An era of music with 2 of the best 🎸🎹 players ever. Nothing today will ever come close ‼️👍
Jeff was 74 when this was recorded! Let that sink in. Growing musically every second, thrilling us and amazing us along the way. He was the greatest ever to play. Rest in peace fine sir
Jan Hammer's dad was a groomsman in my father in law's wedding in communist Czechoslovakia. Both doctors. They would talk about what an amazing musician Jan was as a young teen. Fortunately when Czechoslovakia briefly opened up in 1968 Jan was able to get out. The rest is rock history.
As soon as Jan touches the keys, THERE IS THAT SOUND. Saw Mr. Hammer back in the old Mahavishnu days. He pushed that band to another level and it was never the same after he left. As great as Chick or Barry Miles or any of those guys were, Jan is just in another league. My absolute favorite jazz/fusion keyboardist.
👍I'll go as far as saying Jan Hammer is my favorite MUSICIAN.
I also saw the original Mahavishnu Orchestra back in '74
The Jeff Beck "Wired" tour, twice......and the
Jan Hammer Group
touring in support of the LP "Melodies".....
Saw Mahavishnu live in Paris, another musical level, plus great Billy Cobham.
HEAR HEAR from somewhat south of the north pole. That man has his own brand of cool on a level where no one even dares to sound inspired by him!
Jeff and Jan are a perfect match! The live album in the 70s with them sparing together is a classic.
Seriously. It's like they're musical mirror images of each other.
Yes!! Blow By Blow, Wired and then Live Wired!!! Sweet.
There and Back is a grossly underrated album, imo. Everyone knows The Pump from Risky Business, and many know this song but the whole album is great.
When the masters play, one can only shut up, listen , and learn. Speechless to witness the chemistry of these 2 when playing together. A rare treat. If only there would be more of this......
No more now. That talent has left the earth : (
@@A_Chicago_Man I know ..... what a tragedy......
Something tells me you never shut up.
Jeff Beck + Jan Hammer = the dynamic duo of music 🎸 🎹 🔥
So sad.....
Beck and Hammer
Felder and Walsh
Clapton and Whitlock
best duos in all of music
This takes me back to a time when musicianship and creativity were at its peak among players who were on their game. Listen to these guys kill it!!
Prog rock heaven.
At the 2:44 through 2:48 time mark, that Old fellow geezer Beck flips the drummer a complimentary bird and a Mad Hatter grin. Damn I enjoy being as old as dirt. Our generation rocked the walls until they crumbled. That young drummer is tight and in the groove. Jan? What more does one need to say. The best synth leads on the block, from day one. This Czech can bounce.
index finger...
@@leonardtunstad3884 Initial Index with the bird shortly following. Hit the slow mo and you'll see it mate. Cheers.
The compliment of course, was because of that nice drumroll that the drummer played to perfection.
@@paulturnet4572 Indeed, Paul.
I had never noticed that before, but now I will see it and laugh every time!
Jan Hammer has his signature sound on all of his unique compositions. This is one of them.
I love Jan Hammer. Actually I love both these musicians.
Happy birthday Jan Hammer, keep on jamming!
Everything here is incredible. What an assemblage of talent. I can't believe Jeff Beck is gone. RIP to the best ever.
At times I got to really watch the screen to see if it is really the guitar as the tone is so different - no one can pull different voices out of the guitar as Jeff Beck , he is so unusual and a pleasure to watch
it's the surface area of the thumb. That and the strat... that is a large part of it. Mastering it all.. well. Different story.
And Jan Hammer can make a synth sound like a guitar.
A lot of doubling between the synth and guitar happening throughout. Hammer is a master of guitar-style licks. Probably the best ever. His apparently idle left hand is always subtly busy manipulating the pitch-bend and modulation controls to closely emulate the guitar stylings.
No one can write these "action" songs like Jan Hammer!!! You can hear how much influence he had on Jeff Becks guitar playing. Even Miami Vice theme song is the coolest composition!
