Kevin by far was my favourite on the show. And just seeing him here proves he is exactly the kind of person he portrayed.
May he fly forever and be the great mentor to young enthusiasts as shown here!💕
Kevin was my favourite too! Wish someone would do Airplane Repo again, it was a great show. Can always live in hope
WHAT a job…what a career…and what a BUNCH OF STORIES. Kevin could make a movie..WAY TO GO Kev! THE Best of all on that show..
Kevin Lacey was my favorite "character" on Airplane Repo. He was the only guy who knew how to FIX airplanes and then fly them. I'm sure a lot of that show was pure fiction or re-enactments, but Kevin was still my favorite guy.
the entire show was fake.
Mike Kennedy fixed and flew them too
What a legend, typical Texan attitude, got to love Kevin, I could listen to him all day
I could too! He reminds me of guys I grew up with and looked up to. I hadn't seen anything about him for awhile until I saw him do an interview on another youtube channel then saw he had a book out so I bought the kindle version after reading great reviews and I can say so far just from the 1st few pages, I think its going to be one of those books I can't put down!
He's an Okie..that now lives in Texas
Loved the interview with Kevin Lacey - miss the TV show. Thanks for revealing a most worthy endeavor. Kevin is making a difference in the lives of those young adults.
I miss that show BIG TIME. #bringbackairplanerepo
Kevin is the man. Need more aviators like him!
Really enjoyed this video! Got my A&P in 1970, after 4 years as a helicopter mechanic in the USAF, and another few months working at a small Cessna dealer. Took written at the FAA office, withe the practical examiner coming to the shop. Three years later, after a grueling 9 hour day at the FSDO, I was the youngest AI they ever certified. Traded maintenance for flight instructions. Those were the days!
I could listen to Kevin’s stories all day . Ordering his book.
Great episode!
Excellent episode Dan and Christy. Kevin sounds like a really great guy. Its awesome he is doing so much for the kids and the future of aviation. Thank you for having him on the show. Keep up the excellent work. Safe skies my friends 🇺🇸🛩️
great story. In 1978 I learned to fly at " Dallas North airport" in Plano, TX; an airport that has disappeared into a condo complex. It was just South fo Aero Country. In the late 70s, anybody in the middle class, if they wanted to, could learn how to fly and own small aircraft. I paid $12/hr for the C150 and $3/hr for the CFI. Those days are gone.
I paid $10/$10 (plane, instructor) for my ticket in 1973 while in high school. You are absolutely right about the cost today. My dad was a carpenter and on what he earned back then not only did he raise a family and buy a home he also owned a 1962 Comanche 250. Most of his friends that hung out at the airport on weekends and had airplanes were construction workers like him. As a blue collar worker you couldn't do that today no matter what.
Love what Kevin is doing. Thank you for the visit with him.
“ Pin C and B on this Canon plug…” love it! There are young ones still interested in physical problem solving, the challenge is showing them what is possible. Thank you all for making a difference in so many ways.
In 1980 we could rent a Cessna 152 for $15.00 an hour wet at a local FBO. Add a pilot and it was $25.00 an hour. At the local college flight school you could get a half hour free for washing one of their Cessna 150’s. Teledyne Continental would pay for your flying lessons and they’d let you take one of their Cessna 172’s for the weekend along with a Shell credit card and you just paid a flat fee based on the Hobbs hour meter. God I miss those days!
In the early 90’s a 152 was $35 an hour wet. Now the avgas cost that much.
@@MishMashMotoindeed, that was what I paid. And about $42 for the 172.
Some of the biggest problems within the aviation industry is government, lawyers and the education industry. Education industry is a problem not only for aviation but virtually everything else in as much as it consists of paying someone a tremendous amount of money for being indoctrinated and then given a piece of paper. Thank you Kevin Lacey and others like you. That is how I did id some 60+ years ago.
Government is the problem with everything
Awesome, love that show, wish they would do a remake… great content as always TakingOff… 100k is right there!
Scripted AF, so so fake
Yes, it’s all fake.
@@FlyingNDrivingyep, pretty silly situations at time but I did really enjoy his book, he worked his way up in aviation by becoming an A&P like I did. His “tolerance” for risk it quite a bit higher than mine which makes his stories pretty interesting.
😅
Yes it is because hours and hours of looking at logbooks and negotiating agreements would make a boring show
Sweat equity is the way, hard work is rewarding in so many ways. Back in my youth I drove a airport fuel truck, not sure why they let a kid drive a truck around aircraft but I loved every minute, met an amazing man who had a 1948 Fairchild 24 and spent my off hours rebuilding the Ranger 6 engine with him. He was so patient with me learning safety wiring, had to redo so much before I got the technique down. I learned to fly in that airplane, flying into the Nut Tree or the Half Moon Bay airport for lunch. I never got my PPL due to me going off to college. I have to say that I learned so many life lessons from that experience, much greater than just aviation but how navigate the world, how to be a man, a gentleman, to be useful and make a difference. Thank you Al Kaler for giving me direction and being an exceptional role model.
