, Ispat (sometimes), Steel Express, Jagannath express, Howrah LTT express, Tata Nagpur Express and few here and their. From 2018, WAM4 was rarely given to any train for hauling it, they're doing mainly shunting which continues now as well.
East coast express got WAM4 even in 2018. Tatanagar Hatia express and suvernarekha express got only Tata WAM4 only no matter what. BBSR VSKP InterCity too always got WAM4 Tata.
I still remember that the Barabil-Howrah Janshatabdi was hauled by WAM4 in 2006. Despite having much less power compared to today's WAP7 OR WAP5, WAM4 had great accelaration. Besides this a lot of trains of SouthEastern Railway was hauled by WAM 4 TILL LATE 2000s.
Even trains like steel and purulia express were hauled by wam4 from tata shed. I even remember dhauli being hauled by twin diesels probably way back in early 2000s when it used to run with rupasi bangla till kgp
Steel express actually is good with WAM4 Tata only with ICF coaches and being just an express train. Ispat express became SF and given Chaircar LHB coaches with WAP5/7, alright. I even saw Howrah Rourkela Shatabdi with Tata WAM4 during 2001 and Chennai Mysore Shatabdi with ED/LGD WAM4 (Saptagiri livery) as well.
Trains like Gitanjali SF, Dhauli, Rupashi Bangla, Ispat (sometimes), Azad hind and Falaknuma being superfast trains most of the time got WAP1/4 SRC only. Howrah Ahmedabad express and Howrah Mumbai mail initially were getting WAM4 when they're in express category with VB maroon liveried coaches, but later 2004, started getting SRC WAP1/4; along with not only upgrading their coaches to VB blue liveried but also getting upgraded to Superfast category at the same time. My experience.

Ahmedabad express got WAM4 until mid 2000s, from 2004, started getting WAP1/4 and got upgraded to superfast category from express level category at same time along with changing the coaches livery too from VB maroon liveried coaches to AB blue liveried coaches same time. I travelled by Ahmedabad Howrah express from 1995 until 2005. I have both experience, until 2004 and 1990s, travelling by Ahmedabad Howrah express as just an express train with both WDM as well as WAM4 along with loco change between WDM as well as WAM4 at Nagpur initially and then later on that loco change used to happen at bhusawal from late 1990s and also I have the experience of travelling with Ahmedabad Howrah express being a superfast train fully electrified along with being hauled by a single WAP1/4 of SRC for its entire journey end to end from Ahmedabad to Howrah.
The loco used by Western railway on the Ahmedabad Mumbai line back then would be the WCAM1 which is a derivative of the WAM4 that operated both on 25KV AC and 1500V DC ..
I have travelled in this loco haul train in my childhood a lot, it was once a regular link of my favorite train 12827 UP Purulia Express, now everything has changed a lot...........I have last seen this locomotive in year 2019
Yup I used to see this loco haul Purulia Express train while standing at Ramrajatala (SER). This loco is no longer used in mainline service. I seriously want to see in Rail Museum, Howrah! Recently WDM 3A from Andal DLS has been added to Rail Museum Howrah. I have travelled in Gurudev Express, it entered Katpadi with a WAM 4 in the morning.

Itarsi - NDLS, 2627/28 Karnataka Express … WAM 4 would replace 2 x WDM 2 Alcos … Beautiful cream and orange livery.. looked like a bread box.. high speed, kickass acceleration..! Lovely memories footboarding .. leaning out to get a glimpse of it on curves.
2 Asansol WAM-4 was allotted to Sealdah Railway station for shunting purposes and in mid 2021 it went through POH and then those two units were given new name as WAS-4. In Bhilai loco shed there are 2 WAM-4 locomotive are present in there original livery and they are only used for shunting purposes.

i was on my way back from Trichi to Howrah n october,2015.train was hauled by this OLDMONK of the Indian Railways from VSKP.very consistently pulling the train at 110kmph.

Seen lots of WAM4 in my Childhood. Iconic Trains like Geetanjali were hauled by it. Till 2010 Kalinga Utkal Express was hauled by WAM4 i think, when i used to travel from Delhi to my Native in Orissa.
Kalinga Utkal express between 2010 and 2016 sometimes (not always) but used to get WAM4. Geetanjali used to normally get WAP1/4 SRC. Howrah LTT express always got WAM4 only. Howrah Mumbai mail used to get both WAM4 as well as WAP4. That's how it was.
Mereko NG line ka NDM/ZDM diesel loco, WDM, WAM4 aur WAP5/7 yeh chaar locomotives eksaath dekhne bahut mazaa aata hai ek steam locomotive aur magnetic bullet locomotive k saath.
There was this JS train in SER zone that had this WAM 4 in charge back in 2007 - 08 as far as I remember. My local train used to cross it between Bagnan and Kulgachia stations.

