Dude seriously...I kinda fell off the wagon after AYDY. Checked out the records after but didn't feel the same connection as the first 4. I have posters of Alexi on my walls since like 05 still on my wall in the same place they've been 15 years. Thought Hexed was phenomenal and piqued my interest again but by then it was far too late 😔

This Band had a huge impact on my life especially in my younger years, I was maybe 15 when I first heard them and as a young metalhead and guitarist, Alexi blew my mind, I would listen to him play and always dreamed that some day I would be able to play like him, his leads and solos are not only very technical and difficult to play but could have been written by a classical composer. such an unreal amount of talent. I remember watching them play kissing the shadows live at about 17 years old and his solo in that would just continuously blow my mind and still does now at 32 years old. I also struggle with much of the same issues that sadly ended his life, I hope I don't meet the same fate as he did but its no joke once this type of stuff gets out of hand. I only found out he died a few days ago and it really hit me hard. one of the most talented guitarists to ever live.

    • @aserdogman
      @aserdogman 5 месяцев назад

Gonna be 30 this year. Alexi has been a huge inspiration to me as well. I spent countless hours learning the Dowfall solo. After I managed to match Alexi’s speed, I stopped playing for a long time. I guess I burned out. Picked guitar back a couple years ago and now trying to learn Vivaldi Summer (Alexi also played it on a viral video at a time).
I have my own issues maybe similar to yours and thiose of Alexi. Playing guitar takes the urge away. It really helps and heals in a way. If you can - try playing every time you think you are about to snap. Hope you are doing fine and keeping the demons at bay. Stay safe and have a beautiful life

I saw COB once in my life in 2013.
Ran into them (not by accident) the night before the show and we spent the whole night drinking and partying alongside medeia and decapitated..didn't get to meet Alexi or Janne (they stayed in) so i could show him i got his ESP tattooed on my arm..
I did get first row in the show tho, right in front of them and man the thing i remember the most, is that i must have listened to every song they have about 1,000 times easy. watching them play i was SO BLOWN AWAY i couldnt for the life of me name the songs they were playing.
the whole venue was jumping up and down for the other bands and when bodom came on everyone was so MEZMERIZED they didnt even flinch much less headbang.
to top it off encore was my fav song/alexi saw the tattoo flicked a pick at me/ almost 30 and i still got it.
i'll never forget that night. so sad i didnt get to actually meet him.

Never was a huge CoB fan, but I've always appreciated his talent. Im more into the Swedish Melo Death, and a forms of black metal. Some of the best black metal bands are from Finland. CoB definitely stood out amongst the Scandinavian Metal scene in general. He created some great technical melodic metal. They do things differently in Scandinavia, the Govs actually support and encourage the children to learn music at an early age. It's also a huge contribution as to why there's so many great metal bands throughout Scandinavia. It sucks that he passed, but I'm also really convinced that Keith Richards will out live every musician ever! The man has probably went through 5 livers by now! He has to practice some kind of sorcery. The man has binged with the best of them, alcohol, cocaine, heroin you name it. He's been strung out on them all. He's managed to outlive a lot of musicians who haven't lived half the life of Kieth Richards. Him and Ozzy shall live forever! Alexi had a good run, and Ive only truly came to the realization how much of an influence his playing has been for ppl. He was truly gifted..

Man, I can't believe another influential musician and guitarist has passed away. I'm not sure what he passed away from but it said health issues but I wonder if it's alcohol related? In recent years as I would see interviews of Alexi I always thought to myself that he looks sick, or something wasn't right w/ him health wise. My first "real" guitar was in 2007 I got a LTD alexi-600 black w/ solid yellow around the wings of the V. I actually had no idea who he was I just thought the guitar looked awesome when I saw the guitarist from Animosity using it. I asked their guitarist Frank Costa he told me it's Alexi's new signature model. I got the guitar as a graduation present. I looked up Alexi and COB and I instantly recognized them because Dustin Dollin used their song, Downfall, for his skate part in Baker3. I been a fan of Alexi ever since. Shred in Peace, brother.🤘🏾🎸🍻

RIP Alexi, You are missed, I hope you're resting somewhere that's metal as fuck and has alcohol. 🖤🤘 I'm SOOOO glad I got to see you guys at Mayhem Fest in 2013 at Montage Mt in Scranton, PA.

@Too metal for you Whoa dude, what you said is sick in alot of ways. You want him to go to a peaceful, lovely place with the poison that killed him. Don't you find that a strange statement?

@@danhill9952 No, I do not. First I'm not a dude, and second, alcohol is how he *CHOSE* to live his life. If he was an alcoholic, then maybe it wasn't as much of a choice. Regardless, it's what he did and I only meant that I hope he has what he wants, wherever he is resting. It was meant in love, not hate. RIP Alexi 🖤🥺 You are missed. 🤘

he's one of my spirit guides (the most recent one) and he is basically in what he considers his heaven; a lakeside wooden cabin. and yes, with a drink, and last time he was having a music session just relaxing with Trevor Strnad from The Black Dahlia Murder. They played a similar type of music, were of a similar age, their deaths were not too far apart, so they are energetically linked. His idea of heaven was also a lakeside cottage (he came from Michigan, they both grew up around lakes)

I remember when I first began listening to COB in the year 2,000. I heard their blue album Follow the Reaper and I was like, no band can play better music than these guys. They’re true musicians. It’s too bad they went too hard on the partying because Alexi should’ve had at least another 10 years of album making ahead of him and it’s almost like the reaper truly was following him that whole time. Hope your soul is at peace Alexi🤘🏼

CoB is not my no. 1 band, although back in the day I used to listen to them everyday, and the fact that bunch of 20 yo boys can come up with something like Follow the Reaper or Hatebreeder is just beyond imagination. You don't get that today.

Alexi lived the rockstar lifestyle. Live fast, die young describes his life perfectly. Follow the Reaper is my favorite album from COB. Just a perfect fuse between their earlier neo classical thrash metal roots and the later melodic death metal/death core we hear on their later albums. It was probably the album where the band were at the top of their game in terms of chops as well.
