27 long years and I still remember this performance
I come back to watch it over and over again because it was one of the best
This is one of the most beautiful and most memorable ice dances ever! It's been 18 years since I saw this, and I still remember what an impression it made on me. Can't believe I actually found a video of it out here on the web! Thanks!
I return to the performance time and again. It never fails to inspire. It is the gold standard by which all others should be judged. The music, the artistry, the beauty...beyond compare. Klimova and Ponomarenko, thank you.
Exactly!
2022 and I'm still inspired by their performance!
Did you happen to catch Torvill and Dean’s program?
I totally agree.
I REMEMBER and had taped this on the video. MOST BEAUTIFUL romantic couple ever.
Everybody has their favorite ice dancers and think they are the best, but this couple was and is special. True artists.
C'était magnifique. Une si belle harmonie et si limpide...
Amazing sensation to watch this again after many years. They really made a masterpiece. And I also remember all the nice things I thought of the french judge ;-)
I've always loved Marina's hair. It framed her face perfectly and while the norm is to wear your hair up or pulled back when competing, leaving it down and free flowing somehow complimented their routines.
my favorite dance team of all time!!!!
Mine too
Merci!
Speachless everytime i see it and moved....
It’s really important what music you choose and how to executed..they did it perfectly. Love it
I really love this one. Simply so beautiful. I appreciate it I can watch this performance again.
i can remember sitting on my bed in 1992 watching this on tv and, shockingly to me, crying like a baby. it was so beautiful. still is. thank you
Unforgettable 🙋
In 1992, all top 3 teams were gorgeous. Please check them out. What a night!
@Pregolegs
I completely agree with you. This is absolute perfection!
Fugue in D minor J.S. Bach/ orchestral version transcribed by E. Ormandy (Philadelphia Orchestra)
Why isn’t ice dancing this beautiful today ?
The ice dancing of Papadakis and Cizeron is tryly stunning.

This was so beautiful; I'm grateful to have it online, but it's too bad we can't see it in better quality.
There are some performances on ice that are wroth watching innumerable times, and as I watch this one again, two things occur to me: 1) This couple did it the right way: three Olympic competitions, three medals earned, and they bettered themselves with each Olympics, going from bonze to silver to gold. and 2) a performance of this type would probably never have been possible without Torville and Dea's breakthrough Olympic performance to Bolero. They dared to be didfferent; they set the standard.
so beautiful!
They won this competition
One of the most beautiful fee dances EVER. I know the first piece of music is Bachs Air in G but can anyone tell me the name of the second piece of music. I it the great Fugue?
Fuga d-moll / D minor, BWV 565
They ice skate so well!
They don’t make figure skaters like this anymore.
♥️😢
Irina, it is true that ice dancing has become boring. The performances are all routine now days, filled up mostly with mandatory moves, and little variety from one program to another. There was certainly a lot more room for creativity in those days.
Viva Russia 🙋
Even though they are among my all time favorites, watching this makes me realise how much more difficult the sport of ice dancing has become. The contemporary ice dancers have to do much more demanding routines that must include twizzle sequences, two overhead spins, diagonal sequences, plus numerous other spins. In those days the ice dancers had it much easier.
problably much easier, but ufortunately there is no more art left, it became boring. all those old performances, I can wach them over and over again, since this is not only sport, this is more than sport. today, I see only the numbers, a lot of moves inserted in every milimeter of music and that's it. nothing more. the new jugment system don't let the skaters do more than that, they are squized inside this robotic system. in my opinion, it kills the ice dance
Irina Piege Well god forbid they make a SPORT more like a sport! I love a lot of the classical ice dance routines (hence why I'm here re-watching this masterpiece), but IMO the new system is SAVING ice dance as an Olympic sport by making it more objective (WAY less of the "wait your turn" bs now!) and more athletically demanding, which gives the discipline more sport legitimacy and makes it seem less like a joke. I'd rather have less "art" than no ice dance in the Olympics at all, and if I wanted to see pure art I'd just go watch ballet or a dance performance ... Teams nowadays will just have to create art within the set rubrics - and plenty have teams have risen to the challenge beautifully. Overall I find ice dance to be MORE exciting now actually, so to each his own.
@witch1fan
didn't forget anything
Quel merveilleux souvenir...
Now there son compete for the US
*their*
It's absolutely beautiful and so wonderfully executed but I wouldn't want to watch it again - it just leaves me a bit cold. But it is marvellous skating.
schulz1 watch it again.
