There is a whole live album of acoustic Dead called "Dead Reckoning".I was at this Letterman show. Bobby was so high, during one of the commercial breaks you could hear him ask Jerry, can I leave now. He was really stoned.

There is a lot of acoustic material by Jerry Garcia out there, his background before the Dead was playing banjo in bluegrass groups, and throughout his career he would collaborate with a lot of bluegrass artists and formed the bluegrass supergroup Old & In The Way, which you should definitely check out.
lots of acoustic stuff, very little acoustic solo, he didn't really like playing on his own for people. Its only audio, but Jamal would love the Pizza Tapes for sure.
Please keep doing Grateful Sundays! I really enjoy it, even if it's things I've seen a thousand times before. That's the thing about us deadheads, we don't get tired of the Good Old Grateful Dead!

Jerry Church on this Grateful Sunday! Have a great holiday. Jamel! edit The album Reckoning is all acoustic and features the two songs they played on Letterman. Fantastic album. "Look at his eyes." 😂 Bobby was riding that train!
The Dead performed acoustic versions of this song often in the Seventies and Eighties. The song itself goes back to the 1920’s and has been performed by many artists over the years.
Yes yes yes for Dead Sundays. Lots of acoustic stuff. Here’s a quick list along with a song recommendation. Hart Valley Drifters - Roving Gambler Grateful Dead - Bird Song (live on the album Reckoning) Old & In the Way - Lonesome L.A. They used to do heaps of acoustic stuff in the 60s. They brought it back in the early 80s, due to the Takamine guitars making it possible to play in very big venues. I don't know how often they were doing this. The other Letterman show they were on, they did a great version of Friend of the Devil. Long strange trip is a great movie.
Hey Brother, Jerry hooked up with a mandolin player David Grisman. Along with several other players they recorded acoustically albums under the name "Old & In The Way". I love them'
Off topic of the video, I just wanted to say Thank You! for the card and the gift. I hadn't checked my mailbox in a minute and just got it yesterday. To you and your wife I again say thanks and keep doing what you're doing.
I think I saw you say you dunno Deep Elem Blues. Check out the 1980 Acoustic Live record called Reckoning. In 1970 and 1980 they did live Acoustic sets at some shows. I look forward to these Sundays things.
As someone else mentioned, Jerry played with a group of bluegrass musicians who called themselves "Old and In the Way". Jerry also did a great solo acoustic version of "Whiskey in the Jar". I know it's on Spotify, not sure about RUclips.
Back in 1980 and for a little while after, Grateful Dead would do acoustic sets at the beginning of a show, and then do electric sets after. Both songs played here appear on the album "Reckoning", a live recording from their run at Radio City Music Hall in NYC in October 1980. They close-circuit broadcast the show on 10/31/80 to several large theaters around the country, I witnessed it at The Orpheum Theater in Boston, with a concert sound system and, since it was Halloween, a costume contest during the intermission. There is, of course, a full video of that whole show, hosted by comedians Al Franken, later a US Senator, and Tom Davis. Hilarity and great music ensue.
Obviously when they first started it was all acoustic in the Jugband days and then in 65 when they became the warlocks they knew they had to switch to electric if they really wanted to make the scene or at least they wanted to change it up. But then they did more acoustic stuff in 7071 when they put out the album American beauty and workingman‘s dead and around that time they did do some acoustic shows but it wasn’t like they really ever stopped playing acoustic it just wasn’t their main thing. But Jerry was always doing different things such as playing with David Grisman or in the great American string band in which he played banjo. And then also Jerry was playing banjo in another band called old and in the way. And when they did the tour in the early 80s in which the movie dead ahead was from they would do the first set acoustic and then the second set electric. And then and 87 they created the Jerry Garcia acoustic band which was Jerry and a bunch of his buddies without anybody else from the grateful dead. Yes please continue with the Grateful Sunday and I’m sure I’m not the only one who freaks out and immediately wants to watch it when it comes out in my feed so please don’t stop. It’s nice to see the variety to such is not just music but interviews and stuff. I think David letterman was kind of just joking around because they had just been talking about how no two shows are ever the same. So basically they were going to do a mini show that I’ve never been done before I guess, I think that’s what he was kind of getting at with that little joke. If you like the acoustic stuff you could pull up tons and tons of Jerry Garcia and David Grisman or the Jerry Garcia acoustic band or the great American string band or old and in the way. But really the true gem of the Internet is the one show that was ever recorded and is available on RUclips and the sound quality is great is the mother McCrees Uptown jug champions. Look it up it’s amazing. And it’s funny because I’m not sure if it’s actually on the RUclips version because I have the recording myself from another source and at the end there’s an interview, and keep in mind this is in 1964. And the interviewer asks Jerry what he wants to do with the band or where they want to go and he says “I certainly don’t want to be worshiped or anything like that“ so it’s kind of funny because the exact thing that they would never strive to achieve just sort of ended up happening to them. I don’t really think that there’s another band on this planet that one somebody likes they really like the way that the deadheads like the Grateful Dead. It’s truly an amazing thing.
I Live in Palm Springs Jamel...lol. lets have coffee. Definately a cultural icon, Jerry passed way too early. Omg…he said so Bob weir can blow his nose 😂 I see people mentioned Reckoning, an acoustic album. Dicks picks volume 8, the whole first CD is acoustic too. Think there’s an acoustic set from the Fillmore in ‘71. Jerry also did alot of acoustic stuff with David Grisman, one of his best, life-long friends who also has an AMAZING group called The David Grisman Quintet. I recommend the album Dawgnation first but it’s all good 😉 (Actually, the show that’s dicks picks 8, in between the acoustic set n the electric sets, a band called new riders of the purple sage played. Grisman and Jerry both played with them) The first 10 dicks picks are deadheads top 10 favorite shows ever. 3, 6, 8 each give the best representation of a different dead era, ‘70, ‘77, and ‘83. Even if not for the channel, check them out for yourself. It’s amazing to hear two very different versions of dancing in the streets.

