Love my SOG. One of my favorite things about this is you can actually switch out the included bits with others that don't come with the kit to customize it depending on how you're going to use this. 👍
I purchased the deluxe and it's my EDC. LOVE IT! I have used SOG for years and only replaced it recently because somehow I lost it. I had to get a SOG to replace it and so now I have the deluxe.
Whelp, just ordered up the black oxide Deluxe to replace my lost Powerpint. Looking forward to my first full-size MT. Thanks for coverage on SOG MT’s, as it helped inform me of what I need vs what I want.
Having the short saw and file on the Deluxe, I may be putting a clip on mine. If there's room, it's gonna happen. Maybe a nice Stonewashed clip from my Neighbors at Lynch NW.
These look much more appealing to me than a lot of Gerber multitools. The Gerber Suspension, Suspension NXT and Truss are decent. I'm a fan of butterfly opening multitool not sliding plier based multitools. I'm still loving my faithful Leatherman Super Tool 300 and newly acquired black oxide Surge. I found the manufacture date code on my Surge, inside the handle rails. Its just much more difficult to see, in my opinion. The black oxide coating does make it stand out. Its labeled 1119. So November 2019.
@@hvacbudget8600I love the fact I can put a pocket clip on the Surge! It holds well in my jeans and doesn't feel bulky. One thing about the Surge is the scissors are awesome, very nice to have. I'm very pleased to have it. I like both equally, its hard to choose. I don't carry the bit kit around. I probably should, I just use the multitools with the provided screw drivers. The flat bit seems to fit smaller Philips screws a little better. You're really asking me to split hairs with that question, haha! I do like the micro driver on the first generation Surge like the Wave but it was a $10 difference plus tax and shipping, at the time. $79 for the black oxide second generation Surge vs. $89 for stainless finish first generation Surge. I'm very happy with the price. Used prices are generally very reasonable but I feel I got a steal with that deal! Do you like the micro driver on the first generation Surge or the fixed small flat head on the second generation Surge?
@@richardsullivan1776 I like the Second Generation due to the replaceable cutters. I definitely would use the micro driver if I had it but the replaceable cutters is a great feature.
The short answer is I like other SOG's better. PowerPint, PowerAccess Assist are my favorite and the antique Pocket Power Plier. It's a good deal for casual use but I would pick something else up for daily hard use.
@@RockyMountainBlades Then it's a good enough tool. I actually think I still like the lighter Power Access a bit better. Both are fine tools however. The smooth plier action on the SOG tools will get addicting, LOL!
Got this recently to add to my Leatherman Surge. SOG fit and finish isn't as good, and their engineering is below the surge. The file on the Surge is better made with a diamond side, not so the SOG. The Surge has a very positive locking system, much like the lock back folding knives. The SOG's locking mechanism is much smaller and requires pulling up instead of pushing down. The Surge has replaceable cutting blades should you ding them trying to cut rebar. The SOG does not have replaceable cutting blades. The SOG does have a mini glasses screwdriver instead of the Surge just supplying one in their bit kit but no adapter to drive it. RUclips has suggestions to Jerry rig the glasses screwdriver in a very unsecured manner. Point goes to the SOG. The protractor compass markings are too rough for any precision work and are only good for very rough estimates. Might as well get a dedicated, purpose made compass/protractor. The knife blades on the Surfe is large and well made. The SOG knives are small and sort of cheap. Surge has scissors. The SOG doesn't. So I've decided to toss the SOG into my trucks glove box. I wear glasses, so if I need to screw down a loose hinge screw, the SOG can do that much better than the Surge. I usually keep a Benchmase folder in the ashtray to the SOG's rather unimpressive blade is not my sole blade. Thr SOG comes with two straps holding regular 1/4" driver bits instead of Leatherman's proprietary flat bits so it can use those plus any other bits I need. So as long as I don't try cutting rebar, the wire cutters should last. I also have a 30 year old SOG Paratool in the truck glove box. What a difference 30 years make in multi tool evolution. Compared to the Surge, the Paratool feels like a cheap toy. And those folding pliers are cheesy and poorly designed. The Surge stays at home in my nightstand but goes with me when I do road trips in my bug out bag along with a medium-sized Wenger Swiss army knife.
All You Need Now Is The Powergrab And I Think You'll Finish The Family....Unless You Go Looking For The Paratool...If So , Good Luck...I Love My SOG's...
Whoever is naming SOG multitools needs to be slapped. You can’t even make a decision because they’re all similar! You want to see a video on the power access? You’ll probably click on a power assist video and decide “oh, not what in looking for, I’ll go with leatherman”. It doesn’t need to be so complicated!
Yeah… that’s one thing I will miss from the Powerpint, but it was pretty bad to begin with. There are some splendid EDC scissors out there-MayRay or Fiskers or Klein… Then again, replacing one of the tools on the Deluxe with another MT’s scissors is probably possible.
I love Leatherman but I have to admit over the last 6 months I’ve been carrying my SOG power assist and power pint instead of my Surge or Super Tool 300. SOG has come a long way in quality and durability. I would buy a cheap Amazon knockoff before a Gerber they are are not worth the money and the durability is terrible.
I just got the power access deluxe and it was the tool set & the excellent Bit kit that sold me on this Multitool.
@@gk.spinoza Nice!

It's always fun to have one more multi tool, lol!
You ever go for the SOG? I’m a Leatherman man myself but I do miss having a SOG on standby. The compound pliers are sweeeeeet.

My gerber mp600 bladeless has been invaluable
Got one of these incoming. Quite hyped to replace my SOG Paratool with it. Though I love that tool too
Excellent! I really like SOG's products!
5:18 what is SOG’s answer to the Surge? You don’t say.
It is the SOG Power Access Assist. A large tool with outside opening implements. That's the black tool shown in my right hand at that timestamp.
@@hvacbudget8600 Awesome thank you. Tbf you did say later on I jumped the gun! Sog’s product range is confusing to me!!

Another con is how wide the handle has to open to get the jaw to open, it's ridiculousness.
