Dual SVS PB16 Subwoofers vs Godzilla King of the Monsters
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 сен 2024
- Godzilla King of the Monsters provided plenty of LFE to give my Dual SVS PB16 subwoofers a workout but they handled it very well. The Atmos track in Godzilla is one of the best that I have heard to date.

The sound engineer/mixer responsible should be interviewed.
I believe they deserve more recognition. Maybe then, most movies/games will care about good mix and quality.
For sure
I worked on this movie and Witt is an awesome sound mixer. He’s also a great guy! Not my favorite movie but by far some of the nicest Actors and crew I’ve worked with in my career.
Dude, this movie! It's so ABSURD! It has no business being that wild! I just did a walk through video tour of my theater's new setup, I hope everyone enjoys it. This movie is what inspired me to get out there and make another walkthrough because people have to understand just how much air was moving around! HAHA!
Love your videos man, can't wait until the next one!
Fantastic bass. My PSA V1500DF paired with my dual 12” inch BOSS setup was rocking and shaking. Wife and kids loved it!!!
i got dual's PB-4000 and i thought GODZILLA was in my living room
Haha I bet!
This is the movie with the best bass I have heard so far this year
ERICK SANCHEZ pb16 and pb4000 which is better ?
Pb16
I have 4 pb16 man the sound u can't imagine i would say it was better then my locaal theatre lol
I jumped where you jumped. Awesome effects. I wish the effects of each action movie though. Especially Walt Disney movies.
My neighbours are gonna love this movie 👍😁
Wish I could hear this in person. Because I know the video doesn’t do it justice. Subscribed!
Thanks
Awesome video as usual!!! Keep up the great work and videos. Your an inspiration to a lot of us and your reviews and feedback help us...well at least me in growing my HT.
Thank you kindly
I wasn’t into Godzilla’s world but I must admit it you got me into this .. I’ll rent it today and watch just to enjoy the sound ..
recently got a HSU subwoofer and is FENOMENAL the change my humble home theater did...
isn’t the most expensive but you have to try one day...
Great video as always my dear!!
Crank it up!
I have two VTF15H-Mk2 and can't wait to set then up and have a go at this movie. Which HSU do you have?
rupedogg24 have the same but only one... I don’t think my room (or neighbors) can’t handle two of those beast 😜😂...
I just did a recommendation to someone here and I think you won’t let me lie while I say this is also a Must subwoofer for anyone!!!
Cheers
@rupedogg24
HSU VTF15H-Mk2 subs for the win! Love mine.
Hey Michael, I know what you. I am a Godzilla fan. I have a pair of Klipsch R 12SW in the front, and a pair of Klipsch R 100SW in the rear. Whenever I calibrate the audio, that’s the first 4K disc I pop in, sit back and listen. My reaction was the same as yours “WOW”
It’s a great demo
there is a point in godzilla where they are underwater looking out the window, godzilla coming close to the submarine. and some enormous bass follows.
YES! I forgot to mention the heartbeat. That was incredibly done
That was a fun/quick review. Love the towel displaying your subs air movement 👌
Sometimes you have to get a bit creative
I'm picking that up this week. Getting excited to get my other subs down here to try this out on them! Thanks for the suggestion Michael
Dude your subs are going to love this movie. I found myself smiling a lot during the movie. Wait till you hear Godzilla’s heartbeat.
Guess I'm buying a movie tomorrow that sounds pretty nice in your home theater
Your PB16’s will love it
Youthman!! Holy cow my dude!!! I have 2 r-115sw and love them, but you are in a whole other league. Cheers!
The PB16 are pretty incredible. By far the best subs I have owned. Next upgrade will likely be (4) 18’s 😀😀😀
@@Youthman you think 4 of those 18"s is enough..? 😉
@@morbus74 I think it will do. :)
Youthman 4 and a really hope you have the right insurance for that house 😂😂😂😂😂
Hi Youthman Ha what a crack up, I'm glad you enjoyed the LFE in this movie I knew you would good stuff.
