Thanks Tiffany. I love your videos and your philosophy.
Success for me is making something I feel proud of, and that goal keeps rising as I master new skills.
I am in my 70s (a long time hobby artist), and took up pottery two years ago. I enjoy learning and trying new things. Some things work out, others don’t. The failures push me to try more. My problem is the accumulation of art and pots. Friends and family can only cope with so much, and I’m running out of room.
Two weeks ago i had my first market stall, ever, at our local weekly market, and today was my second. It was a lot of work, but fun talking to people and seeing what they liked. I was delighted to sell 2 paintings and 24 pots the first time, and 30 more pots today.
Now I have a more room andI can start making madly again, and after talking to others , I have a whole lot of new ideas to try.
I live near the coast in Western Australia so have been making outdoor decor; fish, seals, seagulls, penguins , seahorses, wind surfers, frogs etc. and beach style mugs etc. We also have lots of lovely coloured native birds and beautiful native flowers that I want to try and incorporate into my work as well. Not enough hours in the day!

That's such a wonderful story! I love that you're keeping at it and still learning. I see things exactly the same. My biggest fear is that I'll die before I get to make all the pots that I want to. Awesome about your show and the things you learned to take with you. I just love this sooo much!

Hope you get better soon Tiffany. I live in the UK and have, like you, been through the wars. Just had open heart surgery, recovering well, fibromyalgia, it goes on and on. I've always been the most active person....I never sit still. These art/pottery/crafting tutorials have been my life-line for the past couple of years as I've had to stop charging around like a maniac. Although I am still able to do some work (I'm a draughtsperson and have my own business) being able to learn and make things has been life saving. So, I thank you and other artists for your wonderful tutorials. For some of us they help get us up in the mornings.....something to look forward to. Really hope you recover soon....so frustrating not being able to do the things you love...... eat your spinach and get strong 😄😂🥰

I taught special education for 19 years and had to go on disability in 2010 due to several health issues. I get the frustration of not being able to do what you want to do and your body not cooperating. Good luck with your healing journey! We will be strong enough to do the things we love! I've found knitting and sewing hobbies, especially knitting. I don't know what I'd do without something to do with my hands!

It was so nice spending this time with you Tiffanie. This information is truly invaluable. After 3 years of doing pottery I’ve finally reached a point where I’m ready to begin selling my pots. Your ideas spark even more ideas as I’m listening to you! Without overstepping boundaries would you be willing to break down what monthly use of your studio costs and what all you include with it? I have a full studio in the lowest level of my home and have never contemplated letting other people utilize my equipment, glazes etc. Also, we didn’t discuss in any of my college classes how much you charge for commissioned mugs you sell to a coffee shop. And if a local store lets you sell your pottery, what do the percentages look like? I’d love if you did a series of informative videos like this. You have such a gift of being both an amazing artist but also a fantastic teacher! 💜💜💜🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼Sending positive, healing vibes out into the cosmos for you. Take care of yourself!

This is a realllly great video Tiffany!! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this for all of us! I feel sooo bad seeing you in that sling. You are in my prayers and I pray you get well and heal perfectly! I love how you said that you’re making pots and doing what you love and not chasing the money! I believe the same way! Making pots and enjoying myself comes first! If I were worried about making money from my pottery it wouldn’t be fun anymore. I spend most of my days making pots and I am soo incredibly happy being able to do that! I love teaching and the only way I’ve been able to do that up till now is by helping people online. Giving them tips and tricks as I watch videos and potters have problems with this or that. I get so much out of helping people. I’ve been doing pottery since 1999 and have a ton of experience, most of it was learned by trial and error before the internet and now that we have the internet I have grown so much and I feel like I have a wealth of information to share. I was bed ridden from Lyme disease for 9 years!! Getting back into pottery after that has been an absolute life saver! I do slipcasting in the spring and fall when the garage is cool and I’m able to work in there. My husband and a friend are working on putting up much more stable shelving for my molds and now I’ll be able to organize them so much better and be much more efficient while slipcasting. I think as potters we are always evolving the way we do things or the way we create or the things we create and I absolutely LOVE that part of pottery. Best of health to you Tiffany!!

