    I'm from Leeds. I took great pride in the Fink usually announcing Davey Boy from Leeds, untill I learned he was from Manchester.
    Bulldog will always have a special place in my memories. Back in 97 I saw him and Owen team up. On the way to the ring I was screaming their names and they both winked at me and smiled. I'm 33 and still remember that moment as vivid as the birth of my kids. Much love from the UK.

    Bulldog became my favorite guy after Royal Rumble 91 when he tossed all these people out and lasted until the end with Hogan. Then Warlord at Mania. It was great to be a Bulldog fan. In the mid 90's he played the top heel in a few championship matches just to lose to guys like Bret, Shawn, Diesel, and Undertaker, but when the Foundation came together around 96/97, they made him really strong again. He didn't really ever lose in that era. Actually, most of the Hart Foundation did not lose around then (save maybe for Anvil). Awesome time for a Bulldog/Bret/Owen fan! Davey was never the same after Shawn beat him for the millionth time at One Night Only. Nate is not the only one who noticed Michaels beat him every time! Fans know this stuff!

    I started watching about 88 or 89 when I was 3, since my birthday is November 26 I don't remember if it was the end of that year or early the next year. I always loved Bulldog, by going back and renting vhs that had been out. I loved the Bulldogs, his run to win the IC belt, his WCW run, my 2 personal favorites the different trios of Davey, Owen, and Yokozuna, then Vader replacing Yoko, and the Hart Foundation group or faction. The only 2 runs I personally didn't care for one way or the other was the Allied Powers tag team with Lex Luger, and the singles run when he came back from late 90s and early 2000s. His last run the only 2 things I remember were the Rock Bottom on dog crap, and when Rock was special referee in a match with Davey and Triple H on SmackDown. I remember Rock before dropping the People's Elbow sliding before hitting it since he was in street clothes.

    Well, he married into the Hart family, wrestled for Stu in Calgary, and was close to Bret and Anvil. I am half expecting a burial, but then again this isn't 83 Weeks. Either Bruce is telling us how it is a lot more often then Bischoff so far or, he is much better at sounding credible when he dodges or gives Conrad bs answers. I enjoy listening to Eric at times but I almost feel like I need to take a shower after. Especially after last weeks episode. I realize Bret and Eric don't see eye to eye and Bret has said a lot about Eric but most of that 2 hour 40 min show was full of lies, inconsistencies, backtracking, and passive aggressiveness. Just my opinion. Look at all the tragedies and bs Bret has been through. Multiple Brother's died young, his Nephew died at 12 of flesh eating disease, he had to deal with the Klik and Hogan's politics, his Brother in law Davey Boy passed young, a close friend of the Hart family named Brian Pillman died young, the whole Montreal situation went down where he was betrayed by people he trusted, his Brother Owen of course died a senseless death, a good friend of the Hart family murdered his wife and son then took his own life, he was severely concussed and had his career cut short by someone who arguably didn't belong in the same ring, he then had a stroke while riding his bike which was likely caused by the concussion, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and fought it off, he lost his parents very close together, the family has been feuding with Owen's widow since 1999, he has been through 2 divorces, he lost another family friend in Roderick Toombs who was the only wrestler to visit him after his stroke, not to mention all the other friends and acquaintances he made through wrestling who died pre maturely, and his hall of fame career ended in a company full of backstage bs and office crap. I say let Bret be bitter. I don't agree with some of what he says but look at what the guy has been through and look at how his career ended. Sure, he could lighten up a little though I imagine it isn't easy for him. Give the poor guy a fuckin break.

      I am glad someone does. I am sick and fucking tired of listening to people disrespect a living legend. Bret has earned the right to say whatever he wants about the business. Not only because of his great career but the fact that he has dealt with enough tragedy and utter crap for 2 or 3 normal lifetimes. I can just imagine how tough it was being the other top guy with Mr. Boy Toy during the mid 90's when he was pilled out of his mind and brown nosing the crap out of Vince too. I also love it how people diss Bret for taking the business seriously. Bruce included, yet on this podcast he was sticking up for Shawn beating Bulldog after he dedicated the match to his Sister who had cancer which wasn't mentioned. And Shawn wouldn't lay down for anyone back then and told Bret that to his face. Whenever it was his turn he would be hurt or lose his smile. So I guess Shawn took the business too seriously as well huh?