🤣🤣🤣
Lol that Alexa part was funny
I still have no idea what I said that got her attention 😂
Just got my 2nd PB-16! And have a PB-3000 behind the seats. So much info I learned from your channel! Thx! :-)
LOL! That sign above the door was nuts! Haha! Can't imagine what your neighborhood thinks about it!
Hahahaha!!!
Bro try to get your hands on a Monitor Audio Platinum PLW215 II or A G25HP Rythmik subwoofer!
Ok, this is not the best movie but this is how an ATMOS movie should sound. Once again Warner Bros. has delivered a superb 10/10 reference audio track. My dual PB3000 were rocking so hard that the USGS was picking seismic activity 😂
the subwoofers were shaking the entire theater room. Imagine if you put a Bumping Car related music.
Thanks for the movie suggestion.....LFE galore!!!
My daytonbsub 1200s arent high end by a LONG SHOT. That being said. For their price point. Godzilla king of the monsters really pushrd them to the limits. So much fun watching this movie
I have been doing crazy research for a few weeks and I wanted to ask you because I couldn't find the answers anywhere.
What should the subwoofer and speaker balance be?
First of all, I looked at ready systems. I saw that in ready systems, the total rms power is as much as the subwoofer, for example, I saw systems where 1000w rms speakers are 1000w rms subwoofers, and they are between 20% and 60%. For example, in the logitech z5500, the subwoofer is equal to 59.3 of the speaker power. When we look at the Samsung q990d model, the subwoofer ratio is 43.01%. What should this subwoofer ratio be for a great movie experience?
My second question is about the number of subwoofers? I have seen 1, 2 and 4 users, what is the ideal one?
By the way, I have a living room between 40 - 50 m². I will not make a cinema room, I will watch with a 98 inch television.
How did you like that "heart beat" scene right after that submarine came up to the surface and Godzilla right after it...? I think Godzilla has a quite "convincing" heart beat 😁
Oh! I completely forgot about that. That was awesome!
How to connect on this sub on power amp power amps have not any rca or xlr outs so how do connect plzz reply me
Wow 😱 ... this svs pb16 is the king of the dinosaurs.
That paper is possessed!!! But really that bass is ridiculous. I always love your setup... and the cameo in your video at the end LOL.
Thank you 😀
Lol as soon as you said "I'm not a godzilla fan" , all I heard from Alexa was:" I'm not sure about that" lol too funny. 🤣😂 Nice video once again of the pb-16 ultra in action.
Haha
Hey,
I have a SB4000.
Do you ever saw white stains on a rubber Surround when unboxing?
Man thats awesome. i have dual pb2000 in a smaller room just saw that movie in 4k atoms it sounded crazy . and u have dual 16 wow
The beginning steps are so bass heavy that one of my passive radiators tore on my tower speakers lmao and the excursion of my Infinity R12 is crazy, but it handles it well
Man youthman you must really love bass lol especially now since you have even crazier subs then these I actually got to hear a single pb16 ultra in person and let me tell you it’s nothing like I could have imagined it to be idk how you guys houses are still intact lol the bass coming out of 1 of those is crazyyyy I had a sb3000 and it’s like a toy compared to the pb16ultra
I remember when my dual PB16’s came in. It was the quite impressive. JTR are just on a whole new level.
Godzilla 2 was really good for bass. But for surround in the first godzilla movie there's a scene where military is transporting the nuke by train and then the monster walks past them. It has insane surround and quite descent low end.
Hi Youthman, loving the video. What do the PB16s perform like for music??
You should definitely give the first film, Godzilla (2014), a watch. While it's "only" a DTS MA 7.1 track, the LFE on that is arguably even better than this one. Key moments are the first MUTO escape, the Hawaii attack, the wooden bridge scene (if you know, you know), and the opening nuke. One of the most tactile experiences I've ever had watching a film. It also helps that it's a much better told story with more realistic characters and a Jaws-like tone.
