- LOST IN VENEZIA
You landed today
With walls in your way
Adrift on a sliver of moon
A suitcase of pain
Behind you like rain
And trailing you oceans from home
You’re in a maze of wind
Where the bells chime amen
And you’re praying
Praying for your sun to rise again
You’re in a matrix game
Where the road has no name
And you’re lost in
Lost in Venezia
He led you astray
With guise of escape
And brilliance a star’s throw away
The sea in his eyes
Awakened your tide
Then left you a dream in his wake
You’re in a maze of wind
Where the bells chime amen
And you’re praying
Praying for your sun to rise again
You’re in a matrix game
Where the road has no name
And you’re lost in
Lost in Venezia
You’re in a maze of wind
Where the bells chime amen
And you’re praying
Praying for your sun to rise again
You’re in a matrix game
Where the road has no name
And you’re lost in
Lost in Venezia
You’re in a maze of wind
With the walls closing in
And you’re praying
Praying for your sun to rise again
You’re in a matrix game
Where the road has no name
And you’re lost in
Lost in Venezia

This is the sixth original song in my Drums-First Series, which are songs that I write originating with drums. Normally I write with guitar so this series is a creative journey meant to send me in new directions. How it works is I sit behind the drum kit and come up with a few parts that I think work together (verse part, chorus part and maybe a bridge or instrumental part), figure out the structure of the song and then record the drums for the whole song. At this point I have no preconceived idea what the melodic instruments or vocals will be doing. The drums lead, followed by bass and then guitar and vocals as well as keys. I build the song layer by layer based on what works nicely with the previous layer. I am having so much fun creating songs this way and I hope you enjoy taking this journey with me :)

Wow Vesper, love your creativity with this one! Another amazing production 👏
Cat meows are extra special 🥰
Thank you so much, Katerina! It was fun using my travels to fuel my creativity and glad you appreciate it! 🙂
Mama mia, that's a spicy meatball! Well done you. Wonderful harmonies and I love the visuals. Peace always, Kevin
Mama mia, that's an awesome comment! Thank you, Kevin 🙂
Ah! Ottimo Lavoro!! Great Job!! This is so great. I love it!!!
Aw, thank you!! ❤
super creativity and composition 🎼💯😊
Thank you 🙌
Really like the lyrics Vesper. Very cool progression how your Original builds and builds throughput from the start of those wonderful percussions. Enjoying my listen and super cool video too. Black and White adds so much.
Thanks so much, Darren, for your insightful comment! This one is very different from anything I've written before and it kinda took me for surprise at where it wanted to go. Glad you enjoyed it!
Great original and thanks for the explanations about your creative process 🙏👍👍
Thank you, GQJ! I really appreciate your kind support and glad you liked it! 🙂
I LOVE THIS! the title, lyrics, video, music and special appearance by Sharkey the cat.
I love the creativity coming out of you, stepping outside your comfort zone and taking that leap of faith.
I was wondering how your recording was going since we didn't see any new posts, especially after the flurry of Drums First creations.
After the black and white, mysterious mood of the video, it was good to see a smiling face at the end. :)
Welcome home!
Thanks so much, Richard.....So happy you like it and appreciate your thoughtful comments. Yeah, it took me a bit of time to get back into the swing of things after my long European adventure but I did have a plan for a song based on Venice all along and even filmed the footage there with my future song in mind, even though at that point I didn't know what it would sound like. Next I am moving on to a cover of Zep's When the Levee Breaks with some friends but I will also be writing more original songs too. Stay tuned! 🙂
@@Vesper_Songs I really like how you were able to use your own video footage, and using black&white is perfect.
I like the drum kit you used on this as well.
You seem to be getting more comfortable using the Model 12, which allows you to focus more on recording than learning as you go. I had that experience recently using my Tascam DP24SD when I took a break from the computer.
If you have any free time and a pair of headphones, I'd be honored if you check out my newest song "Listen".
No pressure or anything like that, only if you have time, if not no worries.
Your new collaboration doing the Levee Breaks songs sound like fun, as well as ambitious.
I'm sure the break from working solo will be both rewarding and fun.
I would love to visit Italy some day. I spent a lot of time in Asia during my military days, but nothing in Europe.
Not bad song. Very good singing!
Thank you 🙂