    Dynamite kid is my favorite wrestler of all time. Look at his NJPW title victory. The match before the final where he wins the title he faced Davey boy and it is in that match that the famous injury happened to his back. Later on it was aggravated in the tag match. He hit the ropes and two steps into coming off the ropes or not even he just collapsed

    • @joshuamack342
      @joshuamack342 3 года назад

      Jumped over Orton and as soon as he hits the ropes he goes down. Carrer over December 13th 1986. Even though he lasted years after was never the same. I know Dynamite was pissed later on saying the back injury was Davey's fault.

    • @RemmySkye
      @RemmySkye 3 года назад

      @@joshuamack342 hey. I wrote that comment 2 years ago. Sad to say the GOAT passed away. He remains and will always be my favorite of all time. Now, you're right, he was pissed at Davey. Maybe you know some of the reasons but in case someone else is reading our exchange and doesn't, let me just say,
      Dynamite tortured Davey something atrocious and horrible. He might try to say it was hazing. Whatever. Nevertheless Dynamite was the first official British Bulldog. He was the first of his clan to be trained and Davey followed him. Daveys wife Diana had the genius to trademark the Bulldog name, fair play to her. And well never know all the reasons for their family fracturing. But years later when Dynamite was working the insanely extremely dead UK indy circuit and there were flyers in pubs and around small towns with Dynamite pictured and the word "British Bulldog Dynamite Kid" well Davey, with his 6 figure contracts all the way out in Calgary heard about this and had people threaten all kind of things to the small indy promoters not to call Dynamite the British Bulldog. Some kind of barrister or some form of law even came to Dynamite personally to warn him about it. The guy was barely making 10 pounds broken down brawling Fit Finlay and Alex Wrights dad in front of crowds of 10 to 20 people like a human cockfight and Davey, who was not the original Bulldog, was bitter enough to go after him for it. Davey came to town once in the early 90s after doing that to Dynamite. Dynamite came looking for him and Davey refused to see him.
      But more than that, much more is this. Dynamite, aside from his kids, maybe loved only 1 person, his dad. His dad was his everything. His dad was brother to Daveys mom. They were close as siblings could be. Dynamite also said, and it's hard to believe, considering, that Dynamites dad never cussed a day in his life and yet as he lay dying in hospice, having not spoken to his sister for years because of their children's feud... and the sister not seeing him when he was sick, well with Dynamite by his father's bedside a call came from the sister it was the only time Dynamite ever saw his dad cuss in his entire life when he told the person holding the phone to tell his sister to basically go F herself. Incredible!
      It's good reasons to be angry I think but I don't think Dynamite is lying about the injury to have further twisted the knife. I am gonna find the link and post it here for anyone interested. It is the same exact bump that put HBK out for 3 or 4 years. HBK got hurt at the 98 Royal Rumble and stayed off the injury until WrestleMania and then dropped the belt to Austin and his career was over for 3 years or more. Dynamite finished that match, had another match the same night. More Japan matches, 20 hour flights and grueling territory days wrestling then an early to mid 80s booming WWF run, nothing but insane further punishment to a crippling injury so that when the back gave out something as simple as hitting the ropes did it.

    • @joshuamack342
      @joshuamack342 3 года назад

      Wow you seem to have alot of inside info. About the injury though clear if you look at the ring, meaning the one in Japan were the injury first happened you can see there is an over hang when Davey suplexed Dynamite out of the ring. Always wondered if they discussed that, cause seems like Dynamite would have gone over that with Davey. I heard Diana say they called Tom about trademarking the name and he just laughed at them. Pretty shitty to go after Tom when he was struggling like that, he couldn't hurt Davey or his Contract. You said his kids and dad but I always heard that Tom loved his MOM very much. Question ....Do you know if Mania 3 was his first match back after the injury? I've seen pics of him about three weeks before Mania at home and I was shocked at how thin he looked. He definitely put some muscle on his frame in those three week's. Davey besides the early days 80-88 looked good no where near Tom's body but when he came back he always looked bloated to me. He must of got addicted to the roids and the way he looked. Still amazes me how quickly his body just broke down. At the end of the day he was still the greatest wrestler in the world!!! Thanks for getting back to me. .....

    I thought I was the only one that loved the 95 IYH Match with Bret more than the Wembley match. The Wembley match drew a huge crowd, but the IYH match was better worked. Less spots were botched, Davey looked better to (he had a gut and body fat in Wembley, and like Bruce said you had a heel and a face. Vince must have liked Davey, he was always pushed as a semi main event guy. I know a lot of it has to do with his physique. Always seemed liked Davey was a little higher up than Owen. Also, I agree with Bruce that Davey looked much better with short hair than the braids. Wish he would have got one world title run. Bret had many. Problem was I think Davey was around during the wrong time. First, they had the steroid trial, so a guy like Davey couldn't get pushed. Not only that, but titles didn't change hands everyday like they do nowadays and Vince was all about guys like Diesel, Bret, and Shawn. After Shawn's win at Mania he was deemed the guy and Vince wasn't doing any changes. Not only that but I think Davey's substance abuse hurt him at times, and he wasn't there mentally always.

