When my daughters got married both of them and husbands believe when couples cut the cake they think its disrespectful to their new partner to smear the cake. Why would you do that to the person you're supposed to love?

Fellow Mennonite here and depending on which type of Mennonite someone is plays a huge role in how weddings go. In my former church I've seen like your sister's wedding but also seen weddings a lot more like non Mennonites facier weddings. Personally I'd prefer to keep it simple, small wedding (maybe 50 people) during nicer weather then have a bbq and enjoy a bonfire as the reception. Thanks to you, your sister and brother in law for sharing their special day with us

In my opinion the Mennonite way of doing weddings is really fantastic. It allows the bride a lot of creativity in how to set things up without costing a fortune. There is also a sense of community in how everyone gets involved in helping it to happen. I had a small brunch for 50 people for my wedding and this was after seeing how much friends had spent on their weddings. The amount of money spent by some could actually be a down payment for house.

Warms my heart to see such a beautiful family who loves the Lord. I’m watching this a year later just as you say your sister is 20 weeks pregnant with twins, I presume it is Janan? What a beautiful weekend you shared with us but a huge thank you to Janan & Kyle for sharing their beautiful wedding day. Janan was stunning, her dress was simple but oh so elegant & I loved the Vans they made it perfect kinda wish I had worn Vans or Converse but I’m under 5ft and my husband is just over 6 so 3 inch heels for me that actually were comfortable on as I’m used to wearing shoes that height or should I say I was used to it. A note I take away from mennonite weddings to our wedding is that I set up our reception hall with my friends, I made the decorations for the tables, little gold and cream hearts that said “I love you, be mine etc “ on them and I had hand painted all 300 of them. Our tables were just cream with a runner of gold organza doubled then knotted in a heart at the bottom of the tables. My flowers were simple white roses, my sister was my matron of honour and she didn’t want a bouquet so she had a corsage on her jacket as she wore a beautiful expensive cream trouser suit , my niece wore red & gold because it was a beautiful dress she had worn once so I just said yes because I just wanted to Marry my love. We didn’t have a religious wedding , we didn’t do a sit down meal because some folk didn’t want it, our caterers were late so my sister, David & some friends helped us set it out then away then back out at night and at the end of the evening 1am my husband, sister & brother in law and my niece and I cleaned the whole place just leaving the bar tenders to was their glasses and do their stock, we had all worked in the hospitality industry, running bars, restaurants, hotels etc and we had a wild wedding full if fun, love & good music and it’s been 16 years come June and everyone still talks about it. Our wedding will always have a very bittersweet ending as my mum was too poorly to come to the wedding ( she was religious but knew why we didn’t want a religious wedding) and sadly she died 8 days after our wedding while we were on a month long honeymoon. My last words to her were that I loved her and on the day of her funeral I was given permission to go into the local Mosque who had been sending out prayers for us and my mums soul and it was a very special place to be at the exact time her funeral was at in Scotland 🏴. I wish Janan & Kyle a life full of love , devotion & happiness. I also wish the very same you Megan. I loved the bridesmaid dresses, I have to say Velvet & Rust/Brown is just beautiful 🩷🩷

I'm glad I was able to see the "happenings" of a Mennonite wedding! Not to get gloomy or anything but my father was born and raised in Cleveland Ohio and I was born and raised in Oregon, I know, world's away from each other! Anyway, he passed away when I was 13 and I'm now in my late 50's. My Mom said that he had both Amish and Mennonite family members, so as you were going about your schedule, all I could think about was my father's family and how they probably had weddings quite similar to your sisters! I am the youngest sister so I have zero reference as far as helping your little sister but I'd just like to say that you were a HUGE help to her! Well done 👍❤️❤️

So cool to see, thank you for sharing 🥰 what a gorgeous wedding. I read in a personal finance book (a few years ago!) that the average wedding in the USA is just north of 30,000. Yikes! Well, you all have that "look" without the high price tag!!!! My reception was around 10k after all was said and done and we didn't have any flowers or decorations. Yours looked BEAUTIFUL and it's all thanks to the amazing talent of your community...I'm blown away and a little jealous of all your amazing skills, and close knit community that comes together to support each other 🥰. I noticed your handwriting on the table signs. Too cute! Also love your new bedroom, I'll have to watch that makeover vid and take some tips because my bedroom is sad. It's literally gray carpet, white walls, a bed, 2 end tables and 2 pictures of me and my husband, in a huge room with vaulted ceilings 😅 I need some decorating inspo!! Wow! I can't get used to these short weddings!! In the culture where I come from (Amish) it's a three day affair from set up to tear down! The wedding day is from dawn till 10 pm!! This seems so super short and easy😄

It is fun to see what a Mennonite wedding in your area looks like. My husband grew up Mennonite so he has been to many Mennonite weddings prior to me. I was and still am a Lutheran and we got married in a Lutheran church. My husband is now a Lutheran and are children were raised Lutheran!
I think that was one of the most beautiful weddings I’ve ever seen! Your sister’s dress was gorgeous and the colors chosen were perfect!👍🏼 I’ve never been a fan of the over-the-top, elaborate and “froo froo” type of weddings. I pray they have many happy, healthy years together🙏
that is interesting! Here in the US..the bride will pick someone special out of her group of girls and is called a Maid of honor (or Matron, if married) and then bridesmaids. The Maid (or Matron) of Honor usually has more responsibilities that the others at the wedding.

I live in a part of Canada with a big Mennonite population, so I’m not sure if they have (positively) influenced our ways but we are also super frugal! Our rehearsal dinner was just a bbq in my in-law’s backyard and we all played soccer with the kids. The actual wedding was also very inexpensive, but still pretty.
We had a winter wedding! Spent about $1500 including my dress. It was lovely! Your sisters wedding was so beautiful. I loved the colors she used and all the florals, so so pretty! Love your videos. 🖤

Beautiful wedding. When my kids got married the rehearsals were not extravagant. Everyone wore casual clothing. One had a pizza party after and the other one was at a restaurant, it was middle of the summer so it was on the patio. Very relaxed.

Here in the UK a married bridesmaid is called a 'matron of honour'! Evonnie's hair was so pretty.
that is interesting! Here in the US..the bride will pick someone special out of her group of girls and is called a Maid of honor (or Matron, if married) and then bridesmaids. The Maid (or Matron) of Honor usually has more responsibilities that the others at the wedding.
@@emmib1388 we have that in the UK too - either maid of honour or chief bridesmaid and same with extra responsibilities.

Wedding rehearsals I've always been to have been very casual. ..
I live in a part of Canada with a big Mennonite population, so I’m not sure if they have (positively) influenced our ways but we are also super frugal! Our rehearsal dinner was just a bbq in my in-law’s backyard and we all played soccer with the kids. The actual wedding was also very inexpensive, but still pretty.

Even though I'm not Mennonite (but I am a Believer), it was quite similar to what you and Jayna described your weddings as being. My sister actually sewed my wedding dress and we also had a bring and share lunch wedding so more of our friends and their children could come! Beautiful wedding. When my kids got married the rehearsals were not extravagant. Everyone wore casual clothing. One had a pizza party after and the other one was at a restaurant, it was middle of the summer so it was on the patio. Very relaxed.