Got to meet Kevin at the air races a few years ago. Awesome guy!
This is just fantastic. No one better than a couple of seasoned pilots to train up the next round. Enjoyed airplane repo and enjoyed this interview even more... Keep up the great work!
Wonderful video with great stories. Thank you all
Awesome show. Thank you!
Very Cool guy ! I love the fact that he is training young adults to do the work most kids don't want to do ! I Just bought his book.
Super Video you guys! Great to see Captain Lacey and listen to his passion.
What a cool guy. Wish there were guys like him around when I was a kid.
Fantastic Life, thank you for helping the kids!
Great interview and awesome job with the kids in T31!
That's one of the best interviews I think taking off as ever done I have really enjoyed listen to Kevin Kevin is a great man
Loved the show !!!! Love to see more 😊😊
Kevin Lacey is my FAVORITE Aviator! I am a 52 y/o commercial pilot, he is a fine man!!!!
Kevin is an amazing guy and a great Mentor,,, Keep up the great work!!
Thanks for the video! It is nice to know that there are still some people out there that want to build the community while still making a buck and not screwing everyone else over! I learned that one the hard way...
These stories are great. Sounds like aviation was a whole lot more fun, welcoming, and cheaper back then. In the last 20 years, it seems there is a big push to keep anyone who isn't interested in flying professionally out... Kinda disgusting how many people are onboard with this sentiment. I'm in AZ, and it's hard to find a place where you can get a BFR if you're not enrolled as a student in some program. The places who aren't doing this either won't call back, or their planes are junky and a little concerning.
What an awesome interview. How flying was and should be.
Always been fascinated by what kevin does in that show ❤️🇬🇧
Wonderful story and interview 🙏🏆
I enjoyed this show , I wish it was still available to watch . Good luck Kevin .
Its on discovery app
Met Kevin at Osh twice always super nice to talk to.
Good morning from Minnesota! Kevin is the last of a disappearing breed!!
I Didn't Know He Wrote A Book. I'll Have To Check That Out. My Wife Bought Me The First Two Seasons Of Airplane Repo But We Can't Find The Third One. Thank You.
👍✅ Great episode Dan and Christy, Kevin is a caracter.
Well done Thumbs up 👍
Great interview!!!
Fantastic interview
My first airplane was a 1946 Taylorcraft BC12D. Wonderful airplanes!
Great episode!
15:33 “Eatin beer and drinkin pizza…” 😂 I caught that!
One of my faves long before i had an interest in flying wish they would bring the show back
old school love the guy and the repo show
Kevin bring back Airplane repo. Great show .
Impressive man, so down to earth and a true welcome wagon driver for young people.
This guy is a legend in his own time . Loved watching Kevin and listening to him. Wouldve loved to have had him as a mentor and to just hang with him.
Outstanding individual !!
Real life adventures captured on video as they happen. That's what makes it so interesting.
I think the program like the one Kevin has setup is awesome... Wish I had been able to be around "old heads" like him doing a program like that when I was a kid... Also as far as the having issues with the A&P shortage or having A&P's that actually want to work... There are plenty out there with some great experience and darn hard workers... If only it wasn't such a PITA to transition from military service to civilian maintenance..
I miss the airplane repo show, was so entertaining.
Kevin, what a legend!
Book ordered.
That was priceless
Kind of like the hay days of avation
Using a prop from another aircraft
Only kid could do that and having a vet see his prop missiy
And helping kids to grow in life is priceless as well
Remember the college were I received my private pilot license from was around 1500 in flight cost. A WW 2 vet head of the avation Department and teacher as well
Have to love life at times remember getting to learn how to spot trailer's and never been in pick up much less a 18 wheeler. Much less ever back a trailer
Just a hour or two of training at most and let loose.
Was amazing what real drivers could do in just a minute at most taking me 1/2 hour to do.
God you have you have to love war story's as they say from a mother to a dish washer
There just amazing
His book is just got to be amazing
I met him at KAFW airshow, just recognized him from the show. Interesting guy. He is 'All about aviation from the roots on up.' Live near T31 see acft inbd to there.
Your awesome I work at a Cessna pilot Center Addison airport early 80s I was probably 19 at the time.Your right about theCost of getting your certs..I was young kid overwhelmed with the cost.
what a great guy!
I love his show. This guy Flys anything. And that is badd ass.
Great job on how your microphone position Kevin, that’s how it’s done. Miss the show sir!
I would love to "Eat Beer and Drink Pizza" with Kevin just one time. Seems like such a great dude and I'm sure there are a TON of amazing stories.
This was Good
I agree with Kevin- as a student you should know starting out how to work on an airplane like a Cessna 150 type to know everything about the plane ! Then learn to fly it as well- I flew one but never had the opportunity to get my license full on..