Agree Godzilla 2014 had terrific LFE & surround effects added to the intense background score..its the best among all the monsterverse movies...godzilla vs kong being the worst
I had the HGS18, I still have it in storage. It was amazing during the day but I would still bottom it out a lot. I also had trouble with the amp in it at one point. It was really great for its time, but, the subs today are worlds better. I feel like speakers haven't advanced as much as subs in that time period. You can still have a great speaker from 15 years ago and it is great, a great sub from 15 years ago is kinda a bummer now. I guess just the drivers progressed and the DSP amps made such a difference.
I agree. My LaScalas were made in 1980 and sound absolutely phenomenal.
I just completed my 5.1 home theater sound system with an Infinity Primus 8 SW and can't wait to play this!
Please note that I'm on a very tight budget and my room is very small. Even this SW is too big for me.
Very cool. Be easy on the volume. It’s pretty brutal if your sub isn’t up for it
@@Youthman Thanks!
Since you're not a Godzilla fan, I'll cut you some slack :) but these types of movies always have a cheesy plot. The main focus is the monsters. Think of it as a big budget B-movie. I understand that it may not be your taste, but it got love from the fans and was bashed by the critics and I just want them to make more Godzilla movies, so don't listen to the critics :)
Hey Youthman hope you could show us some RadioShack spl reading when the tower drops! Craazy excursion Haha
Long live the King....of Bass lol!!
Godzilla king of monsters bluray says dolby atmos true hd and also 4k bluray version says dolby atmos truehd ,does atmos tracks are differ in quality here ?
You now have me running through my Blu-ray collection with something you said, the pointless LFE, over the past 6 to 12 months I recall saying that to the wife part way through movies. “I don’t get that pointless bass, what was that for?” I’ve said it a lot and can totally relate there. There is literally nothing going on, on the screen at the time. Great video. 👍🏻👍🏻
EXACTLY how I felt.
Youthman it’s like that typical horror suspense LFE you get sometimes, without the horror, and without the suspense. It’s ridiculous sometimes. I swear il find another film to back our findings😂😂😂
Yeah, it's getting silly now. LFE just because, it throws the movie off
Gonna have to run down to Redbox and give this a look myself. I love Godzilla.
If you love it, I would definitely buy it.
I just got mine.....love it....need one more now😂
I wonder what you think the PB-16's could do better, since you mentioned the aren't perfect.
I was referring to Port noise during the beginning of Edge of Tomorrow.
Youthman I have a calibration question. After you run full Adyssey calibration for all your speakers and 2 subwoofers I know you go back and check the levels with your Radio Shack sound meter to verify all speakers are at 75 DB. My question is when you go back and check the sub levels I know you have to raise the bass level of the subs because Adyssey always sets them too low. So when you adjust each of the subs to 75 DB and verify that all other speakers are at 75 DB do you go back and reduce each of the subs 1.5 DB to offset the combined subs 3 DB increase?
For movies like War of the worlds, 4k disc LFE is lower than what's on the regulat bluray disc, which is weird. If sound engineers continue doing this, this adds another layer of confusion as to what disc format to purchase
Godzilla was definitely in the room.😲
Haha
Saw this at a fake imax regal
Theater. Was totally disappointed with the sound. So happy to hear it sounds how I wanted it to sound on blu ray/4K. I’ll pick it up when it hits the bargain bin.
Its hard to beat a quality home theater. I’m often disappointed when I go to the movies as well
You should try Car audios subs , no joke . i built my own driver and box and use a 1000rms amplifier . its insane . but really check out something like the Sundown X series 18''
For sure. My friend uses (4) FI car subs in his IB setup and it’s insane - ruclips.net/video/M0PLMeXaCd0/видео.html
What sub in the same price and performance class would not chuff like the PB16 does when playing the opening scene to Edge of Tomorrow?
Any sealed subwoofer, Rythmik (maximum integration), REL Acoustics (maximum integration), PSA(bass in your face, just like SVS)JL Audio(bass in your face), JTR captivator(bass in your face)etc etc..
Select any you need, either maximum audiophile grade integration or bass in your face Subwoofer 👍
What’s your opinion on REL HT 1508 Predator subwoofer?
I have only heard one REL sub (Dual 212SE).