    Okay, I gotta comment on the One Nite Only PPV mentioned around the 2:50:00 mark. I'm not an insider, but I was a fan and I did a little bit of wrestling myself a year or so after this. Doesn't make me an expert and I've never met any of the participants, so hey, fuck my opinion along with all of Dave Meltzer's, eh Bruce? But it's mine and I'm gonna give it. I don't find an ounce of fucking logic in saying that the screw finish on Davey in Manchester was designed simply to get heat and progress a story.
    a) The One Nite Only PPV wasn't even seen in North America and so far as I know (I could be wrong on this - you might know) there were no recap clips shown on major WWF shows either. Practically the entire audience for this show were Brits, which means any heat Shawn generated on the night went entirely to waste. Even if Americans had seen it, they would likely not have given much of a shit about the European belt anyway, much less Davey Boy, who was a heel to them and as you said elsewhere in this episode, there wasn't a huge amount of business in the UK anyway and even less so in the rest of Europe at the time. Putting the European belt on D-Lo Brown was pretty much a sign of how valuable that was.
    b) It wasn't done for a fucking story. Not only did Shawn never drop that belt back to Davey in a high profile rematch, they didn't even get a sniff of a programme, although I realise a month or two later everything went to shit regarding the Hart Foundation anyway. With Shawn slated to be moving on to higher things the following year so he could eventually be fed to Austin at Wrestlemania (should have been Bret and Austin 2 for the world strap at WM 14 IMHO - the greatest main event that never happened), the European belt should have been so far off his radar that he would have fallen over it without seeing it before
    winning it. At the time this went down I wasn't smart to the business, but I guessed a lot which subsequently turned out to be correct and I'd known it was pre-determined since around the time I learned to walk. So far as I could tell then and so far as I can still tell now over two decades later, that fuck finish on Davey was instituted for two reasons:
    1) Shawn, despite being gifted by nature with more wrestling talent than almost anyone else in history, was a dishonest, selfish, immature, drug-addled fucking wanker who enjoyed fucking any of the Hart contingent over any way he could because of his heat chiefly with Bret.
    2) Shawn could do any damn thing he wanted to the business, including devaluing and wiping his feet on it, because he figuratively had his dick in Vince's mouth. Vince has fired a LOT of people for fucking up or being rebellious over the years. Shawn committed so many fireable offences in the course of 95-98 but got to stay until he took his sabbatical for back surgery. The only thing that wasn't handed to him on the plate he chose, was Mike Tyson draping the Austin 3:16 t-shirt on him at Wrestlemania 14.
    The events of October and November 1997 killed my interest in continuing to follow the World Wrestling Federation stone dead and they've been in the grave ever since. One Nite Only remains the last time I ever gave the company any of my money and the subsequent Survivor Series was the last time I watched one of its shows. I realise Shawn was a heel trying to get heat, but
    the way he acted that night makes me feel fucking sick to this day. And not in a way that makes me want to tune in to see him get beaten, but in a way that made me walk away from the WWF forever in disgust and contempt. Shawn Michaels for me can forever be summed up as the man with so little class that he threw a knee brace at a woman dying of cancer to get some cheap heat which barely made it outside the building it took place in anyway.

You spend over 1hr talking about how the Bulldogs wife and family were upset with their direction in a story and then you say, "There is no feelings among the crew backstage." No wonder you killed your business.... you forgot the stupid stunts you pull may go over with the crowd but the wrestlers were tired of it. Davey Boy losing in England 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
    Michaels didn’t need the heat or title, it was just a one off PPV for the U.K. HBK was already hot as hell, and didn’t need extra heat.
    They could have just put the belt on HBK in the States the next week.
    And fuck it, if Michaels didn’t want to job, they could’ve just done a big shmozz and have Bulldog and the Harts standing tall at the end of the show.
    I can’t back or agree with Pritchard on this one to be honest.
    Genuinely think the Bulldog lost all his motivation after that match too, which was a shame. Then the back injury just wrecked him for good, but I do remember he had a right little belter of a match with Eddie Guerrero on heat, I’m glad that happened.
