I just took a long trip with FSD 12.5.1 and now using 12.5.1.1. I love FSD but my problems with it are mostly on the highway. 1) We've been traveling this week and three times the navigation said to take an exit but FSD did not exit. 2) One time I was getting onto a secondary highway,. The navigation said turn right but FSD tried to turn left. 3) The worst thing is when you have an exit lane added that is not very tapered but just appears full width (urban). FSD takes a very sharp right turn and I have to take over because it is going too fast to recover from the sharp turn. 3) The other more minor issues related to speed limits. When I pass from a lower speed zone to a higher speed zone, the car does not accelerate. 4) It IS doing better at slowing down when the speed changes. 5) It sometimes doesn't see the speed change sign, too. Thanks for listening.

I haven’t had issues with speed limit signs, but I’m on EAP, not FSD (though it should work the same? Different stacks?).
I have other issues though on the freeways.
      1. Phantom braking in the clear and fast moving carpool lane, because the car thinks the adjacent traffic is slowing (well, duh, carpool lanes are usually faster?)
      2. Racing a merging car in the on-ramp while driving in the right lane of the freeway, until you have to step on the brakes to avoid a crash. Behaves as if it never even saw the merging car.
      3. Braking late, and then, way too strongly for slowing or stopped traffic on the freeway in your lane.
      4. Phantom braking for unknown reasons still persists.

I just did three range tests in my 2023 MYP out in the Arizona desert. I had lots and lots of vision nags on all three trips, and I finally realized that when I was heading due east in the afternoon that my transition lenses were very slightly changing. That resulted in sunglasses detected and failure of vision monitoring, but it only happened when I was facing east. I've now added a sunshade (partially to help range as climate was taking 40% of my battery at 115F), and the nag problems are gone.

I had two very close calls on unmarked narrow country lanes. With a car approaching and almost coming past, my model Y tried to veer directly into the oncoming car. I couldn't believe it until it happened again on the same road going the opposite direction. Good that I was "supervising" and able to force the car out of fsd. The odd thing about it was that this exact situation happened frequently with 5.1 but never had it try to veer into the path of an oncoming car. I reported the reason I took control and then when I had more fully regained my composure, I reported it as a "bug report". It will take a lot before I release fsd on that road again. 5.1.1 seemed disappointing and I was a virtual evangelist for 5.1

They make jerky turns sometimes, drive slow randomly, can have trouble merging but will get it done, does things you probably wouldn’t but is acceptable. Just had a family vacation road trip from Nebraska to Des Moines, Minneapolis, Hayward, WI, Duluth, MN, and back home. FSD was really great on the trip. I would usually take over in town and when traffic got aggressive. But, the reduced effort on long drives in a game changer!!! There is a weird stretch of road in Southwestern Minnesota that it was annoying on though. It's highway that is built like interstate (4 lane, divided grass median) and 65mph. It wouldn't see the 65mph signs, although it saw every other 50, 45, 35 etc when going through towns. So, it would constantly reduce speed from my desired 75mph down to 68ish. I'm not suyif it was adjusting for road surfaces or if the bright sun in our face was effecting cameras or what. No warnings or notifications. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @andrewt9204

Probably highway 52 or 14. I travel hwy 52 for work but I don't use AP, it's more annoying to me than it's worth IMO. So I don't know how those roads affect my car. I wish I could even get rid of TACC and just have dumb cruise like I've been using the last 20 years. Or at least give me that option until TACC/AP/FSD is near perfect.
The one thing that is annoying (at least in MN) is so many towns have "end 30 MPH" signs as you leave. My car still thinks the speed limit is 30 until it sees another limit sign or I turn on a different road. It's so dumb, why waste time putting up a sign that says "end 30". So is the speed limit 50? 55? 60? 100?!!... lol.
I know the law is unposted rural roads are 55, city roads 30, but so many rural roads are 60 now.
And there's a couple roads around me that think the limit is 65 when they are posted 35 and 55. It's like tesla ignores those signs, so strange.

