Hussein Kambar - Nah, La La Land was a bad imitation of the great musicals of the 50s and 60s. LLL had singers who can't sing and no plot, basically a plastic movie for teenagers who have never seen a real musical.
abelsincain not gonna argue about the whole comment cause it's your opinion and I respect it. But the actors cannot sing? Honestly I think they were terrific, and even if they weren't that is the whole point, it is about an aspiring actress and a jazz pianist not about two singers, they don't have to have Adele's vocals to be considered good singers.

This was hilarious but when they showed Damien Chazelle's face I got sad... He got really excited with thinking that he won for la la land and can you imagine how humiliating that must have been for them to take back the award from him? Don't get me wrong, they handled the mix-up gracefully, and I'm very happy for moonlight's win especially with our world today and the social changes we needed to hear. But it's sad how la la land cast and crew were embarrassed over it. Damien even skipped out on press conferences because he must have been so embarrassed. Also his grandmother just passed away recently. Idk if I'm being too soft because I care about the cast, btw I also really care for the cast of moonlight a lot. Both movies were incredible and I wish they both could have won.
Directors don't get awarded in the 'Best Picture' category unless they're producers, which Chazelle wasn't. He never had to give any statues away.
Valpas Kankaristo. True but it still must have been really disappointing to think for a few minutes that the movie you have dreamed of making for almost a decade and a movie that is so personal to Chazelle won Best Picture only for it to be taken away.

I really loved La La Land, but the reason they didn't win is because of the story. The performances, the music and the visuals were fantastic, but the story was nothing special.
Moonlight on the other hand had everything. If you haven't watched it, which I guess is most of the people who say LLL should've won, you can't make a judgement.

TheOtherSide La La Lands story was about the struggle of attaining your dreams, it was unique as it was a very happy and positive film, yet always underlying these moments were scenes of negativity and setbacks.
The story is about the struggle to reaching your dreams, but it is told through a love story between two people. La La Land had everything going for it, it was the perfect movie, yet the academy could not recognize how masterful and how artful the film was.
Poor Damien Chazelle, the amount of work and planning that went into this film, eclipses anything that other nominees produced.

As I said I really liked the movie (I even watched it twice), but the story that was told in Moonlight is more emotionially impactful.
jeebs621 first of all LLL is not unique and I don't know if you were watching this film with eyes closed but I think that the scene where Emma and Ryan floating in the air with all those shit cardboard cut out stars with shit graphics were not artful. Moonlight actually had a meaning to it and LLL just showed the same crap they put in the theatres every year. Moonlight showed the struggle for the character and how he was struggling to find out his sexuality and especially being a black man it was hard for him to show that to society because of the stereotypes.

La la land was good and pleasant to watch but I also found it very cliche and sentimental and really kind of predictable and unoriginal at times. The stunning cinematography and structure of the film was better than the actual story itself. There were at least four movies who I think deserved it more than la la land. Just my opinion though

evefiamma I agree so much! They were really trying to no be cliche but that's exactly what happened. I knew they wouldn't get them together just because. And it feels like this kind of movie could've had a happy ending for once, cause it's so magical, it's entitled to one. I honestly don't understand why anyone would think that Moonlight would be forgotten while La La Land lives on. Do you realize that Moonlight is the first movie with a gay protagonist to win, the first movie with an all-black cast to win, the lowest-budget movie to win, has the first Muslim actor to win an Oscar, and is the fourth highest rated movie on metacritic ever. Say what you will about the movie, but you have to appreciate the fact that it's a historic win. La La Land is a great movie, but you can't take away the gravity of Moonlight winning.