Very nice!!!!!! WOW!! The vibration is crazy good!I have this and need to watch it. My backlog is getting outta control 😂
I got one of my two RT-10D's repaired instead of getting PB 16's.. I just cant bring myself to part with them. Watching Godzilla on Friday
I had Dual RT-10D in Cherry and later an RT-12D. I love Klipsch but they can’t compete with the PB16.
Was the yellow cloth moving cause if the driver excursion or the 3 port holes?
Mostly the air exiting the port holes but likely a little of both.
Is theater or theatre when in your is theatre but is theater
Just watched it with dual Subs.Omg the LFE never stops through the whole movie. It did get quite annoying after a while and i love LFE.It's definatly a movie for demoing subs, that i can tell you.
I felt Aquaman was annoying but not with Godzilla. The LFE matched the action that was taking place
@@Youthman Not annoying because the LFE was firing when nothing was happening.Just that continous rumble from what was going on in the movie.A bit like the mother inlaw when your thinking to yourself STFU 😁
I just ordered two Dayton ultimax 18”. I am going to build two Miny Marty’s to lay down to the sides in front of my room. Just need to pick up the amp and build the boxes. Looking at the behringer nx6000d. Can’t wait to hear what they sound like. Coming from two 12” BIC America f12 woofers these should be amazing!
You should be in for a huge upgrade
Youthman yea I bet. Just trying to make sure I have everything figured out since I have never used a pro amp
What amp circuit is your av equipment connected too? I have a Denon 4500h with a small amp for the rear atmos ceilings. And a Dayton sa230 amp for 4 shakers in the seats And if I add a nx6000d i am looking into if it will be fine. I have a dedicated 15amp circuit running to this outlet.
Ben Anderson I have a dedicated 20amp to the electronics and subs
Youthman I should have done a 20. But my panel is directly above my media cabinet so if needed it will be easy to drop another circuit down or up wire size. From reading on avs forums I think I will be fine.
Double Bass Array with 4 of these :D
tomorrow i get my dual pb16's and this is exactly the movie i want to watch first on them :D
Do it! But be prepared for a permanent smile on your face.
I'm noticing the mic you're using to record this video isn't quite capturing the audio of Godzilla KOM as well as possible. Your voice is clear. But not where it could be. Check the JTR demo by another RUclipsr named Charlie (the name of his channel). Maybe ask him about his mic..his demo was amazing. Best I've heard watching a RUclips video through my Audio Technica headphones. Do like your videos. I just think perhaps you might want to upgrade your mic...
I have a separate Zoom H4N Pro that I use for stereo recordings. Honestly I’m not sure what microphone I was using during this video. It might have been just my lapel mic which isn’t the best for recording audio
If you haven't watched it yet, check out the movie Hunter Killer. It literally caused my PB16 to chuff a few times. I'm not saying I didn't have it up maybe a LITTLE too loud but that movie puts a hurting on the PB16.
I haven’t watched that. Beginning of Edge of Tomorrow will produce chuffing as well
@@Youthman youthman do video on subs that dont chuff on EOT opening note, pb13 ultra as far as i know is the best sub that dont chuff
I love your setup!
That was incredibly impressive!!
Thanks Adam
Loved the vid! How’d you like your rt800’s back in the day? I have a rt5000 setup for the heart of my theater and it still rocks
They were great until I bought a pair of Klipsch CF2. I never knew how much detail I was missing
you need to do a video on SVS PB 2000 vs 2000 pro
Sorry but I do not have any plans of reviewing either of those models
yep I had the same Vel sub it always bottomed out and I had the F1800
Nice! I always wanted the DD18 but it was way above my budget at the time
I have a question for you on your Marantz receiver or your Denon receiver when you press the option button on the remote control And you got to channel adjustment how did you have your channel adjusted all the way up mid way or in the negatives no one never talked about this and thank you
After you do your Adyssey Room Correction unless you go into Option and manually change Channel Level Adjust those settings will remain at 0. If you want to view the Audyssey Calibration levels results you can do It 2 ways. Go to Settings and select Manual Setup or go to Audyssey Setup and select Check Results. Again this will show you what Audyssey Room Correction did. You cannot make changes here. To make changes you select Settings then go to Manual Setup. In Manuel Setup you can change anything you want to change.
