- In this video, I need to check and adjust my spring pressure in my Tial 44mm external wastegate. This method applies to any wastegate though. Enjoy

This helped so much! On my 335, the wastegate opens at 8psi and then once I get to ~6krpm the boost jumps up to 10-11 of the spring pressure. It sucks because the entire pull I’m at 8psi till the end. I thought my wastegate was bad, time to up the boost now and have my Mac solenoid control it
Yeah exactly right, an electronic boost controller will keep it shut til the very last second. With a spring only it's always going to have that gradual progression from closed to open
I have a 2009 335i. Having boost issues at 144k Mike's but always babied it. Have jb4 G5 with methanol. How do you know it's at 8psi? I'm trying to track down the failure. Just replaced my solenoids with OEM because I was having a solenoid boost error. I have a vacuum gauge and have replaced all hoses.
if the fire ring is not instaled it will lift sooner looking like a lower spring the fire ring is puched up agenst the valve so the piont where the air pressure lifts the valve off the fire ring it the rated pressure sins the riging is not in there your gessing where its would lift not to say that wount give you an idea of what spring is in it
Good one
My wastegate wasn’t opening until 25 psi on a 14.5 psi spring. I put it down to 13.05 spring and it starts to crack at 19 psi. Idk what’s going on. Any ideas?
Your wastegate spring pressure rating is half of what your boost level will be from what I’ve been lead to believe.
I have an 8lb spring and I see 16lbs flat when running just off gate. I’m not sure the science behind it but that’s how it seems to work.
You can look up charts to read that the manufacturer of your wastegate will make to tell you what spring to run for what your reading on your boost gauge is at idle. So your negative pressure.
@@thornsaw dang. I always thought it would crack at whatever spring pressure you installed. I put the 8.7 in and now it opens at 14.5.
@@85nscarola do you have your boost reference line hooked up properly?
I’m having this issue right now, was on an E85 map it was working fine then I flashed a new 91 map went to get a log and over boosts to 22psi and fuel cuts. positive I have a 14psi spring as when I did logs for my E85 tune it would peak at 14 psi on gate pressure
@@thornsaw you are completely wrong
So I need need a boost controller to run , or can I just go straight spring pressure for a while
Straight spring if you want
Mate does a wastegate spring control the boost level if I put a 7 psi spring it will boost 7? Anyone know
Yes if your system is flowing properly and it doesn't boost creep
Alright thanks mate 👍👍👍👍👍
@@boostedbuiltgarage ive got an external gate on my evo, put a turbo smart mbc on it and without even adjusting it the car boosts to 20+ psi?? With the mbc removed it holds 10psi all day
@@unfknknown9678 sounds like your mbc is the problem, make sure you've routued the lines properly into the external gate, there's properly a diagram somewhere on the internet, or you could have a faulty mbc
question: is it better to have correct spring in westgate and control
boost just by that or have weaker spring and control boost via boost
control?? i know in 1st version You wont be able change boost level
without changing spring but are there any cons with boost controller
apart of easy level change??
Definitely the best control (other than CO2 control) to use an electronic boost controller with a weaker spring and control it with that. Much faster boost response and better control. Though rule of thumb you don't want the spring any less than half the boost you intend to run
Can i connect the top port WG with vaccum intake ???
Yes you can, as long as it sees boost too. I actually do this on my cars.
@@boostedbuiltgarage thanks for u info bro..
top should be either vent to atmosphere or hooked up to boost controller. Not vacuum source.
@@CSOCSO so i have 2 ports on my wastegate, should the hose to mbc go to the top port on wg? Currently without the mbc on it goes to the bottom port
Is that wastegate original?
As in genuine?
@@boostedbuiltgarage yes
Isn't the rated spring pressure at full open?
Yeah that's right. Although it's also handy to know when it will start to crack (if you're running solely wg spring pressure)
I want to say that is a fake Tial wastegate.
It is