But I have doubts about how to post because of copyright. How do you react to copyrighted videos? Can you explain? I'm using google translator lol
I always liked the _idea_ of being a "Dead Head" right? Going where the band goes. Living like a gypsy following them around. Having a blast with your like-minded "Dead Head" friends and, that comradery with the band you love. I just never liked more than a handful of Grateful Dead songs. I love what they represent. I love the mythology behind them , I've had "Dead Head" friends. Me personally though, I can't get into the music. I like "Truckin'" and "Friend of the Devil" has some beautiful melody, very difficult song to get out of your head once you hear it. I love and relate to the hippy ideology so I really dig most of the bands that started off in San Francisco and, congregated with the Dead. Jerry Garcia was known as the "Mayor" during the summer of love, Haight Ashbury, 67 flower children scene and, I imagine if I'd been there I'd have loved hanging out with those guys but, I never could understand exactly what the enormous appeal The Grateful Dead's fans had for the music. They have always been talked about as super nice guys, good humans but, I'm just not picking up on whatever the Dead Head's are so devoted to. It sort of baffles me. Maybe if I'd have been able to catch a live show, and hear them improvise for hours, tripping and, partying. Then I might better understand but, the couple songs I do like, I like quite a bit. Peace to all the Dead Head's, and to all the good humans, Brother Jamal of course...see you guys next time 🎸🎶✌️♥️🙏
If you wanna see interviews just Google it on RUclips and you’ll find so many great interviews. I really like the Jerry Garcia interview when he’s on I think the today show and he’s being interviewed by Gene Shalit. Super funny and he’s been really sweet. And that’s not too long so you could definitely use that for one of the episodes because there are some really long interviews that last up to like 40 minutes or so.
Late to the party but since no one else seems to have said it you should check out Don’t Ease Me In from the Festival Express tour. There’s official video and audio as it was recorded professionally and is acoustic, and features the lineup of Billy, Mickey, and Pigpen since it’s from 1970. Highly recommend it, think you’d love it

A really good video of their acoustic playing is Dead Ahead, at Madison Square Garden 1980. Brent had just joined the band.

Peace to all the Dead Head's, and to all the good humans, Brother Jamal of course...see you guys next time 🎸🎶✌️♥️🙏
Hope you're having a great time man you earned it 🙏
WE LOVE YOU !
Keep it up. Your doing great.
1970 they usually did 2 says an early show which was an acoustic show and the late show which was electric
If you wanna see interviews just Google it on RUclips and you’ll find so many great interviews. I really like the Jerry Garcia interview when he’s on I think the today show and he’s being interviewed by Gene Shalit. Super funny and he’s been really sweet. And that’s not too long so you could definitely use that for one of the episodes because there are some really long interviews that last up to like 40 minutes or so.
there are more videos. They used to do 3 set shows, 1st was acoustic. Some great songs out there, keep on listening.
I love your videos 🎉
They’ve got a pretty good acoustic version of whiskey in the jar you should really check out.
Late to the party but since no one else seems to have said it you should check out Don’t Ease Me In from the Festival Express tour. There’s official video and audio as it was recorded professionally and is acoustic, and features the lineup of Billy, Mickey, and Pigpen since it’s from 1970. Highly recommend it, think you’d love it
Never heard the monkey song, it was 😍 cute, thanks Jamel !!! If you don't feel like it, it's ok with me I've got to clean my room. You have a good time !!!! 🙏 💙
Gotta love that Bluegrass pickin'!!!
Grateful for you and this idea- loving it! Are you going to any shows for summer tour?
Over 30 years they had two acoustic runs. 1970 and 1980.
You should check out some Jerry Garcia/David Grisman performances. Absolutely fantastic acoutic music. I’m loving these videos!!

Great video!
If you look at you're reflexion .
In the bottom of the well,
What you see is only on the surface.
If you try to find the meaning,
Hidden underneath, the measure of fe depth will be deceiving, yhe bottom has a rocky reputation.......
You can feel it in the distance, the. Deeper e down you stare, for up above itshard to see , but you know it.
And it's there.
On the bottom words are shallow and
On the surface talk os cheap
You can only judge the distance by the company that you keep.
In the eyes of that Confessor
Shows you how important Bob was/is.
Good job my friend ❤
Keep it goin Jamel!!
Dead Ahead is a video of a whole acoustic set they did in 80'
Hi, I know this is about Garcia & Weir but i wanted you to know how much i enjoy your music reviews. How can i get the great t-shirt you sometimes wear about be a good human? Everyone should have and wear one.
They put out an acoustic live album in the 80s.
Bearded guys pretty good. He should maybe join a band or something. 🤔

I mentioned side projects. Someone else mentioned them in this thread. You will have to look harder but Garcia and John Kahn tons of acoustic. Jerry on Broadway 1987.