CLW should re introduce WAM4 loco class with upgraded version and more powerful version on same platform definitely it would be good for both express and freight operations

Apart from the Mango livery of Arakkonam WAM 4 … BZA based, Blue & Rust livery WAM 4s were the most handsome looking ones .. perhaps the all Blue, Itarsi based ones were a close second..
Wam 4 was a highly reliable locomotive. It was used to howrah Bombay mail, howrah chambal superfast express, Gitanjali express. Howrah steel express. I have travelled on many of these trains. The attributable part of these trains was it's high acceleration and adhesion, as they were extensively used by South eastern railway on gradient sections successfully. The locomotive could easily compete with wap 4. It had even better suspension than the previous wam series. However, there were some maintenance issues with the locomotives, though they were nominal.
Howrah Mumbai mail was hauled by WAM4 until 2000 and then replaced the loco with WAP1/4 SRC along with upgrading its coaches from VB maroon to AB Blue livery at same time. Same was the case with Howrah Ranchi InterCity too as written regarding Steel Express and I travelled by Howrah Ranchi InterCity with Tata WAM4 twice in 2016. Hatia Howrah express was hauled by Tata WAM4 until 2010. Srijagannath express was always hauled by Tata WAM4 only as it's loco link and I travelled twice by that with WAM4 in 2015. Ispat and Rupashi Bangla are superfast and were hauled by both Tata WAM4 as well as SRC WAP1/4 alternatively during 2010 as well as 2016. East coast express was hauled by WAM4 even during 2016.

During 2010, this train like Rupashi bangla SF ICE, was getting alternatively both Tata WAM4 as well as SRC WAP4 locomotive in 50/50 share, slowly by mid 2010s, the locomotive link of this train permanently became SRC WAP4 by 2015/16 and from 2018, this barbil Janshatabi got chaircar LHB coaches along with SRC/Tata WAP7 being it's permanent regular loco link and it's same for trains like Ispat (Ispat used to get both Tata WAM4 as well as SRC WAP4 until it was having ICF coaches and partial electrification until jharsuguda; being running in diesel loco WDM between jharsuguda and titlagar via sambhalpur, the moment jharsuguda to titlagar via sambhalpur line got electrified, this train Ispat from 2019 got LHB chaircar coaches and a permanent regular Tata or SRC WAP7 loco link, hauling this train end to end for its entire journey from Howrah to titlagar; having no locomotive change from electric to diesel), coaldfield, dhauli, Malda town Howrah ICE SF, Black diamond SF and all Janshatabis from Howrah getting LHB chaircar coaches and regular permanent WAP7 loco link from SRC/Tata shed.
WAM4 should be preserved for all the mail/express trains which won't be upgraded to superfast and those trains should never be given LHB coaches. For example Lokshakti express, Hyderabad Mumbai express, Kutch express, Sayajingari, Saurashtra express, Jagannath express, Tatanagar Hatia express, koyna express, Sahiyadri express, Ahimsa express, Shanti express, Somnath Jabalpur express, Gujarat Express, Howrah Delhi Express, Howrah LTT express, Ferozepur Janta express, Konark express, Awadh express and udayan express.
WAP1/4 should be only for ICF Superfast trains. Until those superfast trains are not getting LHB coaches.
WAP5/7 should strictly be restricted with LHB superfast trains such as Rajdhani, Jnaneshwari Superdelux, Swaraaj, Shatabdi, Karnavati Superfast, Deccan Queen and all the overnight journey LHB superfast trains having sleeper LHB coaches and all the day journey InterCity LHB Superfast trains having chaircar LHB coaches.
WDM3A loco used in my train, when i was a child, i love when they are running, there sound, but sadly now they are using electric loco, i miss those old days😓
I used to board the Hatia-Patna express hauled by WAM-4 during 2009-10. The loco used to be quite heavy as her arrival used to send waves on the platform.

