- In this Scharwarzkopf Got2B Metallic Silver Hair Dye on dark hair (without bleach) review, I'm dying my hair from brown to silver. Or at least, that's the plan. Come along and find out if you have to bleach your hair first in order for this brand to work! Spoiler Alert: YOU DO
My Silver Hair Dye SUCCESS video is here : • Berina A21 Light Grey ...
Exactly the video i was looking for. I have very dark black hair and i always wondered how my hair qould turn out if i dyed it silver without using a bleach. Thanks for uploading.
+jptnepz Oh, wonderful! I'm so glad this was useful to you. I appreciate your comment and your kindness. 🌷
You'll have to bleach your hair more then once. My hair was light light brown and went through a few boxes so far bleaching and dying bleaching and dying and still hasn't worked lol
It will never work. You HAVE to bleach your hair......why wouldnt you bleach it? Why would you even think your hair would turn silver when it’s dark ? Its simple science and common sense
@@kayleeharrison7328 Thank you for this comment! I am not sure why so many people don’t read instructions or do research before messing with chemicals.
Oh my goodness. Your hair is so dark! I bleached mine out to a level 10. And then I used it and it came out exactly the way it is on the model, on the box. And I love it!!!!
@Lola Marie Hutchins-Swenson Nice! 😃 I'm so glad you commented. It's helpful to have your advice and we appreciate you. 💜
hair dye doesn't change your hair colour, it covers it. So if you hair is darker than the colour itself it won't work. It's kind of common sense.
+Superuniversal I can definitely see the logic there. In my personal experience, I have found many products that completely transformed my hair without the need for bleach. I've had positive experiences with the Got2B using the ruby red shade and the metallic blue shade. But! I now know that the silver shade is completely different. It's worth the experience to me.
Being Barton the red dye will cover your hair because it is equally as dark as brown hair..... while silver is light and brown is too dark. thats why only dark dyes will transform brown hair, it’s pointless to try any light colours on unbleached hair. This box dye says it lifts some levels..... but that won’t be nearly light enough for silver, you need to achieve a level 9 or 10 for it to even show up.
@@shannonkateparry1695 It is a lesson learned. 🙂
Hi, my name is Braden. *I am a licensed cosmetologist in the state of Texas.* I just wanna talk about the comments, and give y'all a little advice. I work exclusively with Schwarzkopf Professional color, so this boxed dye may be a little different.
If the color is meant for bleached blondes, then you're right about it maybe not being the best option for you. I'm not sure if you have color on your hair either, but that'd also affect the way it comes out. If yout hair was virgin, then I think I saw a little bit of warmth coming out from all the ammonia in that product.
The comment about color not lifting color is only partially true. People will NO color on their hair CAN use coloring products like this to lift their hair. I would expect to see about 2-4 levels of lift from boxed dye. Ut is true however that you can use dyes to color the hair darker.
I really wouldn't reccommend using any lightener on your hair after using this. From the way you describe it, it sounds very damaging. I would wait until you have virgin hair, use a good lightener and color, and lift and then tone your hair. 👍👍
@@bradenhathcock3863 Thank you for sharing your professional opinion. :) My hair was virgin hair in this video. And this product definitely did lift the color a bit...it also was really damaging. I've been trying out different grey hair dyes as more of my hair grows in. It's really interesting to me how much more difficult it is to get silver hair as compared with blue, purple, red...pretty much every other color I've tried. What is it that makes a light silver so hard to achieve?
I am so glad you made this video and that I found it. I was actually going to buy this product today and decided to see if I could find a review before doing so. My hair is the same color and same length as yours. You saved me some serious bucks and a lot of disappointment. Thank you!
@Deb Morgan Meyers I'm so glad, too! Your comment is a blessing. :)
I love this because there are people out there wondering what something like this does on their hair color 😊 Nice experiment for anyone just curious!
@PJ I appreciate your kindness. :)
I'm sorry some people commenting on here are so blunt with you. It's obvious to me you were just experimenting and some people are taking it way too seriously. I like expirementing with products like you, so this video was so helpful to me. Thank you 😊
@Liz Marie Thank you! You get me. 😘👏🙌
That seems like the trend these days. People take things to heart for no reason. I did the burgundy color one forgot the name. Really didn’t see to much results but was cool to try someydifferent.