Success to me is being the best me I can be. When I’m teaching I ask the student if they are having fun. Their answer is always a resounding YES. That brings me joy. When I am selling my art (can’t call it work) I am filled with joy at seeing something I wasn’t that happy with be adored by someone. I just finished a sale this weekend as part of our annual Tri-Valley Artist Studio Tour. I worked like crazy for days cleaning and setting up my studio. I don’t have enough space to have it up all the time so it’s a lot of work to get ready. Happily I sold quite a few pieces over the 2+ days event. Several people wanted to take classes and one lady wants to collaborate on a project. She does henna art and wants to do it on pottery. I told her I would make a pot and she can paint it. I love the idea!
So glad to see you back making videos and teaching in your own way. Looking forward to the templates, too. I need to find a passive idea for myself. Stay your wonderful, positive self! I’m subscribed for a long time BTW.

I am open to making money. Thanks for your love and sharing. Keep the videos coming. Thanks and love. Owned a ceramic shop in the 1980's. Only think I did to make money was having workshops for individual groups: kids, brownie troup, women's groups. I also sold bisque to artists who wanted to paint and sell it at art fairs and bazaars.hugs....Chris

Hi Tiffinie! Good to see you again! We often seem to be on the same wave length somehow. 😅I believe in happy first, the rest second, too. It may not always be easy but it is what I go for and usually works out great! For my pottery it is a bit different, living on a very small island. No nice markets to go to, no art fairs and such. I have organized art markets here in the past because we do have many artists here on Bonaire, and they love an art market but do not want to put in the work (and it is a lot!) to organize one. Then, when someone like me tries to, they all want somethning extra, the best spot, a bigger spot, don't pay on time...bla bla bla. I wish they were all potters, we really are a different kinda people! Monetizing RUclips is a no go for me, RUclips won't allow me here on Bonaire. However, that does not get me down! For me, here on Bonaire, Facebook works best. And by now, word of mouth. Now that people now me, the amount of orders is growing and I love to make orders! I am working on stock for my first online sale, yay! And I am also working on some Pdf's that I will be selling online (about colored slips!) One more thing I like is collaborating with other artists. Again, not all of them want to, some of them are just weird lol. But for instance, there is a lovely lady who felts soaps and I make the dishes for them. They sold like crazy during the holidays. You are right, go for fun, be in a happy place and the right inspiration will find you! I wish you a smooth recovery my friend! Keep smiling! Love, Monique

I hope someday to have the courage to sell something.....so far I have given some away.

There's joy in gifting pottery. I'll do that every few years if I've got pots that hang around too long. It feels good too.

Dang, I thought I was subscribed. RUclips must have removed it. Your subscriptions went up by 1 at least. Thanks for the video. Please take care of yourself. You're so kind to put such great videos out to us. You will be getting messy soon, I hope.

I am trying to find my way in the world of pottery at some point I want to teach beginner hand built projects along with the history of hand building and all things clay. But in the mean time as I make my workshop schedule I sell online and at markets.

NCECA will be in Salt Lake in 2025! You wouldn't have to travel far. I think the deadline for presentation submissions is soon though.

Hello hope you are on the mend you have asked any other ways to sell pottery and earn a living i do reenactment shows selling my pots which is fairly successful also when i first started i earn very little at these shows because i really needed money so felt desperate to earn money but several things happened to make me think the thing i really wanted to do was make pottery and enjoy the making as soon as i went to the shows and didnt focus on earning money but enjoy the castles scenery and buzz of yhe show money started rolling in your iner feelings translate to your customers somebody else who fid a show with me didnt earn much but i told him about to not gocus on money because he was about to hive up the next time i saw him it had all turned around money is not a bad thing but it is secondary to enjoyment in whatever you do sorry i dont do punctuation it stops me writing what i am trying to say and as i am not a writer it is something
that makes me not happy good luck getting better love your vidio

I'm dyslexic so that made for easy reading. Lol, someone the punctuation gets in the way. And this is sooo true!! Your energy is very important to selling your work. High pressure sales so me cold, get someone passionate about their work shines through and I want some of whatever they are selling. So very important!