Yes sir, I have seen this locomotive.I live in Bolpur Santiniketan.In 2016, when the electrification works have been completed in this route,some WAM-4 locomotives from ELS Asansol hauled some express trains.Its acceleration power was great.But I can't see it now.

I have travelled extensively in Bhopal express regularly through 2003-2006 and the rake was used to be hauled by a WAM4 series locomotive during that period/time.
Untill 2010, many mail/express train were always and regularly getting WAM4 as it's loco link.
Between 2010 and 2016, fewer trains got Tata WAM4 or from whatever loco shed like Ranchi Howrah intercity, Ispat (sometimes), Steel Express, Jagannath express, Howrah LTT express, Tata Nagpur Express and few here and their.
From 2018, WAM4 was rarely given to any train for hauling it, they're doing mainly shunting which continues now as well.
East coast express got WAM4 even in 2018.
Tatanagar Hatia express and suvernarekha express got only Tata WAM4 only no matter what.
BBSR VSKP InterCity too always got WAM4 Tata.
I still remember that the Barabil-Howrah Janshatabdi was hauled by WAM4 in 2006. Despite having much less power compared to today's WAP7 OR WAP5, WAM4 had great accelaration. Besides this a lot of trains of SouthEastern Railway was hauled by WAM 4 TILL LATE 2000s.

Even trains like steel and purulia express were hauled by wam4 from tata shed. I even remember dhauli being hauled by twin diesels probably way back in early 2000s when it used to run with rupasi bangla till kgp
Steel express actually is good with WAM4 Tata only with ICF coaches and being just an express train.
Ispat express became SF and given Chaircar LHB coaches with WAP5/7, alright.
I even saw Howrah Rourkela Shatabdi with Tata WAM4 during 2001 and Chennai Mysore Shatabdi with ED/LGD WAM4 (Saptagiri livery) as well.
Trains like Gitanjali SF, Dhauli, Rupashi Bangla, Ispat (sometimes), Azad hind and Falaknuma being superfast trains most of the time got WAP1/4 SRC only.
Howrah Ahmedabad express and Howrah Mumbai mail initially were getting WAM4 when they're in express category with VB maroon liveried coaches, but later 2004, started getting SRC WAP1/4; along with not only upgrading their coaches to VB blue liveried but also getting upgraded to Superfast category at the same time.

Ahmedabad express got WAM4 until mid 2000s, from 2004, started getting WAP1/4 and got upgraded to superfast category from express level category at same time along with changing the coaches livery too from VB maroon liveried coaches to AB blue liveried coaches same time.
I travelled by Ahmedabad Howrah express from 1995 until 2005.
I have both experience, until 2004 and 1990s, travelling by Ahmedabad Howrah express as just an express train with both WDM as well as WAM4 along with loco change between WDM as well as WAM4 at Nagpur initially and then later on that loco change used to happen at bhusawal from late 1990s and also I have the experience of travelling with Ahmedabad Howrah express being a superfast train fully electrified along with being hauled by a single WAP1/4 of SRC for its entire journey end to end from Ahmedabad to Howrah.
Sambhalpur Howrah express and Hatia Howrah express used to get Tata WAM4 until 2010.

The loco used by Western railway on the Ahmedabad Mumbai line back then would be the WCAM1 which is a derivative of the WAM4 that operated both on 25KV AC and 1500V DC ..

I have travelled in this loco haul train in my childhood a lot, it was once a regular link of my favorite train 12827 UP Purulia Express, now everything has changed a lot...........I have last seen this locomotive in year 2019
Yup I used to see this loco haul Purulia Express train while standing at Ramrajatala (SER).
This loco is no longer used in mainline service. I seriously want to see in Rail Museum, Howrah! Recently WDM 3A from Andal DLS has been added to Rail Museum Howrah. I have travelled in Gurudev Express, it entered Katpadi with a WAM 4 in the morning.

Like WDM2, this WAM4 had played very important roles of hauling all important mail/ express trains of electrified sections of IR for long time.
Trains getting WDM I believe should get always WAM4 only and never the WAPs I believe and feel so.

2 Asansol WAM-4 was allotted to Sealdah Railway station for shunting purposes and in mid 2021 it went through POH and then those two units were given new name as WAS-4.
In Bhilai loco shed there are 2 WAM-4 locomotive are present in there original livery and they are only used for shunting purposes.
Ohh man I have video of one of them in action while shunting 12343 UP Sealdah NJP SF darjeeling mail. There is a journey compilation video on my channel to NJP, that shows WAS 4 in action in the first section of the video
I have also seen WAG5 P as shunter
ASN and Tata WAM4 are at present carrying out shunting operation and duties in Howrah, Sealdah as well as Tatanagar.

