im loving this series, can't wait to hear literally anyone comment about "ill all blow over" (please do) and the dramatic downwards key change in what would you do. and omg this musical has so many albums, have you heard the original London cast? the one in the white background, chaotic singing and a trans flag (maybe accidentally) in the poster? it has literally the best version of "what would you do", i cant hear it without crying

We recently had a Cabaret production here in Brazil which used the 1987 book, the one closest to the original Broadway production. That meant no “Mein Herr” neither “Maybe This Time”. Some people were OUTRAGED that these songs were cut "because they're the only ones that really exposed Sally's arc" and that they should cut "the old couple songs because they did nothing to the story". To those people I really wanted
to scream "you're not a fan of Cabaret
the Broadway musical. You're a fan of the movie, or at least a Liza Minelli fanboy". The movie is amazing, but I honestly think it ignores so so so much of the original pathos of the story in favor of glamourizing Sally's life (not that its not one of the main points of the story, but we have
so much more depth into the story when we have Fraulein Schneider, Herr Schultz and Fraulein Kozt in the game other than a young couple with money who might be able
to escape the horrors about to come…)

I think the Fraulein Schneider and Herr Shultz relationship and how that plays against the time is the true point of the musical.(Kind of the way the song "You've Got to be Carefully Taught" in South Pacific is the point there.)

loved this video; I do disagree with you branding Maybe this time as a cabaret song. In the current revival I view it as a book scene. It’s Sally singing her feelings in her head in the moment, not in the club but a soliloquy which is why cliff is frozen and she’s frozen in time pondering this moment, hense why when it’s over we go straight into the continuing the scene

I think you do absolutely have a point! It is debateable and I could be convinced otherwise. Or perhaps the beauty of this song is that any specific production can interpret this song either way!
