KYW, the CBS affiliate in Philadelphia PA, is owned and operated by CBS Corporation. KYW is the sister station to CW affiliate WPSG in Philadelphia and CBS affiliate KDKA and CW affiliate WPCW in Pittsburgh.
My favorite slogans of Channel 3 Eyewitness News are: "The sights and sounds of today, the Delaware Valley's most complete television news service" and "Live from Independence Mall and throughout the Delaware Valley".
0:48 Behind Vince and Jack is Bill Kuster and Al Meltzer. Bill and Vince later went to Gannett stations KUSA in Denver and KPNX in Phoenix, respectively. Al went to WCAU.
Al Meltzer did not go directly to WCAU from KYW. In 1977-78, Al did a short stint as sports director for NBC affiliate WMAQ in Chicago. He didn't fit in there and didn't like being so far away from home in the Delaware Valley, so he departed to join WCAU in Philadelphia in 1978.
When Westinghouse acquired CBS in the early 90's, it was forced to divest one of its stations in Philadelphia to satisfy FCC ownership requirements. KYW was Westinghouse-owned and WCAU, CBS-owned. Westinghouse decided to have its network on its station, so CBS moved to KYW/3 and NBC moved to new owners at WCAU/10. KYW actually started in radio in Chicago in the 1920's and moved to Philly a few years later.
The more interesting story is how KYW came to be the only station east of the Miss River with call letters that start with a "K." All other stations in the region start with a "W."
Rest-In-Piece Steve Bell, A Co-Anchor Of KYW-TV From 1986-1992, Previously Worked For ABC World News Tonight As Anchor. Before That, Worked At WOWT Channel 6 Omaha, NE Back In The 1960’s Before Joining ABC (December 9th, 1935-January 25th, 2019).
Ukee Washington and Dawn Stensland have anchored the 5pm news from 1998 to 2003, Washington has done the morning and noon broadcasts for over a year when he left the 5 o'clock news but he was with Stensland because of his anchoring of the newscast, Stensland is now at WXTF.
Newsday etc flopped eventually CBS 3 rebranded back to eyewitness news wjxt needs to smarten up give some newscasts to cw 17 so there isn't too much news on news 4jax
Shawn O'Domski for those who don't know group w ran it as an nbc station the cbs ono was wcau the only network station at the time then abc merged w capital cities before Disney partnered w them
Jean Vargas Alvarez gannett and cbs were supposed to merge group w out bid them kcnc 4 is now cbs paramount Viacom 10 and 3 almost became a news dupoly interesting insight jean
I want to be able to watch news casts anywhere in the country my stupid former branch dropped kyw when who became cbs for Lancaster York and Lebanon when wlyh became upn is you tube going to carry live newscasts not accessible online eg cbs ono newscast not accessible wkmg Orlando an afilliate w post newsweek is avaianle?
The deal w wcau now NBC 10 would've cancelled the 57 10pm duopoly per FCC rules Bruce Hamilton used to work for wjxx abc25 they were supposed to become Jacksonville's ABC onto but Garnett bought 25 from albritton and became the new home of first coast news if you ask me 12 should've used 25s studio space for the newscasts on TLv 12
Tom Williams And then you have my market, where 4 stations are owned by one owner, with the ABC and Fox outlets owned by the same company, effectively creating a duopoly. But this is only because in certain sweeps periods the Fox outlet and the CW outlet rotate between 4th and 5th, while the MyTV affiliate sometimes rotates between 5th and 6th.
American journalist Larry Kane spent 36 years in Philadelphia with all three stations are WCAU, WPVI and KYW.

You're right. That is what stinks. Now these hot gorgeous young girls who are anchor people.
Worse, CBS sold WFRV and WJMN in 2007. That move separated both stations from WBBM, WWJ, KYW, WPSG, KDKA, WJZ and WPCW.
The more interesting story is how KYW came to be the only station east of the Miss River with call letters that start with a "K." All other stations in the region start with a "W."
@@DCGuy1997 Um, KDKA, Pittsburgh, 1920. KQV, Pittsburgh, 1921.
@@rjmcallister1888 Sorry. I thought it was just KYW.
Voiceovers heard: Danny Dark, Alan Blevins and Hal Douglas.
KYW was a NBC affiliate back in the day and it was now a CBS O&O station, and WCAU switch CBS to NBC, and WPVI was still a ABC affiliate.
And WTXF 29 was still a FOX affiliate.
This is nostalgic
KYW, the CBS affiliate in Philadelphia, PA, is owned and operated by CBS Corporation. KYW is the sister station to CW affiliate WPSG in Philadelphia.
Do I hear a reference to the chords of the 1980s WCAU (and WBBM Chicago) "Live at Five" bumper at around the 10:10 mark?
You're not the only one.

very briefly seen at 8:51 are Dave Frankel and Siani Lee. Dave is now a lawyer; Siani is sadly gone.
I was shocked about Sianis death. I heard she was killed in a car wreck. Rip Siani.
There was a blooper at about the 8:36 mark. I got a feeling the producer (then) had a face palm moment.
KYW-TV Channel 3 Philadelphia/New Jeresy/Delaware An CBS Affiliate and O&O Formerly owned by Group W and an NBC affiliate back then.

Back in the '80s and '90s, KYW's ratings for its newscasts were not too impressive!
+Joseph Pratt Yeah. Who can compete with WPVI-TV's one-and-only ABC6 Action News?
Once they introduced the EYEWITNESS NEWS format, their ratings where impressive
And then, when WPVI introduced ACTION NEWS, It beated KYW out.