Jeff Beck was another selfless musician who surrounded himself with fantastic musicians in their own right. Great drummers, bass players, other guitarists and keyboard players. Just a pleasure watching him interact with others on stage.
Bacterial infection ? Wtf Jeff
Folks, this tune is on Jeff Beck's There and Back album and advise you to check the entire album out. Jan and Jeff play so well together and love when they trade 4's, 8's & 16's, etc. ideas off each other.
A marriage made in Heaven. The soundtrack of my youth. So much to love, I never tire of these two legendary geniuses jamming with 🔥.
I can watch Jeff Beck turn notes into golden nuggets for hours on end - and I often do. RIP you fucking amazing world talent.
🎼🔥✨RHONDA SMITH✨🔥
~and~
🔥✨JONATHAN JOSEPH✨🔥
Much love, thanks & respect...
Be well,
Fox🌬💨🔥🎵🔥🎶🔥✨🕶
Still Hurts so bad. There is nobody that meant what Jeff meant to me. The world is not the same. The joy he brought to my life with is playing immeasurable. He was so great yet so humble and funny. I Miss him every day
I'm 2 years late to this party!!
Glad I finally showed up!!
So, some guy walks out of the bowling alley across the street and starts jamming with Jeff Beck...
There & Back was the first Jeff Beck LP I bought back in the 1980. I've loved Jan Hammer's playing since first "discovering" him on that album. Pure genius.
And for MANY years, I thought Simon Phillips played drums on Star Cycle. I was wrong, it was Jan! WTF!? LOVE IT STILL.
All Hail the grand master of cool ness and guitar sweetness
I'm giddy....that was SENSATIONAL!!! Man, I never thought I'd hear the two of them play Star Cycle again. I listened to this all the time in the early and mid 80's. Jeff Beck is so on another level.....and gets better all the time...and he is what 75?
How can this not have 1M views, at least? My gawd...
Wish I was there .. . .
The magic between the two is Still there.
My eyes are filling up with tears watching & at the end, I am smiling. Jeff was so happy, jamming his heart out, the interaction with Jan is magical, the awesome band. I was fortunate to be at this show with my sister. We have seen Jeff 6 times together & walked out in awe of Jeff & his band every time. We are heartbroken over the loss of Jeff. Still can’t believe we won’t see or hear him again 😔💔❤️
RIP Jeff Beck from Italy.
Two Legends always and forever
.🎶👁️👃👁️🎵
Not enuff said
Tru dat!
I wish they do a new album together 😊
WOW!! What a great bunch of musicians! MAGIC!
Insane, fabulous!
There will never be another JEFF BECK
EXACTLY.....🎸🎸🎸🌿🌿🌿
LOVE JAN'S SEQUENCERS!!!!
IT REALLY IS ABOUT TIME THAT JAN HAMMER PROMOTES HIMSELF. I THINK HIS NAME SHOULD BE MAINSTREAM.
JAN HAMMER IS DA MAN!
THIS VERSION IS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT THAN THE ORIGINAL, A LITTLE BIT SLOWER IN TEMPO........... BUT OH, SO WONDERFUL!!!!! I'M REALLY DIGGING IT!
Soo good to see him on a stage again!!
Jan Hammer has had a great career spanning back into the 70's starting with the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Jan has played with the best in the world and collaborated with Jeff Beck, Neal Schon, Stanley Clark, to name a few, plus doing the music for Miami Vice. Jan Hammer is well known in the music industry. He has one problem. He's afraid of flying which has hindered him from touring a lot with a lot of bands including his own.. Jeff Beck has always spoken highly of Jan, saying that he influences his own playing. Checkout his website - pretty cool.
Jupp! Jan Hammer is the hammer!
he does pretty well, scoring so many shows and movies. This is a pay cut. Believe me
Goddamn that drummer is so good
HOLY CRAP!!!!! THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!
Dude, it blows my mind!
You should hear the original!
@@overrooftops I have. I had There and Back on 8 track
More impressed each time I watch.
Rest in peace Jeff Beck.
This could not have been any better...went to the show and didn't know Jan was gonna be there...dream show
Jan Hammer as well as Jeff Beck still had it in 2016!!