Regarding your question using the Option/Channsl Level Adjust. This is designed to adjust each inputs separately if you so desire. You could change all speaker outputs completely for each input if you so desire and it will retain the custom settings you make for that input. It does not change the main settings. Another words if you view the settings in the Manual Setup the settings will reflect what Audyssey Room Correction made or if you made manual adjustments those adjustments.
It's a great feature.
Thank you
I dig my SB-3000.
How does the sealed sound compared to the ported ones? Anything that just stands out why you chose the sb or the pb?
PB will have a lot more output than the SB subs. It isn’t until you get 18” or above that you can get both incredible output and the benefits of a sealed sub
You talked about your diy acoustic panels...Any advice for the bass traps? I've heard 2in thick, 4lb density panels set in the corners floor to ceiling are good but wanted to ask the man that's made some.
I have used bass traps since I first got my theater. About a month ago I got curious and took a measurement using REW With and without the bass traps and saw no difference.
Man this gets me pumped
Thanks
I currently have 1 PB-16ultra, do you recommend a second one? that worth it??
“Is it worth it” is always subjective. It depends on your budget, disposable income, your needs etc. I prefer running duals myself. More headroom, more output, better seat to seat response. Lots of benefits with duals
Are you still trying to get PSA to send you the new TV42 IPAL? Quad 21" pro woofers is where it's at! Really thinking about swapping the V3611s for two.
Not at the moment. Could be a future review though
So you run those PB-16s in regular ported mode? I ended up switching it up again and put my PB-4000 in the corner, in extended mode and boosted around the 15 hz range by 4db .
Yes I prefer Standard mode in my setup.
Wow that's some air shifting
Enjoyed the video. Is your audyssey set to reference or flat? Also do you have the subs boosted in AVR or are they still at -10?
This was with the Emotiva RMC-1. It doesn’t have room correction yet as they have not implemented Dirac.
Subs were still at -10 in RMC-1. No boost was added.
Youthman, I notice your room is shaped like a rectangle, have you ever had anyone talk to you about having a dome style roof in more of a square room?
No I have not had that conversation before
What’s your thoughts on bass shakers (such as butt kickers) if you already have subwoofers like those. Are the shakers even worth it anymore 🤔
I have not experienced them but everyone that owns them swears by them
You should make a video about the history of your home theater
I have definitely wanted to 😀 might be a long video but I think it would be very motivational, especially showing the deals I have found along the way that made this all possible proving you do not have to be rich to have a home theater.
Wow this is amazing hey man I’ve subscribed
Thanks!
Hey Youthman, quick question. Did you upgrade your SR8012 for the RMC-1 and X11? How big is the difference vs just having th SR8012? I'm currently in the stages of adding the XPA3-GEN3 to my SR8012 for the fronts for now. I just sent out my SR8012 for repair as you know and hopefully this add-on to it will help reduce the stress on it.
No I still have my SR8012 and am considering either the AV7705 or possibly the 8805.
I included the equipment in the video since I often get asked what I have connected during a video.
I am undecided which amp I will go with. Both the X11 and Emotiva XPA-11 sound great.
Cool video! That was great!!!
@Youthman any idea when you will be testing the JTR vs PB16?
JTR is soon sending me some big boy toys 😀
Hi Youthman, love your informational videos you make, very well thought out and made... I'm curious If i were to send you some photos of my listing room could you help me with some speaker placements and component choices ? Any help would be great :)
Hi chopper, I get that request quite often. Unfortunately I do not have the ability to provide consulting for the entire channel. I might be able to offer it as a premium service in the future.
The best free option is to join the Youthman Crew Facebook Group
@@Youthman "The only true source of knowledge is experience"
After watching some of your videos, i can see why people seek your wisdom. I hope someday your able to swing a service such as this. I will be in line :)
Forgive my ignorance, but if I go to a 2 sub-woofer setup, do they have to be indentical subs? thanks
No they do not. I would not recommend mixing sealed with ported subs due to cancellation issues
Hey Youthman. How is the perforated screen performing against all this air displacement generated by the dual subs ? What's the space you have between the subs and the screen and does the screen shake on low frequency hits ?
