  • Its been ages since I melted cans so lets get some melted today . I also make my biggest ingot from a 17kg cast Iron mold I had here. I'm not sure exactly how many I melted but it took me 2 days. Anyway guys have an awesome weekend and see you all on next weeks video.
    Now Guys if you Feel like supporting the channel it wont cost you a cent as you can Simply just donate some of your time. By just by allowing the ads to play through this will help out a lot and that’s how I make a bit extra revenue and the good thing is more revenue means more giveaways and more treats for the dogs👊🏻😄. A better way to support the channel is play one of my playlists on your computer before you walk away from it and let it play through that really helps as well but don’t ever feel as though you need to watch the ads if you don’t want to simply skip them and move into the video it’s completely up to you and I understand if you don’t have the time to do so👌🏻😁👍🏻.

    HOW I MIRROR FINISH A BAR
    I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

      Okay I’ll tell you what happened. I had a big box in the 44 gallon drum and when I put the large furnace lid on there it’s started to make the box smoulder so I took the box out thinking it would go out and when I turn back it was fully engulfed in flames, I found it quite humorous as I didn’t even realise until it was completely ablaze 👌🏻😁

    Brotha… I spent 10 years in bed, another couple learning to eat solid foods and walk properly. I lost over 100 lbs. Had pancreatitis 5 times, and a double neck fusion with myelopathy this year, 8+ months after the injury while lifting my 225 lb. dad after he fell. I take care of my 85 year old Dad with Parkinson’s and Congestive Heart Failure, and my 80 year old Mom (though she’s a tank, God bless her!). I’m getting there, brotha! Never giving up!
    I can’t wait to pursue the type of existence you live, it’s so beautiful! Clear skies, no Chem trails, surrounded by clean air and nature, doing what you love… God bless you!
    Thank you so much for sharing these 7 years, I want to watch every video, and will over time, haha! I only found you while recuperating from my neck surgery while when wearing a brace for 9 weeks straight 24/7. When I’m back to 100%, for the first time in 25 years, I will live my dream, and doing what you do will be a part of it! I can’t wait to learn more and get my own furnace and crucibles, and learn this great art!
    You’re the best, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!

I still work full-time shiftwork but luckily I can do a lot of my editing on nightshift but even then I struggle finishing the vids each week.
      Well enough of my rambling mate I need to go into the shed and figure out what I’m melting for next week‘s video. I’ll probably get sidetracked and spend the day drinking and doing bugger all but at least that’s not a waste of time👌🏻

    Great alternative way to reduce volume of beverage cans is to make a shredder for the out of a lawn mower, just drill a hole in the deck of the mower big enough and weld a funnel of sorts on it, then start feeding those cans in. I usually do my weekly batch on Saturdays from 5AM to 11. Great fun. My neighbors are very animated probably just glad they have such an industrious man living next to them. Greetings from Poland! ;-)
    Maybe you should consider using a hydraulic press for aluminium cans. After initial squeezing of them, you could use a press to pack them inside a tube, which diameter would be similar to inner diameter of the crucibles. This way you avoid throwing single cans to the pot while melting and speed up the process ;-)

    I've read that the alloy in cans is designed to be press formed and thus isn't the best for casting. Would be interesting to see can aluminum cast side by side with casting aluminum (broken aluminum car rims can be had fairly cheap) and, assuming there is much of a difference, if you could add something to the can aluminum to get it to cast just as well.

    Small tip! To save on gas, time and handwork put the crushed cans in a small oil barrel (made out of steel). Then put firewood around the barrel and let it burn. To increase efficiency you can have a brick wall around the fire or do it in a pit to keep the heat from escaping.
    When it gets to temperature the aluminum cans will melt and you can continuously feed it more cans and wood. Note that you can’t melt a large amount of cans at the same time cause the fridge barrel walls will give in and molten aluminum will spill out. What I would do is to take scoops out of it and make crude bars or pellets that will be remelted later.

      This is not a safe way to melt cans it is just a different way to do it DIY without propper gear, and risk a river of aluminium floding your back yard.

    I think you may need to rig up some kind of crane system to get the lid on the big furnace on and off safely. Little gantry system or rotator to move it out of the way. You're losing a lot of heat having the system open.

    This is a cool idea that I feel like you could try to do if you're up to it, hear me out on this:
    Making a solid metal skull out of Nordic gold. Having the jaw to go with it is up to you, as well as how big you want the skull to be, whether it be small or normal human sized. I just thought this would be a cool addition to the shelves(not aware if you already did this in the past, if so then I gotta watch that, if not, then at least I offered a new idea for you to try).

    As a heads up to those who are unaware, and an answer to those embarrassed to ask, do you rinse and/or take any other actions to prep your cans?

    • @Rhiawhyn
      @Rhiawhyn 6 месяцев назад +3

      The prep is to preheat them so there's no moisture. There's no point in washing them out as the only thing in there would be water and various organic compounds. Given the fact that you are using a redox forge, it all leaves as co2. Tldr, make sure can is dry, crush and off you go.

    • @bigstackD
      @bigstackD  6 месяцев назад +2

      No mate no prep work but I do like to leave the cans out in the open for a few hot days and that normally drys them completely although some of these ones did have a little bit of moisture still in them. In the Aussie heat you wouldn’t need to leave these out very long over summer👍🏻
