- Last week I got to fish Lake William Hovell for the first time just before Melbourne went into Covid 19 Lockdown 2.0. I thought it would be good to show snippets from the whole day to show you my thought process as to where, how and why I am fishing different water. It was tough going as it often is in the calm, but I finally find a few small Brown Trout. I can't wait to go back in the overcast and with some wind!

Enjoyed the video - nice to see the Cortland name on display as have a used a quite a few of their lines in the last 30 years, the 444 rocket tapers were awesome.. Also my parents lived near their head office in upstate New York so a bit of a family connection.
Red fin are actually great eating, if you cook with some bread crumbs and butter it's one of the best tasting fresh water fish. Hope you kept it 😁.
I caught the first trout in that pond, in 1972.
Yes, it's a difficult lake Tom. Being very small it can fill and empty in a matter of days - a characteristic which can make it difficult. The Goulburn River at summer flows would drain it in a day and a half . . . and GMW, in summer, often run it right down to minimum - it's nothing to see it at 10% or 15% of capacity.
I have to say, Tom, you being 'up there' and in those parts, tells me that you are getting very, very close to some of my favourite waters. I think it is now an appropriate time to say to you, 'Stay off my water Tom. It's mine, you hear? Mine! Stay off!'
An excellent video and yes, a very pretty place. 👍
Hahaha, I've probably accidentally stumbled across some of your water in the past so I'm sorry if I have 😅
Thanks for posting Tom, beautiful vision even if a little frustrating for you.
So good! Thanks for explaining your thought process. It's super helpful and great timing for the start of the season down here in Tassie.
My pleasure I'm glad it helped :)
Beautiful place, amazing knowledge transfer, thanks for sharing mate.
Great stuff. I have never fished William Hovell, but many years ago I was a regular on the King River, and it was one of the best rivers I've ever fished. Big fish, and lots of them. I'm on the other side of the hill these days, but I always think about making the big trip back over there just for a few days fishing on that beautiful river.
Tank reddie
Wheres this channel been my whole life!?!! Im drunk on these videos mate, thank you so much
What a magnificent place to fish! Interesting to hear about your approach to fishing this lake.
What a scenic lake! Beautiful reflections. Good video.
Another great one Tom. Thanks 👍. Looks like a Great Lake to kayak drift on Loch style. (If it wasn’t glass)
Hahah exactly!! Give us some wind pleaseeeee
Great watch mate, really enjoyed this one 👌
Thanks Tom enjoy your videos.I reckon you did well in that lake its not generally known for great fishing.Even the river immediately above has a poor reputation.Yet way upstream around Pineapple flat the fishing can be fantastic.
Thanks man! I am very keen to go back and fish it again, it was nice. Yeah doesn't that place have a massive reputation!!!
Excellent video. Many, many, many years ago I met a hillbilly camped at the top end of the lake who fished 24x7. Granted it wasn't fly fishing, but he caught a large number of big fish. I remember him saying "these came on a 3am" and he gave some to my mate MadDog. Not sure fish like that are present anymore.
I would like to request a carp fishing video in Darebin, Merri Creek or the Yarra if these are accessible to you during the lockdown.
I liked the rawness.
Beautiful lake that one....a shame it doesn’t fish better.
Stunning, I think it has potential. It should hold a large head of fish!
Why not show the redfin capture? More impressive than the brown...
@@aledri6076 I didnt get the take on film, I was eating lunch when he swam past haha
@@tomjarmanfishing3208 cool to have sight fished him!
I went there a few weeks ago and the trout were very active, there were about 5 that had a go at my fly’s but I wasn’t paying attention so I lost em, but I saw many other trout, and the redfin were very active aswell, even more so than the trout
Great video working through your theories on set-up, location and what the fish will be doing :) For some reason, I always thought William Hovell was non-powered craft only so it made me do a double-take lol. Have you ever considered a collaboration trip? It would be amazing to see you out fishing with Trout Hunting NZ in his home rivers one day :D
Such a nice place, and lots of trollers who said they love it there. Yeah maybe down line, right now I'm just fishing as normal but bringing the camera along :)
Thanks again Tom, sight fished a redfin? that's unusual what fly did he take?