Joy through brilliance.
Jeff and Jan, definitely, but what about the DRUMMER! He is awesome as well...
ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY !!
Shawn Pierre, you don’t play with talent like this if you can’t take the heat…
Jeff Beck with the Jan Hammer Group Live became part of my forever-playlist /life-soundtrack the very first time I heard it back in the 70's.. Gave the original vinyl to my daughter last year(also a fan). She's 23, so an album is a kind of cool antique thing, It's a bit scratchy. I'm happy to say she plays the crap out of it. Anyway- still dig it, always will! Great music for the journey. Much gratitude to Jan Hammer and Jeff Beck. Another kick ass group of musos as always!
great drummer
一流のプレーヤーが別の一流のプレーヤーと絡む、この演奏は素晴らしい。それに楽しそうですね。
i was at this show. No Rod but most everyone else showed up and boy, so did Jeff.
Can´t get better than this!!!
So awesome to see musicians having such a great time playing together.
This is typical of JB's bands: tight as a frog's ass but _loose_ -- feeding off one another, smiling & laughing & teasing each other in a way only people can who are confident, relaxed, & enjoying working & playing together.
Mind blowing in1981...........more so now.
Great tune, great performance, and the mix is excellent. And my god, Carmen Vandenberg is just so beautiful! And she plays the instrument well too!
Rock In Peace, Jeff!
RIP Jeff Beck!!!
This man made me be a good boy for a year so my dad got me a Roland D10. Jan is amazing and so is Jeff. This is the most amazing synth playing I have even witnessed. What talent !....the most amazing performance I have ever heard!
Hmmmm, My initial comment was not the whole truth...what a band!
What is the keyboard he's using there?
How can Jeff Beck memorize the notes without reading notes??? Amazing
The keyboard lick at 5:00 minutes in is FREAKIN' GOLDEN!
Absolutely sick riff. The way he plays over the changes is inspiring.
Rest in Peace, Jeff Beck 🙏
Simply : race of The Giants !
Some of Jan's solo albums on ECM.. are amazing too he's an an amazing composer..
Yes!!!! "Timeless" with guitarist John Abercrombie and drummer Jack Dejohnette
ECM 1975
Its always nice to watch a guitarist go through a full set of tubes one song !!
RIP. I true master like no other.
Absolutely wonderful....from my all-time favourite Jeff Beck album too 😎👍🎸
Thank you Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer, best guitar piece in the History of guitar..We love you from India.
BadAss keyboards from the Jan....
Beck is a monster!
Jeff your da best for me, nothing else i salute you...👍
I was wandering around my favourite record store in 1980 and they were playing "There and Back". I bought it on the spot. Star Cycle on the album has Jan on drums, and he was outstanding. Of course Jeff was too. This live performance is great, but the album performance is "tight, tight, tight!!!"
Are you serious? Only 6 minutes of musical genius? Please. There MUST be more somewhere.
Jan Hammer Rulez!!!! and Jeff Beck of course too!
These two legends seem to be having a time of their lives -
This was used as the theme tune to the brilliant U.K. music show “The Tube” back in the 80’s!
There's Jan... putting out incredible music, completely unassuming in his striped polo shirt. All substance, no style. It's beautiful.
Jan played the drums on the album.
Thank you Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer for all you gave the world, saw these two at the Orpheum in Boston around '77 incredible show, of course Jan was on a Moog at the time, maybe why he blacks out the Korg name, don't get them free why advertise the brand! Now rest those fingers now Mr. Beck, we all love you!
Holy shit this made me smile.
Back when musical superheroes dominated the concert venues and radio airwaves.. There was Jan with either Jeff Beck, Al Dimeola or Johnny Mac,... An incredible musical genius that inspired and influenced so many of us.. So awesome to see/hear this reunion!!!!!!!
RIP Jeff.
Unreal .. . I saw these 2 in Brisbane Australia in the late 70s … they were both surreal and unreal then … in any era f.’ing unbelievably good and both play like there’s nothing to it :) … for them that’s got to be true
YEAH same here mate i think Robin Trower was on the Monday night and JEFF was on the Wednesday same week..Festival Hall.