Indeed ppl are so rude and we have to b so politically correct and ppl are "triggered" by things that aren't anything to b triggered about. Idk maybe I'm just old
2 years later but I back this up! This video is VERY helpful for me! I have blonde money pieces that I’ll dye over (and I know the results) but I was wondering if I should put it over the rest of my hair as well. (The rest of my hair is black and I don’t want the dye to mess with it) so this video is amazing!! Thank you for experimenting ♥️
Just spent 2 hours watching all your hair dye videos and I’m in love your so happy and your hair is amazing
Currently dying my hair too xx
+Elspeth Watkins I am dying my hair right now...ha! I am so determined to get beautiful silver hair before the morning. Thank God my hair puts up with me. ;)
I try to tell people unless you have white blonde hair to some blonde shade DO NOT waste money and get upset with the product that like having black hair and coloring it blonde you are not going to get much of a result back IMJ
+ENVYINGKILLS88 I've been spoiled, I think. You're right...this is one of those colors that you really need platinum hair for. Hair color is something I experiment with somewhat recklessly. For sure I've learned that sharing my hair color fails isn't appreciated. 😬
@@BeingBarton do you think if you had dark brown virgin hair with blonde and caramel highlights it would be somewhat effective?
@@jujube2407 I really think this color requires pale blonde hair to be effective, honestly. I spent the last year trying out every manner of silver hair dyes...and they all required blonde hair that was almost white in order to show up well. I bleach. I tone. I add the silver shade of choice. And then I try to condition, condition, condition. Because 3 rounds of harsh chemicals (going from brown to silver) just absolutely destroys my hair. 😬
My fear is that if you try a silver shade and it doesn't show up...your hair will experience damage for nothing. I hope this helps!
@@BeingBarton awesome response! But kids got on my last nerve tonight... ill see in 23 min what kind of mess I'm in... I went out... got some rum, some dip, and some hair dye... watch out...im making all kinds of reckless decisions tonight 🤪

@Gemma .knights If it can be done outside, I will do it outside. 🤣💕
Thank you! This was literally the only before and after I could find done without bleaching. I picked up a bottle for 6 bucks at Walmart cause I thought it was a beautiful color. I was mostly concerned that it would turn it some funky shade with my Auburn undertones with brown hair. Maybe I will do some gentle lighting before I use it then. Thank you for the helpful video!
@Ailene McGuire I'm so happy! Thank you for commenting. 🌻 I have come to use a lightener and a toner before going with silver dyes these days. It's quite a process going from brown to silver! 😅
If you want to have a really good color, and especially with silver. You don't want to pick up a $6 bottle at Walmart. Unless you are already a high level of blonde , you are going to have to bleach your hair to go silver. You will also need to use a toner most likely. You said you have auburn undertones so those are warm and silver is cool toned which would make it even harder to get it to that color.
I just dyed mine Mercury Blue today. Even though my hair was already light I still bleached it beforehand and it came out super blue.
@Brandon Patterson Nice✨. Do you like it?
@@BeingBarton I love it, just hoping it lasts longer than the previous dyes I've used.

Im thinking about this color after bleaching my hair! Thanks for staring 🙃
@Glenda Keeton Awesome! Please tell us what you think. ✨😘
they usually do not work or brown hair - you have to bleach out and then add back. ive been tryring to bring out my silver, but my brown keeps it from showing
@Patricia Knorr - Ionata Yes. I've been working on finding the right products and techniques to get a nice light silver for the past year...using wella toner has been HUGE. I lighten, tone, and then mix the color I like with conditioner before applying it. I've come a long way. Ha! When you find a product or process you like, please share it with me. :)
You and me both Barton. I just tried this earlier and it didn't work for me either. Note to self though: either a salon or a hair dye spray. At least when i first i did it with red it worked. Good thing you showed this. Hope nobody else makes the same mistake we made lol. Too much work anyway. Like me the hairlight is red.
@master of darkness asd These silver hair dyes are so much work, honestly. 😅 I appreciate that you had a similar experience and were willing to post about it. So many people seem unfamiliar with the notion of trying something that goes against instructions. 🤔
😀😀😀Girl thank you! I was still hoping it would at least lighten your hair, nothing! Thanks for saving me the headache. Still won't bleach my hair. Just want a good grey color or tint.🤔🤔🤔🤔
@Deb wright Just, what a mess. And after putting on a harsh color that did nothing...my hair was so fried. 🤦 It's good to be okay with yourself, I think. Especially when things turn pear shaped. 🤣 Thanks for commenting! 😘
☺️☺️☺️☺️Thanks! For your bravery and your comment as well. Will keep checking to see what you are into. Stay fearless! Love it!👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
@Deb wright Next week I am getting a prophylactic double mastectomy...I plan on working with a talented tattoo artist to get a killer chest piece done after my body heals. So I'll post about that in the Spring or Summer of next year. 💪🌻😘
Thanks for the upload! I was wondering what my hair would turn out like if I dyed it a grey colour x
@Clo F Thank you for the positive comment! We appreciate you. 🙂❤️
thank you for the review :)
Jessica Santo You're welcome! 🌻
Its not actually a dye, its a toner. The way it works is it puts purple pigment into blonde hair and cancels out the yellow into silver/gray. If the hair isn't yellow beforehand the purple wont have anything to cancel out.
