    For chord root note on the given string, play chord shape from the low root:
    6:E 3:49 maj 4:21 min
    5:A 5:07 maj 5:20 min
    4:E 6:37 maj 7:10 min
    3:A 8:02 maj 8:46 min
    2:D 10:48 maj 11:17 min (for both major and minor versions also play the chord fifth on the 3rd string)

    I've been playing guitar for 47 years and consider myself to be a pretty fair player. I already knew the content of this video but it took me a long time to figure it out. I just wanted to say that your teaching method is so good, explaining what needs to be explained without getting overly technical and complicating the message. Unfortunately too many of the youtube guitar teachers either over explain or try to explain in a "music theory" way that makes some of them difficult to understand. Sometimes I think they are just trying to impress people with their knowledge of music theory. Kudos for an excellent video!

    Love it. When I was little my parents wouldn't let me practice my piano so I would go into my bedroom and play my guitar. I was self taught (other than piano, reading etc.) except for one guitar lesson. I fired the teacher because he kicked my dog out of his way. I was 8 or 9. I figured out all of these chord combinations by myself and I share them with my students now. They are the best especially for people with little hands.

I was explaining to my brother, just last week, how to add variety to his play by changing the shapes of chords further up the neck, and, hey, presto, your video shows up. A bit more technical than me, but clearly and simply clarifying the principle. And for once, no ,Look at me, how quickly I can zip up and down the neck" showing off. Top notch lesson.

  • @StefanGBucher

    0:33-"It totally beats the CAGED system!" Goes ahead and teaches... the CAGED system. It's "Use CAGED, but just don't play all the strings, because that makes it a a lot easier." Done. Still a great lesson, just... it's CAGED.

    • @TaylorDeanBarnett
      @TaylorDeanBarnett  Год назад +1

      The acronym CAGED stands for the chord shapes used around the neck, C shape, A shape, G shape, E shape, and D shape. The E, A, and D shapes are taught here, but the C and G are not, because they are not very practical (especially the G shape). It's simply a different way of looking at it and thinking about it, while also making the chord shapes easier.

    • @jmcintire1188
      @jmcintire1188 Год назад +2

      You have just presented a simplified version of CAGED. It isn't really a different way of thinking about it... more like a scaled back (pun intended) way of presenting it for beginners. Not a bad way to do it since it focuses on easy and practical shapes but it doesn't "beat" CAGED since it's essentially the same thing. I think some of the negative reaction is due to the click-baity title.@@TaylorDeanBarnett

    • @jmcintire1188
      @jmcintire1188 Год назад

      I basically said exactly that... Certain chords (practical and easy shapes). I was just pointing out that some of the negative comments are due to the title of the video, not the content which is totally fine. I don't see how that is being "anal" at all.@@Stringbean421
