I use to feel this way about someone. I had to cut them out of my life completely. Keep in mind that if you feel this way now, you will always feel this way about that person until you pick yourself up, dust yourself off and move on. Do not allow someone to bring such toxicity to your life. And do not hold a grudge. You cannot try to make someone feel a certain way and then feel resentment when they do not. Save yourselves.
It astonishes me that someone who was so young when she recorded this could capture so beautifully and so nakedly the anguish and sweetness of the experience of falling in love. my girlfriend sent this to me in 2010 when we first started seeing each other. All these years later, although we are no longer a couple, this song still makes me cry like a baby. You are a genius and a Goddess, Ms Nash.
@@grinsko6741 similar thing for me - I first heard this song around the time Made Of Bricks came out when I was 17/18 and I remember my partner at the time recommending the album to me. I felt such heartache when hearing this track, and even though it’s been over a decade since that relationship ended, I still feel that pain when I hear this song. I think it resonates with me still because I’ve always been the one who falls the hardest.
I wish you had a favorite beauty spot that you loved secretly, cuz it was on a hidden bit that nobody else could see. Basically, I wish that you loved me. My heart breaks every time I hear this song because of its sheer authenticity. Thank you so much, Kate
The very saddest and most beautiful love song I've ever heard... The simpler it is the more beautiful it sounds to me... As if Kate was singing all that I wish I could say to The One...
Siulka I absolutely agree. For many years now I have considered this to be the most beautiful, melancholy, love-you-from-afar, crush, unrequited love, love songs in the world. Part of the magic is that ‘simple’ sound. But make no mistake, it is carefully, masterfully crafted to sound simple, when it’s anything but. She speaks the song slowly, almost talking, with frequent nervous breaks and stutters, as if she’s formulating the words on the spot. The music is as basic as it can sound. Even on stage she acts shy and points her toes inward like a shy puppy. It’s a masterpiece of manipulation. But count me mesmerized, and happily so.
"I wish I was, your, favourite girl. I wish you thought, I was the reason, you were in the world" The simplicity of it makes it so meaningful and heart felt. You're either going to connect to this song or you aren't.
I'm late to the party but this song is fire! I am a 50 year old just hearing this song this year. So beautifully written and sung. I think I have played this song at least 5 times today
Listening to this song for the first time since high school. I fell very hard for one of the kindest men I’ve ever met. And he let me know (in the kindest way possible) that he wasn’t interested in me in that way. It still hurts and I’ve never related to this song more ♥️.
I've fallen in love with the violinist. Her expression as she plays seems like she has been there before as we all have. Heartbroken, caused by loving from afar. With that being said, Kate Nash's voice is so raw and rich that it immediately sends you reminiscing down memory lane.
This is the most beautiful songtext in the world. It breaks my heart when I hear this, everything is so true about this, this is just so so so fierce!! Someone who writes texts like this is a real real real talent
I’m feeling this song her voice is beautiful, soulful and so unique those lyrics are so realistic and the violin along with the guitars is a whole experience thanks to Behind Her Eyes season 1 episode 1 on Netflix for bringing me here🙋🏾♀️❤️🥰
Not living in an English speaking world with all the great music programs such as Jools Holland I completely missed out on Kate Nash until now and only discovered her because I felt like listening to A new England By Billy Bragg and thereby discovering Kate, sometimes life can be so wonderful.
I first heard this when I was in high school and it didn’t hit me as much as it does now, I’m 26 with 2 kids most likely going through a divorce, basically losing my best friend
Oh wow I didn’t realize I wrote this haha but I’m doing AMAZING met a guy who understands me and got my own place. Life has been great since I left my ex!
The lyrics, the violin...wow! A confession set to music and sung so eloquently. Unless you've loved someone this much, you can't possibly understand how it hurts when they don't feel the same. It's easy to forget how many share this sorrow. If you see this Kate, thank you for the reminder. I feel a little less alone.
this song made me cry the first time i ever heard it :( so beutiful. it makes me think about lots of things, and i think im in love with this lad, but i know i cant have him :(
This song doesnt relate to anyone in particular to me. It just makes me cry because its what i want from someone. I wish i was 'someones' favourite girl. I wish i meant that much to someone...
+Amazing.Amy Right!?!? "The Nicest Thing" is absolutely one of my favorite songs. I could listen to it over and over. She did a cover of it for Vogue back in Feb and I almost cried because it was so terrible. Ugh, at least I have this version and the "Live at Abbey Road" version!
16 years later and I’m still saying that this is one of the best versions of nicest thing you’ll come across. I hope today someone is still listening!

The violin broke my heart.
Not every emotion and feeling has to be expressed in metaphor. The simplicity of the lyric and underlying emotion is the beauty of the song.
In 2020 this track is still underrated.Masterful writing.✌🏻🏴
Still underrated in 2023
As soon as I heard "I wish that you knew when I said 2 sugars, actually I meant 3" I decided to get this album. So glad I did.
This is my favorite part. The "paying attention to the small things"