Would love to meet Kevin some day. I'm here in N. Tx. Loved watching his show when it was on the air.
I met him at an event in Conroe. I gotta tell you he has got some great stories. I could sit there and drink a beer and listen to him tell stories all day long. D
A really down-to-earth guy.
Love it.
This is so true Back then I just started the engine on an unfamiliar plane and flew it Somehow I survived
I could listen to Kevin all day... miss the show
That’s exactly why the owner of the shop I worked had a grass strip to eliminate the wheel hop. He still laughed @ me.
Kevin is so awesome! I hope one day I’m able to meet him. I’m down for some sweat equality to get my PPL. Doubt anyone around me is interested in that kinda thing.
Time will never change and stop for any person.
I was impressed with the skills of the man.
✊🏻Kevin!
Let me make the world a better place by shining my light today.
Be great have that for adults wanting career change/ life path change what he is doing great.
“the da-gum runway” this was a fun one to listen to 😆😆
This program & what they do is the real deal. And Kevin Lacy is no joke..
As someone who grew up in GA and spent almost 40 years as an AMT for a major airline at a major Maintenance Depot the A & P Crisis is real. I predict that it will get a lot worse for GA because they will be competing with the Airlines for the Available A & P's in the market. A senior AMT at a Major Airline now earns about $60.00 / HR plus Benefits. GA cannot or will not be able to compete with that. The Major Airlines have a huge number of A & P's Retiring in the next 3-5 years that will create an even bigger demand for A & P's.
Just got my A&P in April.. I’m currently Active Duty AMT with the coast guard. With 60$ an hour it’s hard to want to stay with the military. My future is looking good but uncertain 👍🏻
@@CalVlogz In your situation I would apply with all the Major Airlines starting about 90 days before your discharge date. The Majors are currently experiencing a very high number of retirements and will be for the next 3-5 years.
I love that show , long no more on tv here in Holland.
So is that no wing airplane event where that got the scene at the New Orleans airport for Live and Let Die ?😂
I love what you are doing God Bless You and your family
I'm a pilot And worked in Alaska on Aircraft , I would Love too help you with something
I have always liked ole Kev ever since the show came out, if you are ever doing a repo at Statesville Regional Airport in Statesville, NC. I live right next to it and would love to meet or assist you in any way I can.
Things were different but things always change. In 1983 it cost me $1700 for my private certificate.
Loving the interviews with the amazing folk you guys get to stop and have a talk with. Have you considered converting interviews across to a podcast for us fools that spend more time at work than relaxing?
You should check out the TakingOff podcast! LOL. On spotify, apple, amazon and here RUclips on the Podcast playlist
@@TakingOff I have clearly had a man look... My bad.. Oops.
Big Dawg Kevin
"Aircraft Repo" was one of my favorite shows - what always amazed me was how he had the skills to fly so many different kinds of aircraft. I also had wondered if Kevin Lacy was related to Clay Lacy. I worked for Associated Air Center over at Love Field until the company shut down in 2017 and one of our regular customers was Clay Lacy. I guess is safe to say that BOTH Clay Lacy AND Kevin Lacy are aviation legends. Clay Lacy made a very good documentary movie in 2005 called One Six Right showcasing the Van Nuys airport and of course Clay Lacy was involved in movies, so that's why I have wondered if Clay and Kevin were related.
That show was so hilarious and I couldn't get enough of it. I felt like they were purposely trying to see what ding dongs would believe that weren't in aviation.
Has american united delta or south west had any of there planes reposed do to non payment
amazing how theres a camera in the wheel well on the tail wing nose cockpit on those repos
and theres always some kind of emergency on takeoff and security just misses there chance
The show was pretty much hangar flying stories brought to life! Pretty fun once I looked at it that way👍
I enjoyed his show, but it wasn't until he repaired/flew the private jet that i was even more impressed.
Not many pilots can also work on their own aircraft.
I had no idea Kevin was out of AeroCountry!
I wish there was a sweat equity way a 50+ with a mechanical aptitude could get his ticket!
I used to know a lot of older pilots who thought the third wheel is always at the back and did not understand what all the fuss is about tail wheel. I think it might be the insurance doing that. For a pilot trained in recent Cessna, it is less difficult to transition to tail wheel than someone train in regular car and have to drive with a clutch. turbines are even easier to fly than piston , especially the new ones with FADEC, but they have more aux systems, if you can fly a well equipped Bonaza, you should have no trouble flying a Caravan by just reading the manual the night before. A big problem with older turbines is hot start, FADEC took care of that.
I need to work for Kevin, I need an airplane, best thing is ; his talking we will never get anything done
Kevin lacley are cool dude 👊🏾
I need a new episode of airplane repo
I love this shoe airplane repo
I would recommend anyone who is interested in aeroplanes to read Kevins book 'fly it like you stole it', its a real insight into how he started his career and the many different paths it took down the years, a real interesting guy he is.
He had a dream life , sounds like he had a dream mentor too!!!!