Likewise - I saw that same tour in Sydney, February 77 at the Hordern Pavilion- Beck and Hammer brilliant and I believe Beck joined Trower on-stage at Trower's show in Sydney Feb 77😊🎹🎸
If you just stumbled upon this, I welcome you! R.I.P Jeff Beck” Give me a break, I suspect not!!!!
RIP JEFF!!
Rest in peace Mr Beck. You have done more than your fair share of making the masses happy. The world misses you already. Love and peace from a fellow Englishman.
That kicked ass!
Two of the greatest musicians that ever lived
Thank you for posting this! Love the drummer! I don't know if he inspires me or makes me want to quit ! Please watch Jonathan Joseph on other videos, absolutely amazing ! People should listen to Jan Hammer's early recordings especially the ECM stuff ! We are so lucky to have heard Jan Hammer in our lifetime! I will never forget the Detroit show with Jan, Al Di Meola ,Steve Gadd, Mingo Lewis !! Crazy town !!!
Simply amazing Jeff Beck.
Finesse and power
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pretty funky for a couple of old geezers.
The whole band are clearly having a great time.
Jeff and his bands usually look like they're having a great time. They laugh and joke and tease each other, and generally stay loose while simultaneously being tight as a frog's ass. They also communicate with each other throughout a show, watching and listening and responding in real time.
Man, Jan Hammer looks so, hmm, normal. Just like anyone's dad or grandpa. Just so happens he's a badass ground breaking keyboard player that just happens to look like your old dad going out to water the tomato plants.
As a musician, Jeff Beck has inspired me endlessly. One of a kind.
SO good. Nobody else like them. RIP Jeff.
A very lot are technically way better - J-Beck was/is always overrated. 50%+ of his performances based on using all kinds equipment technic/special noisy sounds/effects and top mixing. Rest is common oldschool blues/rock-scales and chords, not very progressive. He always takes top guest musicans with better musical skills than he has, most songs are old covers so you can`t do antything wrong or take a risk. But have to say he is/was a very good bandleader and knows how to arrange old stuff and modernize it.
@@carstenmanz302 what an absolute loser you are.
@carsten manz: your opinion is blown to atom by the opinions of every signifiuant guitarist from Hendrix to McLaughlin, and practically every musician who was privileged to work with JB.
You are a pathetic litle troll with negative musical taste, knowledge, or sophistication, & the best thing you can do for the benefit of those of us who can distinguish between the magic of JB & the dross of 95% of the _other_ guitarists of the past _sixty years_ ls crawl back under your rock & STF up.
Jeff and Jan complement each other so well
Ladies and Gentlemen feast your eyes on Jan Hammer. That's what peak musicianship looks like.
I thought that the ensemble with Tal and Vinnie was the top. I was wrong. This is gold.
Yeah they were playing along, versus this is being driven
@@wjhandy Jeff had the rare pleasure of playing with someone as mad as himself.
The setlist at Ronnie Scott's was much _jazzier_ & not as _rocky_ -- so the ensemble there was perfect. I just went back & re-listened, and the styles are radically different, but the musicianship is every bit as superb. After all, R.S.'s is a premier _jazz_ club.
As good as it gets. Unbelievable.
All that can be said is Wow!Love this!🥂💙
I'm learning guitar and I've loved Jeff since the 70s. He's got the most incredible right hand. It sets him apart.
The pure joy on Jan and Jeff's faces is awesome! I was thankful to see Jeff a number of times. I wish could have seen Jan too. And that song, every time I watch this video, gives me the chills!
Great band too! Jonathan kicked ass on the Drums.
I miss Jeff. ♥
Just Great Music from Great Musicians!
Saw them both in the '70s at the Perth Entertainment Centre, from a front row seat.🎸
Fabulous and fantastic, thanks, good time for you
Saw Jan every time he came to Detroit with all the groups- all supremely focused and transcendental!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
