Its actually quite shocking to hear this story. The bigger picture is also that quite a lot of ppl out there treat other ppl like that. What on earth was Capello thinking- sosiopaths do such things
@lcjh even if so, as a human you should have enough respect for others to let them do what’s most important for them. Fair enough about Capello asking about training, maybe he thought there was a possibility than Ben would stay. But then to lie to Ben and say he would play, and then not even play him for a minute, was just cruel. He was toying with Ben and using the promise of a cap, which is one of life’s prides as a footballer, as a means of keeping Ben away from his family. I think that’s what OP is referring to.
Italian culture is different. In the grand scheme of things, it is actually unusual for men to be present for the birth across the world. It's nothing more than cultural insensitivity. Fozzy has said that he wasn't prepared to live solely for football, hence why he didn't make it at ManU, and that's fine, but it's also fine if a national team coach expects that of his players. Banning ketchup seems small-time and trivial, especially given it's unlikely to have much influence in an international break, but one could also reasonably argue that if playing for your national team is truly a proud experience for you as Foz claims, you might deal with not having condiments for a few days. Capello was rubbish, but this wasn't the reason why.
Never liked Capello and never liked that era of England's football, but.... to be fair to Fabio, I do recall him attending a fairly meaningless England game when his family member died (I forget who exactly, his Mum?) so at least he stood by his own strict rules. Problem was, it was always the wrong approach and he didn't stick with his team selection rules in choosing perfromance over reputation.
I knew Ben was going to say that Capello didn't play him in the second half of that game. He just did it to assert authority and to see how Foster would react. Sack of a manager to be fair, and awful for England so speaks volumes. Ben's a decent guy, would be fun being in a team with him.

If most football fans didn't prioritise football over their family, the stadiums would be empty. A season ticket costs the same as a family holiday.
It’s a bit like me! I work in a Railway station but they’re are people really excited about the serial number on the side of a train or platform bench and spend all day recording it in their notebooks.
It seems strange and kinda overthinking things so I can imagine this is how the players feel about the constant analysis overthinking and jargon such “the press” and “ticky tacky” or whatever……
@@paulie-gnah you're mad for this one. Regardless of standards you still treat your people with respect, or you lose theirs.
@@JoshAFC The bit where Capello didn't put him on when he was told he would play is the bit that's disrespectful, not the ketchup or the birth.
Foster really gives off good vibes the sort of guy you’d want to have on a night out sounds like a top guy👏🏼
Foster seems like a top lad. Never really took him seriously when he played for us at Utd. Seems a nice & funny bloke.

@Boring Name He won a title 14 years ago and has hardly managed since. He's not going to win anything with England or Russia is he lol.
@Boring Name he became England manager about 14 years ago which is when he is talking about. Still world's apart from McClaren even then.
@Boring Name They hadn't won it the 3 previous years. It wasn't the Galacticos, it wasn't a great squad at all by Real standards. He was the 1 season and won the league lol.
International football is semi-retirement. Have you considered he didn't want another job?
England are a joke. It's hilarious watching them fail horribly at every single tournament. They haven't beaten a big country in a knockout game at a tournament since 1996 kek. And European qualifying for tournaments is a joke. There's no point to the England football team's exisence.
@Boring Name It's very relevant when you implied it was an easy job which guaranteed success. You also wrongly said it was the Galactico era, which it wasn't. It was the post-Galactico era, the squad was an ageing, disjointed wreck.
He literally said when he took over England that it would be his last job lol. His record speaks for itself. Unlike Foster's, who was an average player who accomplished nothing significant.
Why would a manager from a big footballing country have any affinity for another footballing country? England were stupid enough to hire a foreign manager who couldn't even speak their language because they were so desperate and there was such a dearth of good managers in their country.
They're simple facts. And I'm not sure you can be prejudiced or xenophobic against your own country lol. Italy, France, Portugal (x2), Argentina, Uruguay, Croatia, Brazil, Germany. Every single time we meet a decent side in the knockouts we lose.