Yes the screen shakes but can only be seen when the lights are off.
Distance to screen is maybe 9”.
Check out this video - ruclips.net/video/VtLw9a1ey6s/видео.html
I had different subs but same still applies
Youthman, can you see if you can review: Rythmik fv25hp or the g25hp. They use servos and heard they are way better than pb16’s. Both are around the same price so curious to see the difference.
I emailed them a few weeks ago but haven’t heard from them.
Love the channel! Quick question, how far is your seating distance from your screen? Any issues with bass null with having the two subs on the front wall?
Thank you Jacob. My front row is 9’ from a 150” diagonal 2.35:1 screen.
With one sub I get a nasty null. With both it pretty much fixes the null. Check this video - ruclips.net/video/eXfH9WH8Yw8/видео.html
Wow!! I just bought a pb16 ultra. What volume I should have the sub in when I start my calibration? -10?
I typically run mine between -15dN and -10dB
Youthman thanks! Love your channel! Keep up the great work!
Some scenes had great bass and some the bass was neutered which didn’t correspond to the action on screen. The film itself was one of the better modern Godzilla flicks
I did not notice that in my room. What subs are you running?
@@Youthman pb16, now i have to re-watch but after JW3:P
Which is better rythmik fvx15 vs svs pb16 ultra
I Haven’t heard Rythmik.
I have ass shakers under the sofa in the theater room. It helps the bass a lot. When you feel the bass on your bottom, it seems like you got big big bass, even without cranking up the volume.
My dual PB16’s shake my booty a plenty 😂😂😂
@@Youthman LOL. We also have a 10 inch Klipsch and a 12 inch SVS, in a 12 x 12 foot room. As you know, big fun.
Hey do you think I'm better off getting a second PB1000 or just getting a better, bigger sub like from HSU or PSA? I mean within a budget of 1,000 bucks?
I have a pb1000 in my living room and a HSU VTF3 MK5 15" sub in my theater room. Honestly I would go for a second pb1000 over a single hsu vtf3 mk5. The pb1000 is a phenomenal sub for its size and price. Output wise the hsu is the clear winner. But.... the pb1000 is such a clean sounding sub with very accurate and low distortion bass that punches way above it's weight imo. Just my thoughts
I haven’t heard the PB1000 so I cannot comment on how it performs with the lower end PSA or HSU subs.
@@luckymckay thanks man, it certainly would be cheaper this route. That PB1000 is a pretty dang good for the price. It surprises me all the time. A second would even things out in this room. I get a discount if I buy again from SVS too. Thanks again for the help.
Hey youthman.... question , would two 10 inch subs be better than 1 12” sub ? I’m looking at an entry level sub like the r10sw
Two 10" will have more surface area than a single 12" but if you are talking home theater, I would go with a 12" any day. Once I upgraded to a 15", I have never found a 12", much less a 10" that met my needs.
Youthman ok thx so much for replying! Love the channel by the way . Keep up with the great content!
Thank you kindly
Great video Youthman!
Where do you set your volume at?
I tend to watch movies around -15dB
Pb16 and pb4000 which is better? Am.kinda confused here which to purchase, been watching a lot of pb16 and 4000 videos
Is that even a question? If you can afford the PB16 Ultra I think you should go for it
PB16 is a better sub
Youthman ok thanks youthman
I'd love to hear and feel the system you have! My old system was a 7.1 but lost it to a fire in 2007
Yikes! So sorry to hear that. Stuff can always be replaced. Glad you are ok.
Thanks man! Yeah that's true, stuff is replaceable.
hi youthman, i have a jl e112 currently. Thinking of getting the pb16 next year. what is your take on it?
I have a pair of them. Absolutely love them.
Oh my I have this movie but waiting to order my new subs by Friday but still undecided either 2 of hsu vtf-2 mk5 2 svs sb3000 or rsl speedwoofer 10s because of the space
Cannot help you as I have only heard the SVS PB3000
@@Youthman decided to go in a whole different direction 2 svs pc-2000 cant wait
