I just got a very cherry redone Kdx200 and it has a new Gnarly Desert pipe on it....not very fun in tight woods. Anything over 1/4 throttle from just over idle and its on the pipe and rev's uncontrollably. Think I found someone who has the Woods and wants to trade, cuz Id like my KDX to feel like a KDX instead of a YZ250
You can do 2 things. Put a flywheel weight on it, and/or gear up on the sprockets to a slightly taller ratio, like 2 less teeth on the back sprocket. Both of those will slow down the revs, and I would give the nod to the flywheel weight, (depending on how heavy you go, research it), being the bigger factor, and not hurt the really low "grunt" that taller gearing can do.
Ripping it! Going to get the woods pipe soon for my new to me 99 kdx 200. Do only trails riding and looking for that better low end hill climbing power. Did you get it yourself? What jets did you settle with? Any other mods?
Haha thanks! Awesome.... you'll love it, woods pipe is definitely the way to go on the KDX..... the difference it makes all around is unreal...... literally a completely different bike. I did it myself.... super easy to put on, nothing to it. No jetting for me..... I run a Lectron carb, so it doesn't use any jets, and automatically compensates for changes so I didn't need to do anything at all to the carb. Only other mod is a set of Boyesen carbon dual stage reeds, which I definitely recommend as well. FMF recommends to take the snorkel out of the airbox lid, so I did do that. I've been extremely happy with this pipe.... I should have done it a long time ago, lol. Throttle response is super crisp and it'll bring the front end up easy. Even though it's the woods pipe it still adds a lot of top end as well
Jared Penttinen never heard of a lectron carb but now I'm gonna look into it! And that's awesome. Had a couple doubts about the woods pipe but that's all I do. I don't track the thing. Now I can't wait haha. Thanks for the recommendation
I got one for my 96. Woke the bike up on the pipe. I feel like I lost a little grunt though. I notice the pipe does not say woods on it. The powerband really comes on. I can pull the front in 3rd gear now. I'm 170 lbs.
@74 CYCLES usually not a carburetor set up run on classic 1970s motorcycles that I am used to. My 96 kdx was the newest thing I bought by a long shot haha
Thanks for posting this video I have an 04 and I feel like I can never get the carburetor dialed in perfectly. I'm considering trying this pipe. Was wondering if if the lectron carburetor was still holding up good. Maybe that would solve my problem not sure any suggestions are appreciated 😉
Nice to find my local riding park in a RUclips video!
Looks like the trails at Wayne national forest here in ohio

New top end or check reeds might have an air leak somewhere