@takeshii Thank you for explaining this. 🙂 I've tried a number of silver hair colorants since...after lightening my hair to a really light blonde...and it still seems like silver is just a tough tone to pull off. But yes, certainly it does not work at all over brown roots. 🤦
@@BeingBarton I think the most silver my hair has ever been was an accident. I bleached my hair to banana peel yellow, then colored with arctic fox girls night out (a light violet pastel) letting it fade out and then colored it with arctic fox periwinkle (a light blue pastel), then letting that fade out as well.
Those 2 dyes left enough pigment in the hair to cancel out whatever pigment was left, which makes sense because toner types are purple based and blue based.
Very helpful, thank you.
@Paulette Angel Colon I'm so glad! We appreciate your comment. 🌻
Says on box to use on pre-lightened hair
Who should have been bleached! For brown hair only red, black and dyes are good - blue, purple etc.
This will only work with blonde hair. It won't life dark color. You have to bleach it first. I think you would look really good with the silver though!
@Lawn Ornament Thank you! I had success after this really awful failure. 🙈🤷♀️💕
I think this should be retitled it was not a fail as it’s for hair that’s already lightened. It’s an experiment video. When the title says fail then it gives the wrong impression.
@Keri Norton-Blanks I appreciate your comment and your thoughts. I consider this to be an accurate title...but it's certainly fair to note that I experimented with the product. It's helpful that youtube offers the chance to describe a video's content in more detail under the description area. My hope is that folks will check out the description before clicking on a video. But I will go back and see if there might be a better way to label this content. Thank you. 😘
Well I liked your review... and thanks for saving me 17 dollars.. I would have bleached my hair first to try this but after reading others abojt their already blonde seems pointless. Great review. Thanks.
@Marissa E Thanks for commenting. :) I enjoy coloring my hair and sharing my experience. You can find this product cheaper if you live near stores well stocked with things like this. For sure, ordering from Amazon has been more costly. But it's worth it to get things not available near me. If you end up trying another brand, please let us know how it goes. 🌻
It isn’t 17 dollars. not at retail price anyway. At my local shop it’s literally £5.
@@shannonkateparry1695 I appreciate that it's less expensive near you...I hope others have an easier time finding this product cheaper as well. I paid $17 purchasing this from Amazon... it's good to know that you found it for less. 🌷
Well dont feel bad.... My son has blonde hair and it did nothing to his hair either and i left it in for 40 min....
+Leticia Neal Wow! That's wild. I appreciate you sharing. I had success using a Feria shade, but it was a lot darker than this metallic silver seems to be. Although, I'm not sure that many people actually get to this shade, even with naturally light hair or after bleaching. It seems like a real stretch. 🤔
Thank you for the video.
@Roxy Con I appreciate you 🙂
I appreciate your video and the professional advice from the Liscened beautician in the comments. If it's any help, your natural hair color is pretty.
@Tina F Thank you. 🙂 I love it when people comment. This video alone would not be helpful to nearly as many people without the advice given in the comments. 💕
Well I’m dying my hair with the same color so i know it’s not gonna work but I got red hair dye just in case
@valariebedard8225 That's a good idea. If you don't have bleach on hand, this shade isn't likely to work. But red is a solid second choice. 💓
I just used this, and I'm wondering if I bleached it again, would it turn, white. I've already had 2 bleach sessions done. My goal is to achieve white hair but a bright silver would be nice for now.
@K9BLKD1NG01 Hopefully others will share advice here for you, too...but I will say that using Wella T18 toner with 20 volume developer has helped me achieve a nice platinum/white shade. (That's after lightening with a Feria Ultimate Platinum shade.) 🙂
@@BeingBarton Yeah I don't need too many opinions though, experience is always welcomed of course, but I think I did grab a Feria product, must have been the platinum blonde because on the back it showed dramatic change to medium blonde. Which was where my hair was at after the first treatment. Maybe I'll grab another one, but I already put a metallic silver dye on it thinking it would give it a shiny gray tone, but its a bit darker than expected.