WAG5 p is has only that much difference with WAM4, what WAP7 has with WAP5 and what WAP1 has with WAP4.
WAP1 and WAP4 are same, WAP5 and WAP7 are same and WAM4 and WAG5p are too same.

Yess I had journey by WAM 4 hauled train PURI HWH GARIB RATH back in 2012
i was on my way back from Trichi to Howrah n october,2015.train was hauled by this OLDMONK of the Indian Railways from VSKP.very consistently pulling the train at 110kmph.

Seen lots of WAM4 in my Childhood. Iconic Trains like Geetanjali were hauled by it. Till 2010 Kalinga Utkal Express was hauled by WAM4 i think, when i used to travel from Delhi to my Native in Orissa.
Kalinga Utkal express between 2010 and 2016 sometimes (not always) but used to get WAM4.
Geetanjali used to normally get WAP1/4 SRC.
Howrah LTT express always got WAM4 only.
Howrah Mumbai mail used to get both WAM4 as well as WAP4.
That's how it was.

yes, I travel in train which was halted by WAM 4, in 1995 train introduce between nzm to jbp Gondwana express & this train halted by WAM 4 between nzm to Bina after that diesal locomotive halted this train up to Jbp. after Bina bilaspur line electrified this locomotive halted up to Katni in 2014. after that WAP 1 & 4 halted this train kte to nzm.
CLW should re introduce WAM4 loco class with upgraded version and more powerful version on same platform definitely it would be good for both express and freight operations
And preserve it for all the mail and express trains only keeping them in ICF coaches.
But not making them aerodynamic.

Wam 4 was a highly reliable locomotive. It was used to howrah Bombay mail, howrah chambal superfast express, Gitanjali express. Howrah steel express. I have travelled on many of these trains. The attributable part of these trains was it's high acceleration and adhesion, as they were extensively used by South eastern railway on gradient sections successfully. The locomotive could easily compete with wap 4. It had even better suspension than the previous wam series. However, there were some maintenance issues with the locomotives, though they were nominal.
Howrah Mumbai mail was hauled by WAM4 until 2000 and then replaced the loco with WAP1/4 SRC along with upgrading its coaches from VB maroon to AB Blue livery at same time.
Howrah LTT express was always hauled by WAM4 only until 2018.
Gitanjali was the first train getting SRC WAP1 in Howrah Mumbai route and first superfast train in that route.
Ahmedabad Howrah was hauled by a WAM4 between Howrah and Nagpur initially as well as bhusawal later on and between Ahmedabad and Nagpur initially but bhusawal later on it was hauled by WDM because Surat bhusawal section was unelectrified, but the moment Surat bhusawal line was electrified, Ahmedabad Howrah express for its entire journey end to end from Ahmedabad to Howrah permanently and regularly hauled by a single SRC WAP1/4 as it's loco link since 2004 onwards and during the same time the train was not only upgraded from its old maroon liveried VB coaches to AB blue liveried coaches, but also got upgraded to superfast category train in ICF coaches from express train and till date Ahmedabad Howrah express is an ICF Superfast train hauled by SRC WAP1/4.
Steel express was hauled by tata WAM4 until 2018 as long as it had ICF coaches and post 2018 became like a janshatadi getting LHB chaircar coaches with SRC or Tata WAP5/7 as it's regular loco link and also was upgraded to SF category, but still always looked better with Tara WAM4 and ICF coaches only and being an express train.
Same was the case with Howrah Ranchi InterCity too as written regarding Steel Express and I travelled by Howrah Ranchi InterCity with Tata WAM4 twice in 2016.
Hatia Howrah express was hauled by Tata WAM4 until 2010.
Srijagannath express was always hauled by Tata WAM4 only as it's loco link and I travelled twice by that with WAM4 in 2015.
Ispat and Rupashi Bangla are superfast and were hauled by both Tata WAM4 as well as SRC WAP1/4 alternatively during 2010 as well as 2016.
East coast express was hauled by WAM4 even during 2016.
Gitanjali, Azad Hind, Falaknuma, Rupashi Bangla and Dhauli were always Superfast and got SRC WAP1/4 most of the time normally.
