The station opened on April 24, 1906 (the line 4 platform opened on October 30, 1909).

Nice station. Above ground is a copy of the Belfort Lion. Denfert-Rochereau was the commanding officer of the Belfort Citadel. Strategically located the 'Belfort Gap' is a pass through the Jura and Vosges mountain range. In 1871 during the Franco-Prussian war Belfort was defended by the French with bravery. As a result the Belfort Territory wasn't annexed by the German empire after France's defeat in 1871, but became a 'Territoire de Belfort'. The Lion of Belfort in Belfort is somewhat larger :) And made by Bartholdi, famous for the Statue of Liberty in New York (and smaller copy in Paris on the Seine).

Ah, Denfert-Rocherau! Eine Station die mich sehr lange enorm in ihrem Aufbau verwirrt hat.