@@1Turnatatime Have you ever tried using toner? It has made a dramatic difference for me.
@@BeingBarton No, I haven't, I can try to look into it, I'm going to the store tomorrow, is T18 the one I should grab, im sure there's a million different ones to choose from.
@@1Turnatatime Wella T18 has been my go-to. It removes brassiness and the results are silver/white.
I put it on my blonde bleached and it turned out great...i paid $10 @ dollar general
@Karina_Beas Nice! :) I started ordering hair products from Walmart after this...and I now I have no idea why I didn't think to look at Dollar General. Thank you for posting. Can I ask how long you left the color on for? It seems like this is a hit-or-miss shade (even for folks who follow the directions).
@@BeingBarton i left it for 30ish...i always leave colors in a little longer.
@@salcedok63 Wow. That's cool. I was thinking maybe you left it on for a shorter length of time. It's good to know.
@@BeingBarton what do you not understand about the fact that you need to bleach it first for it to work.
@@kayleeharrison7328 Hi 🙂 I like to experiment and see things for myself. This video is intended for other folks who might wonder if lightening your hair is necessary. We appreciate your comment.
You have to bleach first. Mine is short, I bleached it, and tonigh I’m adding silver
Why are there so many dislikes? People need to give her a break it's not the end of the world.
@Bo Young Thank you 🌸
Um.... Wouldn't be easier to use blonde hair dye first and then use the silver grey hair dye so that way it won't fail.
@FirePrincessHino Hi.🙂 This video is for folks who want to know if lightening your hair is necessary when trying to go from brown to silver. Not everyone will find this helpful, but some people will. ✨
Color won’t lift color. Bleach lifts color. My hair is a smidge lighter than yours and I’d definitely have to bleach it to achieve that silver/gray tone. Still a great video 😊
@Monica Rose Wilson Thank you. I really hope this helps other people who might be curious about whether or not lightening first is important. The product is harsh. For folks with finer hair, it would be problematic to do this experiment, if you will. 🤦 I appreciate your kind words. 🌻
Not for dark hair its a colour not a bleach or lightener...smh what a waste. Like oh i got black hair and i buy blonde hair dye what do you think will happen lol
+Jana I totally get it. Not something you would do. 🤷 But I am happy to know what happens for myself. And now, my hair is a beautiful silver...I lightened it and tried again. All's well that ends well. 🌷
@@BeingBarton I'm glad you did. I appreciate that you tried what I was hesitant to.
+Jay Thank you. :) I think because I have used different shades of this product before with fantastic results, I just didn't immediately rush to bleach my hair. And, now I know. Silver is tricky. 🤔
Blonde dye on black hair goes brown. That's how I used to dye my hair brown.
I have naturally blonde hair and tried this product tonight.... HUGE FAIL!!! My hair didn't change color at all during the dye and once dried I have a tiny silver highlight that you wouldn't notice unless pointed out!
+Denise Bednar Ugh! I was thinking that maybe if I just lightened my hair, this might work for me in the future. But it just seems like a really hit or miss product...even if you do what the box says. 🤔 I really appreciate your input on this.
Looks like our dark hair has to be pre lightened before we can use this. Just take a break after you initially bleach. I'd wait at least a week or two before using this on fresh bleached hair. Take your time if you want to keep the hair healthy.
Girl that stuff is 10$ at walmart
@Delena Fanning Thank you for commenting. 🙂 It's a huge plus if you live near a Walmart that carries this product, definitely. Not all stores do. I appreciate the heads-up and I hope your observation is helpful to others. 🌷

Jennifer Trejo Aww!! My hubby likes the colors more...but I am in a silver mood, even still. I have gotten more into the process. I bleach, then wait a few days. Then I tone with a wella toner and wait a few more days. And then I add the color. ✨I am wishing you the best!🌻
You can’t dye your hair a light color with dark hair without bleaching it or lightening it because it won’t work
@Magen Braman You are correct, and your insight is valuable. I can attest. 😅😘
I use this brand all the time for me but there is a huge difference between my hair and other peoples hair

any hair color that has such a very strong odor that even when you are outdoors means it has a very high ammonia content. @@uabir8338 I would say so...depending on your comfort level with new root growth showing. I hadn't experienced the need to bleach AND tone before these silver shades. The requirement for super light blonde hair as a base was just really hard to achieve. When I tried with a yellow-y blonde, the silver didn't stick.