    • @jakekarll8294
      @jakekarll8294 2 месяца назад +1

It doesn’t “read” signs. There’s no code that runs like OCR software. This version is purely runs by looking at examples of how human drivers drive, then learning how to drive based on its meteors of how humans drive. It eventually sees enough examples of what happens for example, when a human comes upon a stop sign. It learns that when it sees that type of road sign, that it means it needs to come to a stop and wait its turn. There probably isn’t enough examples of this situation being handled correctly in the training set, thus it made that turn. Future versions will continue getting better exponentially

    • @paulsandgren8625

HW3 owners have been repeatedly told, without qualification, that their cars would do FSD. If it can't, can you say 'class action' boys and girls? It looks like you are driving here in Colorado? If so, you should try it in situations where there are right turn decel / accel lanes, both making the turn and dealing with others acceleration out of it. The right turn from Hwy 42 to 95th street in Lafayette is a good example. Also, while traveling on 287 in the right lane past side roads where there is traffic doing right turns and accelerating to merge. The roads you are driving are pretty straightforward.

FSD still accelerates at inappropriate speeds, even if it sees that there's a red light at the next intersection,. Potholes are going to be long-lived issues as FSD still can discern pavement that is in bad shape. 12.5.1.1 on HW4 is a lot smoother than prior versions and nags even with light-sensitive glasses worked well., but I wonder if polarized sunglasses are an issue. You might get a system to be about 95% reliable, but never close to 100%. Right now, this FSD is more like 75% there (with reliability in the 75% of the cases)

That high valuation will only be supported by a tech company. Thus, only the promise of FSD working, and Robotaxis working can justify Tesla being perceived as a tech company. However, this goal is still far away. How long will the fans, friendly analysts and the spineless Tesla board continue to hope for this to happen? Only time will tell. My guess is, if FSD and Robotaxis do not materialize by the end of the year, Tesla stock could see a big sell off.

If Tesla "Full Self Driving" (FSD) learns by observing what human drivers do, it would pick up all the bad driving as much as the good driving. Presumably Tesla has a way of letting the computer understand which driving examples it should follow and which it should not. Making a left turn at a "right turn only" sign (06:30 in video) is illegal and dangerous. I thought FSD was learning to understand street signs, and a "no left turn" sign seems quite simple to understand. This is a troubling error by FSD after it has been in development for so many years.

There was no danger at all. The driver can take over at any moment, as they did twice. And the car monitors where the driver is looking and alerts if he's looking away for more than a few seconds.
According to statistical data this arrangement was safer than humans a few main versions ago already.

@@andrasbiro3007Never any danger at all? Yeah, illegal left turn from a right turn on,y lane is very safe, people do it every day! 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️
Driver can take over any time? Don’t call it Full Self Driving, then. ( though Fool Self Driving is apt) It is a poorly executed, level 2 ADAS system people like you like to believe is truly ‘level 3, robotaxi level’. 🤣 no matter what the reality is, you will continue your BS here, ‘Tesla can do no wrong, blah blah blah blah blah’.

finally a decent non FSD fluffer review..FSD on highway is DSD (dangerous self driving)..additional to uselessness of no return to lane change, useless ramp behaviour..are the true dangers briefly mentioned cameras..when they can't see FSD dies immediately which is very dangerous..i've suffered that death multiple times in blizzards, heavy fog, heavy fog and a couple of weeks ago 4 times in 20 minutes in light fog (i could see the see, see all traffice)..pure garbage and yesterday it suffered death as it was about to crash into the back of transport truck..self-parking in a Costco is clown show stuff..if they can't fix highway DSD give out a shiny toy..unless "single stack" fixes camera unseeing issue it will remain useless garbage.

I like the "eh whatever" attitude. The car is definitely fast and attentive enough to do an illegal left turn - no harm done really.

    12.5 was better than 12.5.1