Unfortunately your hair was to dark
@Uniniversal Star Yes. 🤦♀️ What a mess. I don't know why I was so afraid of bleach and toner...or why I thought that the color would show up on my dark hair. It's been a learning experience! 😅
Yes bleach your hair first it do not work on dark hair
@P Spicee I hope there is someone else out there wondering if bleach is necessary. 🙈
@@BeingBarton to be honest if they read the box first it tell and shows you what color the hair has to be and not to put it on dark colored hair so if I were you I would delete his video but you do teach people the importance of reading and following directions! But leave it it’s funny you did it without reading all the writing on the box or the color the hair must be! You are funny 😄 ha ha ha
@@pspicee3383 Girl, I am all about 'let me see for myself'...I gave my parents ALL the gray hairs. 😅
Color doesn't lift color hun.
@Wisty Roamlands You are not kidding. 🤣
I think I can smell the hair dye through the screen 🤢
@Sweetest girl ASMR Yeah, it is a strong smell. 😬
U should bleach your hair before so it is not the product fault it is yours.
@Raquel Millas I appreciate your comment. Yes, this is the result of experimenting with a color outside of what the directions state...absolutely it is my failure, not the products. 😅
Well, duh.
+Miss KrazyKat Yup. ;)
You didn’t follow directions. Your hair was too dark.
@Moon Beamer Yes. I was surprised that nothing happened.
It tells you ON THE BOX to use it in bleached blonde or light blonde hair. This “fail” is because you can’t read, not because the product is subpar.
@Amanda Turner Hi. 🙂 You are correct, this fail is 100% due to my decision to experiment with a product I was unfamiliar with. My apologies if it appears that I have blamed the product for my own choices. Thank you for commenting. We appreciate you. 🌻
I do not understand how on Earth people think that a hair dye is going to magically turned their hair a completely different color!
@Flannery Red It's fun to try things... even if you make an obvious error. I want people to know that curiousity is something shared. Maybe another person wonders what will happen if they try to skip bleaching? 🤷♀️ We appreciate your comment. 🌻
Uhmn, if you READ the box, second ingredient is "Peroxide" in the developr ! And it reccomends using it for BLONDE hair. . DUHHhhhhhhhhh!
@Jebijou Hi. 🙂 It's okay to stray from the instructions and try a thing that's new for yourself. I love experimenting with my hair...and it's okay if you need to comment how you feel. I welcome your thoughts. 🤗
Color doesn't lift color babe. You'd have to bleach 1st with that dark of hair to start with 🥰
@Dawn Scott Yes. Thank you for offering helpful advice with kindness. 🌷🏆
@@BeingBarton you are more than welcome beautiful 😘

@evelyn ollet You just made my day. 🥰 Thank you!

WHY IS HER HAIR CUT LIKE A FUR BALL??????????????????? #90'Sfail 🤦♀️
@Ric Owens My mom was losing her hair to chemo and she didn't know how to wear wigs. I shaved my hair so that we could wear wigs together. 💜 She passed away on Christmas Eve. I understand that this hair style is not a style...it's the look of hair starting to grow back.
Being Barton So sorry to hear that story. 😔
@Ric Owens If I saw someone with this hairdo...or the styles I went with while my hair was growing back...I would wonder what the heck was going on. I appreciate that you took time to watch the video. Wishing you the best. 🌻 ruclips.net/video/8-A1GRHCEqQ/видео.html
I’ve been a cosmetologist for over 25 years i am not shocked by your result because they clearly told you you needed to be blonde to begin with. You’ve got to believe the manufacture is telling you the truth because they don’t want to be responsible if it doesn’t work out. Also Color doesn’t remove color. Only color remover or bleach would remove it. As far as lifting your natural hair depending on how many levels you can use color or bleach. But again color will not remove previous color. That’s why stylists bleach your hair first because that’s the only way to get to the color you were trying to get to. This is why licensed professionals pay big money $10,000.00 plus to go to school to learn how to use all the products that are out there 😂. Also your hair is short enough that bleaching it one time isn’t going to cause harm unless it’s done wrong. If you truly want to learn what to do I would suggest that you go to a cosmetologist who specializes in these type of colors and get it done and ask allot of questions and you might be able to do it yourself after that. Or you can always buy a wig with the color you want that way your hair will not be damaged in the process.
